    I so envy the good sense in England where you can use silencers. In the US our ears suffer from stupid regulations outlawing silencers on hunting guns.

    The so called animal lovers should maybe read up on the damage theese birds actually inflict on the bird and other animal populations before they all start crying murder and running of to join the green party. Get educated or go out with a group of hunters and actually learn something. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it.

    What a lot of people don't realise is that some of the most destructive pests are not the rooks, which are what you are shooting here,but the insect larvae they are the main predator of. You can have a greater weight of insect larvae under the ground than sheep and cattle on top! I am an ex farmer and I'll own up to shooting a lot of things, but I would never touch the rooks, because they do far and away mor good than harm.

    Only just clocked this video. Zero 200yrd then 3.5" drop to 300 yrds. Why did I buy a 220 swift? Actually published trajectory for 17gn Hornady ammo is 2 feet of drop at 300 from a 200 zero but you also have to cope with a 4 inch high 100 yrd trajectory no wonder most of your targets were taken at ranges within the capability of the average 22 LR.

    The Ruger 77/17 comes screw cut to accept 1/2" UNF moderators. There's no affect on terminal velocity, it's just the hole is bigger! I use my .308 mod on my 7x64mm and it has also does not negatively affect bullet performance.

    Well I’m happy shooting them out at very long ranges with my .22 lr using subsonic ammo and I normally hit and kill them and even some woodies also the ammo is much cheaper as you know and it’s much quieter so I shall stick to my .22lr

    I haven't checked the actual muzzle velocity over the chrono yet, but if you believe the box, the Winchester V-Max kicks out the 17grain bullet at 2550fps. This equates to 245fpe at the muzzle.

    I love going on hunting videos and seeing posts about how "killing animals is evil" its like dude, other animals kill each other all the time, and man has been hunting animals for food and other practical purposes since the beginning of human existence...
    plus when people say "how would you like it if someone shot your kid" it just makes them look like bigger morons because realistically that will never happen unless some sick bastard brings a gun to a school and shoots it up... in which case he'd get the death penalty or life in prison usually...
    but really it's as simple as this: all the meat you buy at a grocery store is from animals that have been on a farm/warehouse, collected and bred with hundreds of thousands of animals just like them for one purpose: eventually dying, getting fried and covered in hot sauce to feed some random fat guy in Louisiana. and it's debatable that these animals are also mutilated and tortured in those warehouses. So if you're all concerned about the animal's feelings, I'm pretty sure sniping the animal and instantly killing them during a hunt is a way more humane way to kill them than having them locked in a crowded warehouse, feeding them steroids to make them riper, and then holding them upside down by the talons and cutting their heads off. And I'm not an animal rights activist, I just have common sense. Animal domestication for food is basically the holocaust for animals. They're all just waiting to die.

    i would like to say my 22lr can hit just fine at 200+yards the only reason i haven't killed a crow yet is because they fly away the minuite they hear the crack of my rifle(i use an brake barrel and its not thredded for a slincer)and the bullet usually hits were the crow was!

  • @eduardosc3434
    @eduardosc3434 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok so let me get this straight. You claim the 17 HMR can only shoot 200-300yrds. But a .22 LR can shoot over a mile. Even though the 17HMR has more powder and less mass HMMMM something tells me people think it only shoots 2-3 hundred yards because theyve never shot it further. He also states that it drops off significantly after 60 yards that is so absurdly false i dont have enough words to ecplain how wrong you are. I shoot my 17HMR anywhere from 25-200 yards very often and it has little to no drop at all. So this video is extraordinarily inaccurate

  • @upstatearms4
    @upstatearms4 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    yea i would not take that far of a shot either... and as far as 22LR dropping at 60yards... i like this channel and their vids however the ballistics info on the 22LR is REALLY incorrect, dropping off at 60 yards sagnificantly i could possibly understand if they are using the augilla 60gr sniper cartridge, but give credit where its due the 17HMR is more accurate than your standard 22LR rifle

  • @JohnnyRebKy

    Whats the best zero for 17hmr for flattest shooting? I prefer to use holdover for longer distance rather than worrying about being to high at closer range due to zeroing for long shots.

  • @TeamWildTV

    As far as I'm aware, only .22 semi-auto rimfire rifles are permitted 'section one' firearms under UK firearms laws. This means .17HMR are currently not allowed on a standard UK firearms license.

I don't own a rimfire rifle, so its nice to maybe get some feedback from people who do. I never said it was the most efficient tool. Yes I know it is not the best tool for the job, on windy days my 17 hmr sucks at long range. Too much wind drift. All I'm saying is people hunt how they want to hunt. People like a challenge be they professional hunters or not. I started using a handgun because I like getting close even though I could benchrest my 270 wsm and shoot a hog 500 yards away. I'd rather shoot at 15 yards away with a handgun because that is what I like to do.

  • @RubenakaChupacabra
    @RubenakaChupacabra 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using the most effective tool does not make you a professional nor do professional always use the most effective tool, Look at Larry Weishuhn he uses a pistol. People still hunt with long bows because that is how they like to hunt. If they are hitting the birds apparently it is suitable. At 300 yards on a small target you either hit or miss. At that distance a hit is gonna humanely put the animal down

    You can get .22 WMR semi-auto's though can't you just seems daft, it's a larger case than a .22LR and a larger bullet than the 17 hmr so isn't it gonna be more powerful and more "deadly"?

    You make it sound as if it took millions of years just to create one animal. Remind me, how many crows are there in the UK alone, not to mention the entire world?

    Forgot to add, to prove you really do have no idea, I think you should put up a target at 300 yards and see just how much drop you get from a 200yard zero. Hmmm, just a tad more than what you said, by around 18inches. Never mind your weren't far out.....

    Eat corn mainly. Eat corn that, to use an example, took a year or half a year to grow. Thats time and profit that dribbled out of a farmers pocket.

    Great video, but 300 yards is asking a tad much from the 17 HMR. Maybe 200 yards. I have the same caliber in a Browning T-bolt. The CCI A-17 17 HMR @ ammo @ 2,650 fps will still be going 1,466 fps at 200 yards with 81 ft. lbs of energy. Sighted in at 100 yards, the drop at 200 yards will be only 7.5 inches. Actually a bit less drop because the ammo's actual muzzle velocity is about 2,700 fps.
    I really like the fact that they've put a 3-12x56 MM Zeiss Victory scope on the rimfire, instead of the usual 50 Euro Bushnell Banner. I had the same Zeiss scope, and it was my favorite. The video demonstrates why it makes good sense to put an expensive scope on a rimfire rifle.
    The only drawback is that most rimfire ammo bullets have fairly low ballistic coefficients. The above 17 grain bullet's ballistic coefficient is only .128, whereas the 17 Winchester Rimfire Supermag 25 grain round uses varmint bullets that have a BC of .185. The BC of a bullet is useful because it tells us instantly at approximately what range in yards that the bullets muzzle energy will drop by 50%. In this case, the 17 HMR 17 grain bullet has lost 50% of its energy at 128 yards.

    You were spot on with your assessment of the Ruger 77 rimfire series. I own a 77/22 magnum rifle. They cost a good deal more than a marlin or savage but are well worth the money. The gun is as good quality as a centerfire hunting rifle. The trigger on this gun is far too heavy. I believe mine was 6 and a half lbs. I bought an aftermarket trigger and now the pull is 2 and a half lbs. I absolutely love it now. It is ridiculously accurate with 33 grain Remington ballistic tips.

    Thanks for the info. We're going to put a lot more time into this cartridge. I've got my long range work down with my .300 winmag, but shooting a .17HMR at 300 yards is like shooting my .300 at 1200yards! :-)

    A 22lr is better because its a heavier bullet you said it would drop a lot at 200 yards u didn't even shoot that far

    Stupid question I know. But if this is the European team. Why are y'all measuring distance/ judging distance in yards?
