  • Lifted your GU or GQ Patrol/Landcrusier and suffering poor braking performance?
An extension bracket for the brake proportioning valve may not have been fitted and is required when you lift your live axel vehicle.
Make your own bracket to suit your lift and the results may surprise you. My braking performance improved dramatically, The girlfriend noticed without me mentioning anything!

Do you have a template or shop drawings giving measurements of the extender for a 3" lift GU Patrol

@@danielmitchell5814 The valve affects the braking force distribution between front and rear brakes, intended for heavy loads and towing.
The more load on the axle, the closer the axle and body, the more brake force to the rear.
When lifted, it increases the distance between the body and the axle and will effectively reduce braking force on the rear axle unless corrected with a bracket extension.

@@jamesgarage1223 some one told me that its for vehicle in the air, when it jumps over, when rear excel is in air, it gets tension and apply rear excel brake, so when vehicle lands, it apply brakes, is it so?

Hello. Coincidentally I just did the same conversion on mine, yesterday. Simple job, although I'm still not sure of the correct position / lenght of the spring. I just brought it back to the un-lifted condition / length and hope it's ok the way it was. Hopefully the info in the video will help somebody who wants to do this adjustment in the future!

Spring is supposed to be horizontal and a certain amount of tension

Hey mate , I got a 92 gq wagon with same issue . However the grommets / bushes that protect the spring from being chewed out by the bracket pin or lever slot fell to bits . Have you got a fix for that ?

      Hey Mate
Maybe check patrolapart.com or even Ebay. They should be around somewhere.

James , i drilled equidistant holes in the arm where the spring attaches for more adjustment and after speakiing to patrolapart I used regular grommets in both ends which fixed it . Brakes are much better now . Thanks

Could not adjusting this cause spongy brakes ? I changed both the main brake lines 2 fronts and the main rear bleeded the whole system tire by tire and I have to over press to get some brake to work, I did 3" Lift without touching the valve and I see no lost of braking fluid... thanks in advance for your response GU Patrol 2006

If you’ve done a 3” lift and haven’t adjusted the position of the valve to match, Your rear brakes won’t be doing much work.
You should also bleed starting at the furthest away point and working back towards the brake booster.
When bleeding use a clear tube on the bleed nipple to make sure there is no air bubbles in the system as this is usually the culprit for spongy feeling in brakes.
