I stumbled over hogfather yesterday and instantly feel in love with it just to realise that it's a part of this whole Discworld thing? Mary Christmas me!
For reasons I can't often pin down, the adaption fills me with such love and comfort, that brilliant whimsical joy that only TP can bring. I loved it so much, it became the final push I needed to jump into the books 📚
This was wonderful Mouse! Hogfather is my favorite of the 2 Discworld adaptations that I've seen. Weirdly, I think I saw both Color of Magic and Hogfather before reading the books but I think the adaptations are what finally pushed me to try the books (Hogfather was my first Discworld book then Color of Magic and Light Fantastic and I've gone in order since then). This was a great review and I want to try to fit a rewatch in before or on Christmas so if I do, I'll see if I notice some of the things you mention :D. I hope I talk to you soon but have a very Merry Christmas Mouse :D
The Hogfather TV special was my first experience with the discworld. As a kid i found it very dreamlike and interesting, and the characters and world has always stuck with me. Eventually it got me to where i am now, slowly reading the books! So yeah even though i definitely didnt understand everything it really holds a special place in my heart, even though ive only just started reading discworld.
Hi Mouse. Great review in wish I agree for the most part, from keeping the style, the themes and for the most part the great job at character adaptation. The only issue I’ve got with the chosen actors was David Jason as Albert, I know Its how I feel a character should/could have been played but for me he didn’t quite hit the mark. If I could have had any one do the role ‘justice’ then for me it would have been Wilfrid Brambell (Steptoe and sons). Thanks and catch you on the next review.
@@quietasmouse Most definitely, for me his role in Steptoe is spot on for the portrayal of Albert. He plays a crotchety, chain smoking old man, with a streak of spite running through but this is counted by him being deferential and helpful to certain people. Only difference between them may be their love of horses, I can’t recall with Albert if he likes Binky or not. Mmm something for me to ponder and find out. Thank you for your reply Mouse, it was very much appreciated.
I saw it in school and without reading any books, and I recently rewatched it while showing it to my girlfriend, another person who hasn’t read any of the books. We are both willing to go along with any craziness, so Death’s granddaughter is weird but not like “I can’t fathom this; I’m out.” We both loved it! It certainly stands up on its own if you go in expecting the fantastical and the strange.
Seen the movie. It was magnificent. Pratchett's works are so delightful.. You should read Fritz Lieber. Fafhrd & Grey Mouser series.. I have read most of the Disc world books. Night watch is my favorite.
Omfg I would love to hear you review the cartoons of Wyrd Sisters and SoulMusic I watch them along with Hogfather live action during the holidays or honestly... Throughout the year. During this pandemic they have ben played several times.

Thank you for watching! I just looked up Wilfrid Brambell and he looked very Albert-y.

I'm happy you both enjoyed it, and that not reading the books didn't affect the experience!
