    You make me want to start picking up the machines I see at the Goodwill. Sometimes I think I like playing with machines more than I like to sew.

    These machines work so well when all is right with them, I will look forward for a video from you of sorting one out to work well, you make great videos !

      I really like the slant-o-matic types of machines. Thanks.

    Your timing is impeccable. These things are all over the USA in various second-hand shops, and available for very low prices at that. I was wondering if I could get your assessment on the motors and their associated switchgears? It seems these motors and controllers might make for excellent donor units for some of my older machines. What do you think about that?
    Cheers,
    J.R.

    I have the Athena 2000. I believe the round picture/button next to the straight stitch is for repeat.

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. It turns out that button is for bobbin winding from memory. I should've had a good look at the manual first! :)

    I threw away a singer athena 2000 today as the button on the bottom wouldn't reset and the dogs only worked in reverse. I was hoping your video would show me ideas on fixing it but it didn't.

    Hello.
    On my modell 1000 that comes from your country I guess, no one of the 3 potentiometers (width of the ZZ stitch, ZZ other and length of the stitch) does function.
    They are unactiv.
    Any Idea ?
    Best regards.

    I hope to see exactly where you put that drop of oil in the bobbin area. My Touchtronic 2001 sounds like some of those machines.

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oil goes between the large outer ring that turns and the bobbin case which does not turn. I hope that helps in the meantime. I will show it in an upcoming video. Thanks.

    I have a couple of these high-quality American or German machines and the electronics (motherboard) have failed on them. Such a shame that replacement parts are not available.

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is a shame. I guess a component level repair could be possible on the boards but that could be more hassle than it's worth.

      @@InStitches Perhaps you may be ineterested in selling one after you've serviced it. I woudl love to have a working one in my collection.

      Inspired by your video, I had another look at the Futura 2002s using the clamshell foot control from another machine and hey bingo, at least one of them appears OK. Stitch length - is it mechanical in these machines? - isn’t working properly but that may reflect the need for a service,

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marksmale827 That's great to hear you managed to get one going. The stitch length is adjusted via a stepper motor as far as I know but will confirm in a later video. It could be that the mechanism for stitch length adjustment is seized up.

    I've always been a devoted fan of Singer up until the model 401a (which I think is one of their masterpieces) it was one of the last all metal gear driven machines and after that things started going down hill. The greatest name in sewing machine history is now a mere shadow of itself! Today they make plastic, nylon geared junk! What a pity!!

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, Singer along with most other brands have cheapened out - as is the way of our world :(
