16:14 - massed bands of the Royal Artillery (two bands here) - oldest bands in the British Army. "During the pandemic" they just disappeared forever, not because of COVID of course, but reorganised out of existence under cover of us having other things on our minds. Now we only have the (very good quality) "British Army Bands". There is always change and it is no good living in the past, but there's still some inevitable sadness here...
This 1989 version of the Edinburgh MILITARY Tattoo should serve as a shining example of how professional this Tattoo used to be carried out, in comparison with its current amateurish effort by who - the Scottish Tourist Board?!!!
Thanks for sharing. Great quality for an old tape, awesome commentary. Maple Leaf flying above Robert the Bruce is pretty stunning. i saw this one live, but no specific memories aroused by the video. If you have a nine year old son, don't take him to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade the afternoon before his first Tattoo.
In my opinion Tom Fleming was one of the finest commentators on public events, Eric Robson was good also, but since then its been downhill as far as the BBC is concerned.
@@nathanjoerndt8804 In some contexts of an unexpected end to a piece, a movement of the mace is used to signal a double drum-beat which then means one more bar and everybody stops. Otherwise, the mace signals that the "end is nigh", as it were... It wraps it up nicely.
