As for lightfastness, i did a quick 2 week test of the Topicals, and all but 3 colors faded if I remember correctly, so definitely best for sketching or practice. I still really enjoy these, they're not as chalky as the other student grade/cheap watercolors and the tin is great.
I have gotten the Classics and the Tropicals after seeing your review of the Tropicals. THese are my first watercolors and seem to be a great place to start...really enjoying them. thanks for your original review...hope you do the other two sets...VERY curious about them. THese pigments are so strong and clean colors...
I have reviewed Decadent Pies. th-cam.com/video/mm7SB-6GdSM/w-d-xo.html As for Shimmering Lights and Pastel Dreams sets, I'm not likely to review them unless I run out of things to feature on my channel. lol
Thanks. I just bought this set and as usual yours was the best review online. I love how you demo the sets by doing a painting, not just swatches. Very informative.
thank you for showing how to save the day when woopsies happen. I really enjoyed this video. I don't think I've seen anyone show how to save the day in any of the tutorials I've watched, so thank you very much. be well. bye now
Nice sketch! Bob Ross would be happy with the way you handled the oops moment, I think haha Where does this brand scores, in general, in your ranking of brands from liked to disliked?
I was searching for a review on this water color set because I planned to get one when I came to your review of it. I have to say that I like the colors, your review on them and it's made me decided to buy one. So, thanks!
Thank you so much for your detailed reviews and demonstrations! I was confused between the classic and tropicals. I liked the tropical colors however i was afraid since there was no black. However this review convinced me that Tropical is the right choicd 😀
I just got the tropical set because I wanted the convenience of being able to mix skin tone easily with the yellow ochre and the brown. The other set I was looking at was the pastel dreams one but I decide to go with tropical because of the skin tone thing, and I just considered watering down the colors to create a pastel shade and that would mean my paints would last longer as well
The painting looks fantastic. I like the tropicals palette better as well however I have to say the overall colors on the painting with the classic set looks really beautiful, you did a great job with it.
Yes, now I agree with you... as I don't want white, black or gray I think the Tropicals would be better for me... although i do like the red in the Classics.
I agree about the white. Went art shopping yesterday and all the travel set had white. I'd love to see a Parka set!!!! Perhaps a video (if you haven't done it already) on a 12 colour travel wishlist.
The colours I'm currently using are in this video. th-cam.com/video/h_xdhZ-bR0k/w-d-xo.html I'll probably be swapping out Phthalo Green as I can mix that colour with Sap Green + Phthalo Blue.
Great review! I think I would prefer the tropicals watercolor set out of the other sets, thanks Teoh your videos are always so well made and so thorough, a great pleasure to watch ☺️👍🏽
Given the way these sets are made, I feel like I would have to buy at least the Classics and Tropicals set and re-arrange the colors so I would have the 12 colors I would need on my own.
Thank you for an in depth review of these Teoh! The colours are all lovely, wish they had a jumbo set haha! I like your point on black, brown and black in the pans, not very useful, never thought of that before!
Teoh, thank you for showing this... It doesn't look like there are duplicates, and it might be good to have more than one set... I do like the Classics now that I see that one.
Thank you for this review! I'm new to watercolor and I've been a bit overwhelmed trying to navigate all of the supply options out there. I always find your reviews comprehensive and helpful, particularly in this case since I'd seen the Prima Marketing sets on Amazon and had been wondering about them. Also, I know I personally would very much enjoy a review of the pastels set particularly. Just a thought. :)
+Joy Travis The Decadent Pies set has many pastel colours. So far I have only reviewed Tropicals, Classic and Decadent Pies. Check out the review at th-cam.com/video/mm7SB-6GdSM/w-d-xo.html
no joke I let out a squeak when the brush fell on the little girl's face haha thanks for the reviews on prima watercolors. the tropicals set looks so tempting whenever I see it, but now I can definitely stand to not have it, except maybe when I need a small tin.
@@teohyc Really? That is surprising, when I bought mine they all came with numbers and names inside the box. You must have gotten them at the total beginning and maybe they added them later. Thanks
Would you recommend this or the Gansai Tambi Watercolor? I’m afraid that tha Gandai Tambi might ne too pigmented for me. And I can’t decide between both. Thanks for the help!
This is good because it comes with the portable box. Being very pigmented is a good trait as you can always dilute. But washed out colours can't be made more pigmented.
Hello, how are you? I am a beginner in watercolor. I am in doubt which one to buy. Press marketing, Van Gogh, Winsor and Newton - Cotma or Paul Rubens. Which is the best watercolor?
@@juanlisboa9436 Quality is quite similar. Anyway, you may want to check out White Nights 12 pan set on eBay (with free shipping). See if the price is close to the sets you're looking for. White Nights is very high quality.
Prima has released the pigment information and are considered archival. I do not work for the company, but I found the information from a blogger named Spin Doctor. www.the-spin-doctor.co.uk/2018/04/prima-watercolor-confections-pigment.html
Watching this while waiting on election results. I like that you did a test painting and walked us through colour mixing. I always like seeing your painting process. Do you ever use varying sizes of brushes on a painting?
I usually use size 6 for A5 and A4 sketches. Sometimes I use a larger brush to cover larger areas, or a smaller one for details. But when sketching outdoors, I usually just bring one brush.
Hi Teoh, Don't know how I missed this one. Nice review and you covered a vast amount of issues including fixing our mistakes. That is a subject few want to deal with. You gave us great tips for sure. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Kathy B. (fairylady0227)

I have the Tropical set per your recommendation. I love it -- great for a grab-n-go palette.

great video ! i was wondering if u could do an alpha watercolour review...
+callmeJOE ! If I do, the review won't be out soon as I take a lot of time to review watercolour
Oh thanks for replying !take your time , i would love to see your review .
What would you choose:
Windsor newton or prima marketing?
If it is Winsor Newton Cotman, I prefer Prima Marketing.
Teoh Yi Chie thank you for replying
Thank you for the review although I do wish you had put the names of the colours on the swatches. It would be more useful.
There were no names (and pigment info) for these colours when I reviewed them.

Arqum Shami Thank you! I've been looking forever for this
Do they have refill pans???
I don't think so. You can buy tube paint from other brands to refill. It's more economical
3:00 I love that one; it's beautiful.
Thanks :-)
For white gel pens.... which one would you recommend?
UnderWar Erica I use the Uniball Signo white gel pen and i love it! It’s super opaque and goes on smoothly.
do you prefer prima tropicals over Windsor and newton cotman?
+Lydis Not sure. I think they are both the same in terms of quality.
thank you for the video!! do you have the link to the seller that you bought them from or do you know any stores that sell these in sg?
Maybe check Amazon.sg

Do these boxes have something that helps manage holding them??
+Rick Croucher There is a thumb ring beneath the box.
Is this set chalky?
It's not that chalky. Good for beginners.

Until you said something about water on the ground I thought it was two kids crying at a weird statue.
Lol same I thought it was some sort of grave marker
try black and yellow to get a dark green
