Brutus is honestly surprisingly nice considering his past... if he was super aggressive to everyone at first, knowing this it would have made sense but he really was only annoyed by moving in with some random cat at first. Poor dude...
Edit: Some people in the replies mentioned that military dogs are trained to stay calm and rehabilitation, those are good points too!

This goes out to all currently serving and retired veterans, especially my cousin who is in the Army, thank you all for your service. In times of light and dark, on and off the Battlefield, even on the return. Like the soldiers who returned from Vietnam and were immediately chastised. And those who had passed, may God have mercy.

Even the flashback shows them threatening an elderly man and the younger turban wearing guy using the auto looks like an act of self defense, you would say the same if the military guy was an Arab and the gun holder was white because it's a military personnel in the house of a guy in a different country
So basically, the message is kind of the opposite about how perspective changes everything?
It's the perspective of the dog about his owner not a neutral human hence the storytelling, it's the same as when the villain tells his story from his perspective and how the hero for him is spoken of as the villain usually

I can relate to that. In my case it was my friends who I left behind when I moved to the city to go to hightschool. The first year was the worst. I became depressed had suicidal thoughts, always questioned myself and the way I was, and missed my friends A LOT. The second year was a little better but I still didn't get over it. Now it's my third year. I don't miss them this much now and since I gave my life to Jesus my life's gotten better. But sometimes the memories are overwealming and it hurts.

Yeah earlier in the comic series there was references to a war and I figured that was his backstory. It made me sad. Also, the anguish in the narrators voice makes me think either he is an excellent voice actor and actor in general, or that he has felt the pain of PTSD and losing someone you care about. I don't have war PTSD, but I do have PTSD and that anguish is something I relate to heavily.

He lost his brother and got his ears pierced by a bullet, was blinded in one eye and has two scars on his face. Yet he’s still so nice to and protective of pixie despite his past… he’s such a good boy

When she asks if the bad guys were there, you can see where Brutus pauses.
Even he doesn't see it that way. Not really. After all, they were in their home and in normal circumstances THEY would be the intruders. The context of the War is all that changes this from home invasion to "random weapons search".
Brutus knows; there may not have been a bad guy there. Just a bunch of scared men who did what they felt was necessary; who did as their culture and leaders told them to do.

My dad did deployments to that stuff, not sure if I can say what he specifically did, but luckily he came home generally fine. His buddy died and he still celebrates their birthday. I think he says 8 hours left is the movie that is most relate-able? His team played a big part.
