We have a action packed episode for you today. The fields on our farm are improving every year and the grass harvest of 2024 has proven to be our best ever!
In this episode our neighbour Joaquim arrives with his vintage Ford Tractors to cut, sweep, and bale the hay, so that his sheep have food to eat during the hot Summer months. Its a win win for both Joaquim, his sheep, and us, and I really enjoy watching his tractors in action on our fields.
I recently bought a weber kettle BBQ and I have been making a lot of roast chickens, spatchcock chickens, and steaks inside of it. Its a whole different way of barbequing than I am used to, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.
I film how I roast chicken in this BBQ and I also share one of my moms recipes from back in South Africa.

Hi Ken. Yours is the only vlog, or whatever it's called, that I follow faithfully, and I've tried several. You take us with you, as if we're going for a walk together, and you do the everyday, but with such enthusiasm, like loving the grass, then loving seeing it turned into fodder for J's sheep. Great episode with the bailing and Olympic grade tractor work; garden looking super, dogs, cat and hens ditto; and delicious, if incinerated chicken, with Gina's salads - and Gina with her wonderful tan. Thanks Michele, the salad dressing is amazing! My spatchcock chicken tasted way better than it looked, burned the ends of the drumsticks, but the rest was perfection. 😁👍
Great harvest! You could always sweep up the patch of leftover hay from the broken bale and either compost it or use it to mulch your raised beds.

Why? Then I have to buy a tractor, and joaquim doesn't get free grass... and I can't film the harvest,because I'm holding a steering wheel... I think everything is better this way 😊👍

Yeah, yesterday was a washout. Didn’t even take the dog out for a walk last night it was that bad. Dog walked out of back door and walked straight back in lol.

Yeah, I took the dog out at midnight last night and it actually felt warmer then than it did during the day because the cold wind had died down. Had that a few times in the last few months.

What type of soil do you have? How do you better your soil?
Hi Carine, Joaquim sows different types of clovers during the spring that fixes nitrogen in the soil, and now that the grasses are cut we will till the remaining grasses and roots back into the soil which will compost and add organic matter.

Sure 😊 are they called Red Top fly traps? We use them around the farm in the summer and they catch thousands of flies

There cant be much nutrition left in that! (Hay. Is grass, straw comes from growing grains different things)
Next time, tie up the legs to bring them in to avoid them overcooking.
Get yourself some temperature probes. You probably overcooked the crap out of the chicken but who knows unless you can get the internal temp. In fact someone please send some to review for sponsorship dollars. The cool bluetooth remote ones. Also it's "Weber" not "Weeber" - j/k the saffa accent is cool🤣

What are the dogs guarding against is there wild animals
Yes but nothing really that dangerous. We have foxes, badgers, mongoose, genets, otters... the only thing that could hurt you are the wild boar.
How much does that detatching and baling work cost?
I'm not sure. We let Joaquim grow grasses on our fields in the Winter and Spring to feed his flock of dairy sheep in the Summer.
He does the work and feeds his sheep with the bales.
What part of Portugal central north, middle,or south, are you in? How much do they charge for the language lessons in Portugal?

@@OKportugal thank mate looking for a place to retire, you make it sound brilliant, have been looking at a side cripe to help my retirement, Portugal seems to fit in the picture, leaning the language is fun if the locals are willing to put up with the bad pronunciation 🧐😵😀 only speaking from experience 🙉🤔😀, do you have water tanks on your house to feed the toilet? Do you reciecle your grey water? Is it possible to put up a small wind turbine? Have you heard of the salt batteries, very cheap but hold 1/2 the storage of Tesla batteries, have you looked into ground heating, they use it in DK, my niehbour made one ,yes it works but he forgot a thermalstat to regulate the heat😵🧐🙄😉😀
I bought a reolink of the bat of u tube purely because it tracked, the one I bought didn't track, the website isn't clear and should say if it tracks and be clear, not blaming u or reolink ,my mistake, but wasn't happy
