Wow, this brings back memories! I still remember working in iStudio Terminal 2 and the team actually came in to do the filming in the morning, and all the staff had to “hide” in the storeroom while that was happening. The whole filming process was quick, real professionals at what they do. This is totally off-topic but we were all wondering why they’d wanted to showcase selling iPhone 7 (which was released in late-2016, while they were filming in 2017).

For those who do not know, it is a crime to enter the airport’s transit area with no intention to depart on said plane on boarding pass in most countries
This is to prevent (for example) a terrorist putting a bomb in his check-in luggage and then not getting onto the plane, because he obviously does not want to blow himself up as well
As others have pointed out, this is also to prevent people from shopping in the duty free area and then just carrying out their items like that back out
Really??? Can you cite a regulation of any country (other than that stupid little dot!) where merely not boarding your flight at an airport will put you in jail?!
Last time I checked, the only worst thing that can be done to you is to ejected out when overstaying - and even then, it's a super-duper rare occurrence...
And to prevent terrorist??? Well, that airport rule would be a big favor to that guy! Leave a bomb in the airport, just board the plane, then when the terrorist get far enough from the destination airport then the bomb will explode!

Not letting those people not travelling into the transit area is also because of safe distancing measures. We dont want people from overseas to infect the locals here.

I am sure 99% of any company wouldn't be totally honest with their tax filling especially those servicing line, constructions and esepcially those recycling company. Everything is so under the table, its hard to investigate them. IRAS should put more effort in these bogus companies instead of those small shops where people are struggle with life paying high rental.
Usually it is the small companies that do all these stuff have revenue of below 10 million and do not need to have audited financial statements or detailed tax returns, so it is easier. Construction and recycling companies have audited financial statements so it is harder for them to do these things.

Changi Airport are pretty strict in their rules. Got friend working retail at airport, they got quota for purchasing any items in order not to allow any staffs to purchase and resell it than buying price.

What they were doing was buying international airplane ticket no intention to depart Singapore or country. Then purchase the Duty free item such as Alcohol such as Johnnie Walker or Iphones etc . Then re enter the Singapore .
Well, a simple surcharge for those duty-free items going out of the airport carried by those non-boarding passengers is in order. Pay duties + 10% surcharge (maybe even +20% can lah...)
@@serectas the problem is this is for stopping resellers. People who want to just have a new phone are unfairly punished. A returning passenger should have nothing to pay for. Even these small phone shops need as many cut corners as needed to survive
@SantomPh Attempt to resell an item then after paying additional 50% customs duties and a surcharge (and that does not include the price of air fare which is unused)! Unless airport shops often sell things at 80%+ discount reselling airport merch is just bad business!

That was not bad luck. It was a stupid thing to do. They could've just bought a two way ticket, fly there & come back on the same day. Coming back on the same day is not a problem but not flying out when you have a boarding pass is illegal.

It will be relayed back to the authorities. Airports are quite efficient this days. :)
Then airport regulation must be applied! Since the crew loitered in the airport it can be said they just not want to travel out!

the flight will be delayed and the passengers will have to wait in the transit area. If the delay is more than 24 hours (or a certain time period) then the passengers may be asked to exit the terminal and return for the next flight out. Of course once this happens passengers might be just asked to go home, but no one really will check on purchases in duty free given how many people are in the airport. One will guess that these people are lucky.

Or they could've just mentioned there's an emergency to the airport management and they have to cancel their flight plans and it's normal to just buy a one-way ticket only what if you're not sure when you plan to return.

I knew of this late, bought a can of spray paint for work purpose, was charged lower but when asked for receipt, the shop owner say need to pay more for receipt. Should have reported them to IRAS.

They should have fly to at lease Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok or Hong Kong stay at lease night fly back Singapore next day or one week. Why bother buying ticket no intention to fly. You will not get the full refund of your fair .
That non-refundable fare must be more than enough of a deterrent. No need for jailing anyone if at all merely for non-boarding... (as for buying duty-free items pay 'em up with duties+surcharge... if can't present cash or debit then garnishment will do!)
