I agree with your review and my self use some Veritas tools.. Some I do not like because they try to revolutionize too much resulting in fiddly connections and adjustments, for example the mk2 fiddly too many adjustments and side clamp honing guide.. makes my 750 chisels an lie Nelson chisels crooked and has 2 different jaws when lie Nelson showed one is clearly all that’s needed when done right. And shimming an iron shouldn’t be done especially at that price point.. again I use veritas custom plane..

I totally agree with you and I am afraid I'm not interested in the modern tool manufacturers. I have tried most of them and find that they offer very little as far as improvement is concerned.
Yes they tend to work straight out of the box but frankly I have had my Stanley and Record planes and spokeshaves for more than 50 years and I have fettled them so that they work as well or better than anything on the market today. I will say however that I have fitted thicker irons to most of them which has improved them slightly. As far as spokeshaves are concerned, they are such a simple tool that the important parts are a sharp blade and a well finished sole. I have many spokeshaves and the biggest improvement I made many years ago was to lap the soles and bring them to a high polish which reduces the friction and makes for a very smooth cut. Many people find spokeshaves difficult to sharpen but I made a wooden handle which increases the length making it easy to hold and sharpen. Looked after properly Stanley and Record tools from the early 1900s will last for several generations so I prefer to spend my money on wood not pretty things which cost the earth but are no better. Good video !!!

@@davidjennings9253 Thanks for watching and comment. Yes there is no substitute for experience and fiddling with tools and making them work to suit your needs. 👍

Hi thanks for watching l bought it from Bills Tool Store on eBay £44.95 free postage I don’t know if it’s a clone because I don’t have a Lie Nielsen too compare it with it might be a completely different size and just looks similar but it works well and for the price is a bargain 👍
