I appreciate your Christ and kingdom-centered walk through this passage. Those who close their eyes, turn def ears, and dull their hearts so that they will not understand and believe the truths of Jesus Christ are fully responsible for their rejection and judgment. Those who have ears to hear, eyes to see, and hearts to receive the truths of Jesus Christ credit that fully to God's grace in opening their eyes, ears, and hearts so that they can understand.
These things are freely given to us by God (1 Cor. 2:12-14).

Isn't Matthew 13:13 a direct explanation from Jesus that parables are a way to understand? Basically out right saying the bible itself is a story meant to guide you and you need to take meaning from the story and not take it literally?

Pretty much across the board, this passage is taught wrong on TH-cam. Everybody who teaches this passage cuts out the remainder of the chapter that answers all your uncertainties about verses 10-17. Matt. 13 is all about the children of the devil. It is about the Tares. You say there are varying explanations for why Jesus says "even to those who have, it will be taken away." He tells exactly what He means by that in verse 19. The wicked one, the devil, takes away the Truth from his children when they hear it.
The chapter summary is this: Jesus speaks in a symbolic parable that cannot be understood in a public setting where He is speaking to His disciples in front of a crowd of 'others'. Later, when He and the disciples have moved away from that crowd of 'others', He is asked to explain. Jesus tells the disciples that the crowd of people He just spoke in front of are people that He has no desire at all to save (13:15). He says that He intentionally spoke in a way they couldn't hear/understand because IF THEY DID, THEY'D SEE, HEAR AND UNDERSTAND AND THEY'D BE CONVERTED AND HE'D THEN HAVE TO HEAL THEM.
(Critical Note: Though the word 'parable' is used in verse 36, the modern definition of that word does not apply here; this is not a symbolic story that is told only to teach a lesson. It is a LITERAL, factual description of the world we live in.) Jesus explains His teaching with LITERAL meaning and says in Matt. 13:38 that the Tares ARE the 'children of the devil.'
When you look closely at Jesus' explanation from 37-40, it is easier to understand exactly what He is talking about in verses 10-15. Why are the mysteries of the kingdom NOT given to these people? (13:38) Because they are Tares and God has NO desire to save them. Why did God HATE Esau from the womb? Because Esau was a Tare and God had NO desire to save him. It all makes perfect sense when the full chapter of Matt. 13 is seen in context.
