I was a high school student back in 2010, and I spent most of my allowance watching 1D music videos and listening to their songs on TH-cam. During some of the darkest days in my life, their music transported me back to the wonderful, carefree moments of my high school years. It saved me countless times. They saved me countless times. They made me feel at home. I still can’t believe that Liam is gone, 🥺 and I will never get to hear One Direction’s songs with their more polished and mature voices.

In my opinion, not only is this 1D's greatest song, but it's one of the best songs of the 2010s as well. I can pinpoint exactly where I was in my life when this song came out; it had a profound effect on me back then, but the emotional weight of the song has increased tenfold since Liam's passing.
I thought I’d outgrown my boy band phase. I was already an adult by the time these guys had gotten together to make music together. I paid no mind to the massive amounts of 1D merch I stocked all night long at a big box store during a particularly rough patch that felt like it was sucking the soul out of me. This song played overhead one night, and caused me to break down crying in the middle of a toy aisle. I hadn’t had that kind of reaction to music in ages, and frantically scoured the internet to find it. When I did, I listened to it on repeat for days, and realized that I needed a change. I quit my job, and found a good therapist. I won’t say it saved my life, but I can say it helped break through the dam of numbness that had slowly taken over. I still listen to this song on rough days to remind me of how things can get better.
