      I have never seen such a strong resemblance between value investing and a movie, than the movie " Moneyball" with Brad Pitt. In the movie he is faced with the franchise's limited budget for players, build a team of undervalued talent by taking a special aproach to scouting and analizyng players. I think you've been teaching us that same strategies with companies. Check it out, and I'll be waiting for the video!

    Thank you Phil. I think the "Greed" part is not an invention by the screenwriter but taken almost literally from an Ivan Boesky speech in 1986.

    "Boiler room" is very good and very accurate imo. I was a broker trainer on long island during the 90's and the movie is dead on - sleazy techniques and all.

    Phil this is one of the best videos you have done .TH-cam is now overcrowded with your 4M ideas. As a mature investor who has gone through ups and downs you should teach the new generation how to remain calmed one everybody else start follow the bandwagon. Thanks again for the inspiration. Stay safe.

    Oliver Stone made Gekko into a malevolent being, but it’s the quants who were taking over in the 1980s.

    I think that this movie made me realize how money worked. But unfortunately I was too young to start investing. I had no money to start it up. I own all your books. Actually the audiobooks. I really like your take on the movie. Probably the best movie about investing and the stock market. Your books did change all my investments and probably my life. Yes money give you so much choices or possibilities if you prefer. I was wondering if you are working on a book right now? Thanks for everything.

    People like Douglas' character got a lot of things about finances and investment right, but they take it to an extreme, especially neglecting and taking advantage of the human aspect in it. They become a cliche of an evil and greedy capitalist, who would sell their own mother, for a good price. But the lesson imo is that it precisely does NOT have to end this way. You can take and apply the smart advice of experts such as Phil, Warren or Mohnish, without becoming corrupted.
    Edit: I wrote this before finishing the video, so Phil basically summed it up already lol

      If you start to value anything in dollar value, soon you will find yourself valuing everything in dollars. If you made enough money, you can count on that. The q is not whether you become Gekko, the q is when. Anyone I know starts to think exactly like Gekko, for example Soros : "If I wouldn't get the advantage of these people, someone else would."
      And he's exactly right. It's just markets.

    • @intelligentspeculator7327
      @intelligentspeculator7327 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@switchblade5847 Sure, but what a sane person would start valuing everything in their lives, e.g. frienship, relationships, happiness, etc. in dollar value? If they do it, they are signing their own unhappiness. I know a lot of successful and rich people who are nothing like Gekko. Even Phil Town himself does not strike me as Gekko at all, despite his doubtless investment fortune.

      Warren Buffett was not yet a billionaire at the time the movie was released. Difficult to put an exact date on such things, he was closing in on his third comma in 1987.
