Marty, wow, you've been busy! Great video, thanks

Can the Acorn board be used instead of the Allin1 board if the old CNC mill being upgraded has Servo Motor Drivers that work? Do encoders on the back of Servo Motors on CNC mills take the place of glass scales and read heads that are used on DRO's on manual mills? Are step motors used on CNC mills some times or only AC or DC Servo Motors? Which is better?
    Thank you,

If the mill has DC servos, Acorn can not control them unless the servo drives take step and direction. Otherwise perhaps All in One DC or Acorn with new AC servo drives and motors

Great build, I have a Denford starturn 8 which uses the same turret. It runs on DOS and has lost connection to the software, so am considering anl retrofit. How much do you estimate it costs in parts, and how many hours would you think it takes? Thanks

Go read up on the Centroid forum. Look at the Emco PC5 build I provided a list of parts and estimate for that build. It will give you an idea.

    Hi Marty,
I just got a Orac Lathe, I want to make a retrofit using the Acorn, do you have any guide/Advice? The lathe is having all the original electronics from the 80's

Just follow my build, use Center Acorn, closed loop steppers, 3phase spindle motor and VFD as I demonstrated. PLC for Denfords turret is done.

Did you write the PLC program or did Centroid? If Centroid wrote it, how much did it cost?
I take it those holes in the turret, are for internal tools or shanked tooling.
I think it's great that a company like Centroid developed an affordable "real" control like Acorn, I have been waiting a long time for something like this.
Using various mill & router controls that say they work for a lathe, just doesn't cut it.

Centroid wrote it and it is available on the Centroid CNC User Forum. the holes in the turret are for drilling/boring tools

Good morning, where can you buy such a tool changing heads

    • @martyscncgarage5275
      @martyscncgarage5275  3 ปีที่แล้ว

They were optional equipment on Denford lathes. Made by the manufacturer. Watch eBay?

Is it possible to connect such heads with a stepper motor to Centroid

Go check out the forum and download the ATC files from the Acorn knowledge base forum. Schematics included. centroidcncforum.com/viewforum.php?f=63

I asked if a steppick can control such a head because I can't find anything like that on the forum

    • @martyscncgarage5275

It depends on how the turret was originally controlled. All you have to do is post pictures and describe how it works. Then we can help with suggestions.
