Every welder needs these! Beginner welding projects

  • Found some scrap pieces of metal and figured I need to make me the 3rd hand to hold 2 pieces quick while tac welding them together. The second one is a Mig torch holder where I can hang the torch while not in use. I just recently bought a MIG welder and since I haven't any experience with welding I need to practice on things that are easy to make but also useful in the future.
    Big thanks to all my patrons especially Sithis Michaelis!

    Great video! I love how you made one tool and then used that to make another tool. I also like how you made, then fixed a mistake. Pretty cool.

    A 'third arm' is very useful. That MIG-handle stand w/magnet is brilliant! 😁👍

    This is an amazing idea for work holding. I also really appreciate the music choice, I get so tired of heavy metal on every other welding video.

    I know this is a 6 year old vid & you likely aren't seeing comments anymore. But just need to say using that old drill chuck as a weight is brilliant. I have multiple lengths, bends and end types and NOW I can do it with one base. Just chuck in the end I want or need at that moment. THANKS.

    I appreciate the inclusion of the mistake when drilling and ending up with a hole off center, and how to correct the mistake using a piece of copper to back the hole and fill it in, smooth out, and try again. Center point drills meant for lathes work really well for getting that starting point going after the center has been punched.

    • @Ollaris
      @Ollaris  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +woozleboy Exactly! And the funny thing that I have probably 2 of them. But I haven't thought to use them.... Thank you!

    Why would anyone troll this? It is hands down a great thing and considering how many older drill motors that used to be powered by NiCd or NiMH battery packs that nobody is upgrading, I bet there are plenty of nice used 3/8 and 1/2" chucks. Of course the trick is gettting them off the shaft.. But hey that there is a video right there Ye haw! .

    For the mig holder I always just welded a piece of pipe or tube stock to the side of the table and stuck the tip in there and they double as points to clamp your ground to also... or just throw it on the table where it of course triggers itself off the corner or whatever piece of stock I threw it on. I like the use of the drill chuck to add weight to the third hand.

    Yes the old mig gun fall off the bench routine, now I'll make me a gun holder, maybe a little different so's not to infringe on any copyrights laws. Think that small part holder be better if had a small V notch on the end. Nice video.

      +Bob Bartos I'm not a real welder and probably won't be. I'm just having fun making stuff.

    Nice accessories for your first projects. Like I said before I’ve wanted to do a 3rd Hand build video for a while, just nothing unique enough to push me. This was a cool one. Great job on thinking outside the box with stuff you had in the box. 😉

      +ManCraftingTM haha! Thank you Chad! Since then I thought about to make some brass or copper tips to get a better grounding and prevent it from sparking.

      Perhaps A thick coating of brazing rod and then filing it to A proper profile would work. Or old soldering iron tips could be brazed on to the steel rod.
      Nice project! Greetings from central Minnesota U.S.A.!!
