34:31 is what won Susan her Emmy. That reaction is equal parts terrified and brave. This scene is still the only one of its kind in daytime, and Susan rose to the occasion.
This is why AMC will always go down as one of the best soaps in history. The emotional and social relevant stories that they told is what is missing in today's soaps. The actors in this episode were the vets that would all loved and paved the way for so many others. Thank you Agnes Nixon!
Yep! I loved how so many of their social relevance stories reflected on current events: 1. Phil going to Vietnam as the Vietnam War still raged 2. Erica's abortion after Roe v. Wade (I'm ignoring that hideous unabortion story McTavish thrust upon us poor viewers. Such a slap in the face to all that Lucci and Nixon brought in that trailblazing plot) 3. Cindy suffering AIDS during the AIDS epidemic 4. Jesse/Angie as the first Black supercouple amidst a period when African Americans gained more recognition in entertainment 5. Terrence's racial beating shortly after Rodney King 6. Jamal "divorcing" Alec was based off a real event 7. Chandler Enterprises economically suffering during The Great Recession of the late 2000s/early 2010s 8. Bianca/Reese marrying in Connecticut right after Connecticut legalized gay marriage And other great stories which handled social topics with care and responsibility: Bianca's anorexia, Bianca's rape, Bianca coming out, Michael Delaney coming out, Ceara's incest, Mona's cancer, etc.
Wow! I've wanted to see this episode forever. Thank you so much for uploading this! The quality is incredible. I loved how everyone pulled together for Bianca. Susan's acting was captivating here. A well deserved Emmy win!
This was so sad. A bunch of grown people walking around and only thinking about themselves and not considering what the child was going through and feeling until it got too bad to ignore.
Whew! Just as emotional as I remember. I forgot about this episode, but I watched it once a few years ago and still cried. The ending where Bianca just unloaded so much truth on everyone was heartbreaking. I may be in the minority, but I was still more impressed with SL's acting during that Woman of the Year speech where she was high on painkillers and ripped everyone in the room a new one. Then she broke down at the end saying she missed her mother. I think SL should of gotten an Emmy for that, but better late than never lol.
not necessarily. It was shortly after this episode that AMC took a downtown in 1998 and only had a few bright spots. But overall, yes, AMC was amazing in the 1990s
Once again thanks so much.this is really great....................great job!!!!!!!!!so great to be able to watch and judge the performance of each star.very interesting.....................really enjoying this series of yours.
Anorexics don't do what they do for just one reason. This is an extreme response to trauma. Also, some think it's as simple as weight restoration. It's absolutely not. It's definitely more complicated than telling someone to just eat or to get over it. Props to the writers and cast though. Also, "healthy" is one of the worst words you could say to an ED sufferer. Healthy translates to "fat" for some sufferers.
I'm sorry but let's not forget that this is a soap opera. Yes. They talk about social issues but first and foremost, it is meant to be entertainment. They are never going to hit the mark 100% as far as education because they have to cater to viewers and garnish ratings. And I don't mean that as an insult to you. Those are just the facts.
Wonderful job by everyone including the doctor who reminds me of the lawyer for Amber Heard. Some feel Bianca in early years was spoiled. IN truth she was loved by so many - all Erica's men.
After ‘Erica’ got back out of her chair and got Bianca to finally tell how she had been feeling,… …THAT is when Susan should have won the Daytime Emmy!! .. 🏆👏👍
GEez... .with Erica yelling at everyone (mainly all the men in the room) and saying she won't expose her daughter to psychodrama on top of other things Bianca is going through, I completely agree with the other woman with dark hair who says, 'then you should go home', since Erica's the one who's being so dramatic, here!
mm 12 that’s cause they aged her in 2000 to 16. So it’s suppose to imply u overlook those things and they ignore it or act like when something happens a few years before they aged a character, it was years and years ago when they were little. She was born onscreen in 1988 so it’s 1998 here so she’s 10 but in 2000 when she’s suppose to be 12 she’s 16. They did the same thing to Miranda on the prospect park episodes. The show ended in 2011 and Miranda was born in 2004 so when it ended she was 7. In 2013 when it got picked up again, it was set 5 years after 2011 so 2016 so she should have been 12 but was aged to 16. That went for Aj too as they were born on the exact same day and year. It’s a way to use the characters more as kids can’t be worked more than 4 hours a day.
@@greenlee7smythe i read once about a soap actress who was actually pregnant when her character was and they wrote her birth scenes just before she went on leave. Soap opera rapid aging syndrome (SORAS) is the practice of accelerating the age of a television or film character (usually a child or teenager) in conflict with the timeline of a series or the real-world progression of time.
I couldn't stand her either. She was wrong for not stepping in and making sure Bianca saw Erica as much as possible. I'm glad Bianca called her dad out in that.
@@theresadoyle2476 Me, too. That made me so angry. Bianca is begging for her mother, and they do everything they can to keep them apart. Erica wasn’t perfect, but she was a good and loving mother and for Barbara and Travis to try to poison Bianca’s view of her was just wrong. Despite their problems, Erica never tried to undermine Travis.
especially as Barbara is no saint as a mother. It was her that took her eyes off little Laura and that beautiful girl ran out into the street, was hit by a drunk driver and died. For all of Erica's faults, at least she would keep her eyes glued on a child if she was hired for babysitting services.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It was such a moving and important episode. I wish soaps were like this today.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!! Incredible performances by everyone. Damn I miss AMC
I miss AMC from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The last 10 years of the show were not good. Especially after they brought in the new Kendall.
This is such a great episode. Let’s give credit to the actress playing the doctor too, she did a great job holding her own with all these greats.
Travis, Dimitri, and Barbara combined still stood no chance against Erica!
The child deserved a Emmy
the stories during this time were beautifully written. and the actors and acting was excellent during this time in soap history.

Barbara was a witch towards Bianca and I liked her. Bianca was so pissed at all of her family members, especially Erica!

She was also hiding the fact that she was gay. I think this was foreshadowing her being gay.
This show was so much better in the 90s started going down hill in the 2000s
Barbara is Claire Ramsey from Guiding Light.
Travis was Kyle Sampson from Guiding Light, too.

LOL, 'all of Erica's men'. I guess that's true. Well put. Probably shows Erica has some serious issues as she's been married about 4 times.
This actress as Bianca was good, but I always wondered how this storyline would've played out if gina was still playing Bianca
Is the guy Erica talking to at the beginning Kyle Sampson from Guiding Light?
A powerful story line
