I just realized I was in this Windsor a year after this happened. I flew down to Denver to spend a week with my ex. Her mom lives in Windsor. I had no idea it was this bad. Windsor is a beautiful area.

I was living in Loveland and still in Loveland I remember that day when I woke up it was pretty dark and thought to myself this is really odd when I looked outside I saw the clouds moving really fast towards Windsor and the wind was packing up we lived by big trees and the sound of them was very frightening that summer a lot of storms happened and it was a very frightening time I can remember my brother telling us to get into the basement bathroom it almost seems like it was a dream

2008 was a crazy year for tornadoes. A lot of places that don’t usually get significant tornadoes were hit. There was this one, the one in my area, downtown Atlanta, the one with the Boy Scouts, and more.

I drove thru Windsor about 45 minutes after the tornado. My boss lost his house. As bad as it was it was minor compared to driving around Plainfield, Il. only days after the 1990 tornado! I hope I never see another tornado or it's aftermath again. I live in the mountains now!
I remember this day well. I lived in Longmont, CO about 30 miles away. I was further south at work, but I lived on the 3rd floor, so I didn't know what I might be coming home to. The storm was bad in Lafayette where I was working. I remember going home and watching the 9news report. My place was fine.
I was in Loveland CO when it hit. Worked at a gym and the childcare workers took the kids into the locker-room. The news was warning of tornados left and right, even remember a report of circling clouds over Estes Park. I live in Windsor now since 2012. Population has more than doubled since this came out. Ugg. Yesterday there was a tornado south-east of us and I told my client about this one that hit Windsor, he had no idea. Neighbors say it went just by our houses to the north taking out a corn field that’s adjacent to the neighborhood.
I truly believe that if this tornado hadn't just barely missed Greeley, that this would have been classed an EF-4 or 5. That's how insane and dangerous this tornado was.
This shit was so crazy, literally watched it miss my house by a mile from my grandparents. So glad Windsor was ale to come back even stronger from this, its a fast growing town now.
I have seen many tornado videos and had been through the Super Outbreak of 74. If I could actually talk to a tornado, I would ask it what do you tornados have against mobile home parks and schools. The tornado that was in my area in 74 hit 2 of the 11 elementary schools in my school district.

Oh I remember this day.. I lived in Fort Collins at the time and my school (I was in 5th grade) went into lockdown during these storms. I was shocked to hear our neighbor town, being Windsor, got hit bad and was just wondering, what if that was me? ESPECIALLY if the tornado stayed on the ground long enough to reach FC. Yikes.
It did stay on the ground long enough to reach FoCo.... IF it was traveling due West from Windsor. But it was traveling Northwest instead, barely missing FoCo, and hitting Wellington (our Northern neighbor town)... before it finally lifted, retracting back into the clouds. This tornado, and the major floods in 2013, are the craziest storm destruction I've ever witnessed firsthand. Were you also around for those extreme 2013 floods in NoCo?
I remember this so vividly. I was at home in west Greeley, and it was the most terrifying moment. My mom and I were getting ready to go to the grocery store when she noticed a dark ring in the sky. We turned on the tv and it went black. That’s when we grabbed our cat and our weather radio and went to our basement. It missed us by a mile.
I remember being in kindergarten at Olander Elementary School for Project Based Learning in Fort Collins, Colorado when this happened. I was five years old and our school took precautions since it was heading our way. I remember that really well when it all started going down at the school.
Fortunately, the tornado never hit our school. The tornado stayed far away from us and our town. The threat of the tornado just had us take precautions by preparing for it to hit us. The tornado did unfortunately hit another town. Fort Collins is North West of Windsor.
I was 6 when this happened and I remember hearing about it on the news. I basically shit my pants saying “is my town next?” We had just moved to Fort Collins and I was and still is terrified of tornadoes
Well yeah, OBVIOUSLY anyone in a tent/camper isn't deliberately choosing to shelter there...over any readily available, obviously much sturdier, permanent structures on foundations. The poor guy who died in his RV, his home, had close to zero warning...as his location was at the very start of the tornados path of destruction, literally right by where it first touched down. His time to act was short, and his options limited, so he simply tried his best to survive where he was... exactly what we'd all do in that situation. Unfortunately he wasn't one of the lucky ones, as all the other campers at his location survived. In hindsight there are always dozens of "what ifs", or "shoulda, coulda's"... minutely different decisions, that could've resulted drastically different outcomes. Some sad sad stuff to think about...which I'm sure his loved ones have suffered from ever since. Which is why I personally don't think it's appropriate to be dispensing any of Captain Obvious' patented, worthless, and always unsolicited, advice...but that's just my opinion. And please don't misinterpret my intentions here. I'm honestly not trying to be mean, or an asshole, or harsh when I say all of this. I guess, I'm simply trying to to help you possibly see your comment from a different angle...and maybe even recognize how silly, unnecessary, and insensitive it could be perceived as. To give it some perspective, this comment would be equivalent to a person commenting on a video about someone perishing in a house fire..."If you're in a burning house, get outside!! A house that's on fire isn't a safe place to be!!" 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
This occurred during the beginning of the May 22nd - 27th, 2008 Tornado Outbreak, and was overshadowed by the Parkersburg, Iowa EF5 Tornado on May 25th, 2008.
I work at daycare. Single ground floor. I couldn’t imagine trying to get the babies into the emergency cribs and trying to find a safe place. We’ve done it only for fire drills but we go outside for that. You can’t do that in a tornado. And now I’m thinking about the safest places in my daycare to shelter kiddos.
I was a newborn, unaffected but shook that I lived through that. Not a really sad story but my mom was telling me how she was calling her work, aka king soopers, which was still open with people working inside. She told them to shut down but went to get her last friend she had to “save”. He was the only one in the State Farm and asked what was wrong, my mom said “there’s a damn tornado you’re coming with me”. We drove back to Greeley and stayed inside with her family. We were fine but it was really weird. After the storm we realized that it wasn’t ur average tornado in Colorado. We knew by the news. Anyways that’s basically my moms story not mine but yeah, that’s all :).
I live in Lakewood, Co. I remember seeing this storm come over the Mountains and as I was watching it the top of the clouds just kept getting bigger and bigger I told my co worker something bads gonna happen look at those clouds getting bigger. 45 minutes later it hit Windsor.
Yes most of Colorado doesn't have shelters. We don't get tornados except the far east side. That's why when it does happen here it's usually bad.. but it only happens every like 20-30 years
I'm not understanding the replies here. I've lived in Colorado my entire life, and far more than 25% of the eastern plains houses have places to adequately shelter during a tornado....basements, crawl spaces, cellars, walk-in closets, or windowless bathrooms are all suitable.
In other news...I totally thought the same thing when I heard that guy say that. "I have no idea what to dooOoOoOooo!" First and foremost...maybe stop filming the tornado while standing in front of the biggest piece of glass in your entire house? 🤦🏻🤷🏻
I don’t think you ever forget a tornado. Even if you were a child when it affected your life. Fifty some years ago, a tornado hit the back of my grandparents house. They got my great grandmother and themselves to the root cellar a second before it hit. They were very lucky. The way the old house was built, the kitchen was an addition and it was gone. They were fine! That’s all that matters. I was seven or eight at the time. I have never forgotten going to help salvage what we could from the mess. They all moved in with us as we had the most empty bedrooms while the kitchen was rebuilt. This happened in Southern Minnesota in the late 50’s.
I was barely coming back to Houston, with my sister from Telluride CO visiting my dad. And I saw on the news that a tornado passed through Colorado and didn't mention what part. I got worried for a minute and realize that it was nowhere near his area can't be too careful though.
I was at work in Loveland when this hit. My boss and I had both lived in Oklahoma and looked at each other and both agreed that it looked like a tornado was about to develop. I took my purse and bottle of water and went to the inside of the building and sat on the steel steps (no windows!) while everyone else sat in their office and looked out the window (BIG windows) and continued to work. We were lucky that it did not come in our direction. I thought when I moved there from Oklahoma that I was free of tornadoes!
I almost drove right into that tornado that day. Didn’t even know there was one it just looked really cloudy and the hail was really coming down heavy. I was lucky
8:47. You were in the rear flank down draft. It can be almost as strong as the tornado itself. It’s rolled semis, torn roofs off houses, collapse small buildings, turned cars over. You guys got lucky. No tornado footage is worth your life!! Next time just video it over your shoulder as you run away 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
I know one thing. Since around 1980,the storms were getting heavier. Tornado alley has moved and it’s toward the east and west. We have them year round.
That poor little boy who's parent was being interviewed afterwards he just went through hell and then gets a camera in his face. "just roll my window up" he just wants to go home
Yea in eastern weld county. They are usually very small, hardly do any damage and they almost never go this far west of weld county. Windsor is like the west most town in weld so it was a surprise.
I survived a tornado that almost hit my grandparents farm and took a couple trees off in the distance. In Stratton Colorado it was gonna hit but it missed the farm it technically almost hit us but my family was lucky and my dad was chased by a multi vortext tornado near the Denver airport he survived and made it to my grandparents farm and the system that hit Denver was right behind him this took place in 8th grade in the summer
i was in windmill when the tornado hit. i don’t remember being scared but it was very vivid. i’m 16 now and it’s crazy to think about how lucky my friends and i were
This storm would also go on to produce an EF-2 Tornado that hit Laramie Wyoming. I have a close friend who was from Windsor Colorado and she was going to College at the University of Wyoming in Laramie for the Summer session that had just kicked off that week. So her family went through the Windsor Tornado and She went through the Laramie Tornado. Thankfully niether her family home was damaged or her apartment in Laramie. Just crazy!
Luck perhaps because that Tornado as huge as it was just sideswiped that day care center, literally just a few feet to the right and we'd be seeing this as an epic tragedy. Thankfully the powers that be were looking out for them that day, not to mention the teachers doing the best they could with what they had. Well done to the staff making sure all those kids were safe.

me: get into shelter!!!
This is Colorado, people don't have shelters in 75% of the state.
"I have no idea what to dooOoOoOooo!"
First and foremost...maybe stop filming the tornado while standing in front of the biggest piece of glass in your entire house? 🤦🏻🤷🏻
Those daycare teachers are heroes in my book.
It's hard to believe this happened not far away from my (current 2024) college
Damn those daycare staph are awesome
Just three days later, the second EF5 tornado recorded touched down in Pakensburg, IA.
Who is watching this during a server thunderstorm?
James Short *severe
Krysta Green I have a Question for you have you ever seen a tornado 🌪 in person I’m just wondering ok 👌
Do extreme cold warnings count? It’s -47 celcius
I was 3 when the tornado hit windsor, my mom was scared for me, i don't remember it much.
As a coloradoan, I can say that this is 100% accurate.
I almost drove right into that tornado that day. Didn’t even know there was one it just looked really cloudy and the hail was really coming down heavy. I was lucky
This is my state
The Windmill sure lived up to its name. So terrifying.
I know one thing. Since around 1980,the storms were getting heavier. Tornado alley has moved and it’s toward the east and west. We have them year round.
Poor people
That poor little boy who's parent was being interviewed afterwards he just went through hell and then gets a camera in his face. "just roll my window up" he just wants to go home
COLORADOS FIRST TORNADO RATED EF-3+ WITH BASEBALL SIZED HAIL
I love ❤️ tornadoes 🌪 videos I’m am very sorry 😐 for your loss of your friend May your friend Rest In Peace 😢.
The hail looks like mini missiles hitting the ground and water

Welcome to Colorful Colorado
“Tornadoes occasionally form over these flatlands”
I thought Weld county had like some of the most tornadoes tho
Yea in eastern weld county. They are usually very small, hardly do any damage and they almost never go this far west of weld county. Windsor is like the west most town in weld so it was a surprise.
More tornadoes per year than any county in the US
Exactly 15 Years ago Now
I survived a tornado that almost hit my grandparents farm and took a couple trees off in the distance.
Im just glad that everyone was ok
i was in windmill when the tornado hit. i don’t remember being scared but it was very vivid. i’m 16 now and it’s crazy to think about how lucky my friends and i were
This storm would also go on to produce an EF-2 Tornado that hit Laramie Wyoming. Just crazy!
Thaink god those kids are ok 👌 From a massive tornado 🌪
Luck perhaps because that Tornado as huge as it was just sideswiped that day care center, literally just a few feet to the right and we'd be seeing this as an epic tragedy. Thankfully the powers that be were looking out for them that day, not to mention the teachers doing the best they could with what they had. Well done to the staff making sure all those kids were safe.
I hope 🤞 nobody got hurt or killed by the 2008 Windsor tornado 🌪 I hope the kids are ok 👌 during the 2008 tornado in Windsor tornado
I hope her daughter is ok during the tornado 🌪
Growing up northeast of the path was crazy. My uncle was running a asphalt crew and sent one of his guys to pick up lunch in Windsor and he pulled over to help get the daycare to safety
Waited this storm out in a beer cooler at a gas station up by Greeley.. fun times I was sick af that day
I’m am very sorry 😐 for your loss of your friend during the tornado 🌪 warning ⚠️ may your your friend Rest In Peace 😢
Right, God was watching out for you. That's why he directed the tornado right over the daycare center. The stupidity of that comment is mind numbing.
I hope 🤞 her daughter is ok 👌 during the tornado 🌪.warning ⚠️. And I’m glad that
200 kids are ok during the tornado wArning ⚠️
I was 3 years old when it went through and imploded the windows in the car I was in. I'll never forget it
