It is nice to hear how a song continues to develop as it is recorded until Elvis finds it ready for recording. Mainly because Elvis had to rehearse one or the other song the first time it was played, others had to be rehearsed umpteen times before he thought they were masterful. Hi Leon, It was great seeing you on Brent's Elvis Nation Live last night. I found it funny that I chose. "a mess of blues" for winning the wonder wheel and when I was ill Brent asked me what song I would like him to play for me and I chose "it feels so right" you mentioned both of them last night. I also have always liked "give me the right" and "such an easy question" we must have the same taste ha ha! I think you and Brent are great together, you come across as 2 naughty school 🚸 kids. It is funny that Karen and added irony was that I only just finished doing a first take to the master on "A Mess of Blues" the other day, so watch for it in a few Wednesdays time. It was nice to join in as work commitments usually mean that I can't make either of the live streams. xx
Hi Leon ! Great work putting together all these alternate takes in the right order ! It's a pure pleasure to listen to. You mention in your presentation that Hank Garland doesn't play on these sessions but I think he does. He is playing the 'tic-tac' 6-string bass/baritone guitar while Scotty plays lead. Sounds logical Elvis would have liked Scotty to play lead for his first record in almost two years :)
