    Something about this scene really got me, the way she says 'that stuff never goes away' and the look in her eyes. I feel like every girl can relate to this.

      I just watched this again last night and it sent me to read articles about it. In the New Yorker review, by Emily Nussbaum, she writes that it is directly a story from Lena's life. The review didn't say where she'd heard it, but it's the New Yorker which famously fact checks everything. So you sensed that for a reason. What a great episode, man, it still holds up.

    The key phrase is "I didn't mind". I've experienced that king of shit too, but it's very important to state firmly that such behavior is unacceptable. If we remain silent and allow such treatment, victims of harassment will cease to be considered as such at all.

    For a minute there, I thought she was talking to Rick Grimes.

      ilan6100 Matthew Rhys Evans...He really needs to be in more American shows, he's one of Britain's finest.

      Nada Barton I've seen him in Brothers and Sisters and in The Americans. But you gotta admit, he looks like Rick Grimes in this scene.

    She is the master of making things about herself

      This the way people are able to empathize: they find similarities to their own experiences in the experiences of others.

      Think! Use your brain! Master of making things about herself? Her writing touches those who have been through this, but OH, she’s a narcissist because she writes about something that may or may not be fictional. Lets judge her for it. This episode is nothing but brilliant because it’s all about “grey areas” she even shows contrition in falling into it again at the end.

      How is writing a character and acting that character making it about herself? This happens to women every day.

      Hannah’s incredibly selfish, and DOES make everything about her. If you watch Girls, then you know that right off the bat. That’s one of the major parts of her character. In this particular instance she’s not doing it in a selfish way. She’s trying to use a legitimate experience she had in an inappropriate situation where there was a power imbalance so he can understand what she’s trying to say. Using an experience you’ve had firsthand to convey a point is probably the best way to do that.

      Everyone has a story and everyone has a perspective based on their own experiences which shouldn't cancel anyone else's. I will say one thing that Hannah's character is poor at throughout the entire series and that is actually listening to the other person she's having a conversation with. She's literally just a stream of consciousness

    Hannah: talks about a grown woman going back to a hotel room with a grown man because she’s insecure
    Also Hannah: proceeds to tell story about her being a pre-teen with a creepy, touchy-feely teacher.

      @Skarbie Well but one is a perceived imbalance of power and the other is an actual imbalance of power

    • @LadyFalcon17
      @LadyFalcon17 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. A power imbalance. She was also ELEVEN at the time, and he sees that situation as a terrible experience, but when the woman is a grown woman, and there is still that power imbalance he claims there’s absolutely nothing wrong. She’s telling the story to try and show him the correlation between the two.
