I finally feel like someone gave me a real difference. I always felt like we called modern musicals theatre to keep them from carrying the powerful 'Opera' title. I still kinda feel that way, because if the styles of music, used in Hamilton, for example, would have been fought, but would have been considered opera in that classical period.
