I KNOW THE POOL IN THE THUMBNAIL. It's the pool at bunratty castle hotel in Ireland. I spent three days at that hotel and every night I would be in that pool. It's ethereal and liminal.
The song at 25:13-28:27 contains a large portion of a song sampled within that aired on the Weather Channel back in the early to mid '90s. I used to watch the Weather Channel religiously back then...ironically enough, partly for the music, as it was the only place playing this sort of music in those days, unless you were adamant about finding more places for smooth jazz and adult alternative music. I actually have one of the computers that was used to broadcast the Local Forecast in those days (a WeatherStar 4000)...need to dig it out and hook it up and see if it contains any music files for old songs at some point. EDIT: Found it super fast...the song being sampled is a song called "Smooth Sailing" by Trammell Starks.
Really am digging these playlist and reminds me of the time when i first spotted your channel with the 1993 playlist(which is my favorite) 😄 But too mention the Aesthethic pools are not only great but really brings out the more creativity than what is seen through most modern designs.
These mixes are fantastic. And the reverb FX adds to the awesomeness. Adding more ambient sound like water flowing, occasional splashes, pitter patter of feet, distant voices, etc. would make these videos even more incredible. I think there might have been some of that in the first hotel pool video. Anyway, keep up the good work!
I've never seen an indoor swimming pool in the 1990s and the only pool I've ever been is during my summer outings in Wildwood. But nevertheless I can still feel the nostalgia while listening to vaporwave and staring at these hotel pools. Thank you Retro Player One.
Why did you remove the Vaporwave/Chillwave Sunset Mix video with the Macintosh on the right side of the desk, the retro Pepsi Can slightly off center and a nice the Palm tree waving in the background with frequent flow? It killed the vibe man =[
Listen to at least 2 Retro Player One mixes per day. The pool ones are probably the best. Takes me to the happy place, it's now my goal in life to have a beautiful serene indoor pool and I'll play this music while slowly floating around drinking orange juice.
I seriously love this music but this is not circa 1995, its circa 1983/82. 1995 is the Tupac/Biggie era, Sublime, No Doubt, Weezer and Foo Fighters! This kind of music is early and mid 80s! Please label it as the 80s going forward lol..im 38 so i know this. These are sounds of my childhood not teenage years
You are correct (we're the same age) but I posit that you encountered many spaces growing up where time seemed to flow more slowly, as the architecture, furnishings, and maybe music, weren't the very latest, because trends move too fast, and cost too much; some aesthetics become homogenized and things that work to set the ambience of, say, a clothing store, may not work for a dentist office. Even some of the bands you list here were formed in the late 80's (No doubt, Sublime) and early 90's, but had their successes/break-outs in different years through the 90's. Even with 2Pac's incredible success and popularity in '95, you probably weren't going to hear a hotel playing 'Temptations' over their speaker system. Eventually, our concept of time blurs anyway and we are simply left with big fuzzy feelings of nostalgia for days past.
I know this is going to sound weird, but put on some Vick's Vapor Rub and listen to Vaporwave while breathing the menthol vapors. It actually adds to the ambience. I mean, you've got the auditory element with the music, the visual element with the still picture of the pool room, and those mentol vapors add an olfactory element to this chill experience.
