It reminds me of my father, he’s a great flute player... He’s Njamakala I enjoy it well when he’s entire crew play’s together.. Proud being a Fula....
This reminds me of the wonderful Fulani flute player Oumarou Namazarou, who I was honoured to meet in London in 1997. It was the first time I'd heard this type of flute playing. It was truly a beautiful experience. He told me about how he first learnt the flute and its significance to traditional music. At the time, he was playing a concert on London witb Bambaraka, a Jazz-Gnawa fusion group from Morocco.
Dear Mark, my apologies for neglecting to reply for so long. Thank you for telling me about this flutist, I did not know him. The flute he plays and the one played in this video are different but related. His comes from the Fulanis of the Sahel desert and this one from the Fulanis of the highlands of Guinea.

This reminds me of the “Prague Experiment” of which I have read with Jakob Ullmann. As I can no longer find the part, I must rely on my memory: The experiment took place in the 1930s. An african flute player visited the town of Prague to perform one of his compositions. A western flute player, who had the reputation of being able to repeat any piece of music after a single listening, was engaged to replay the Africans composition. So he repeated note for note of what he believed to have heard. However the African said, this was not his piece. So he was required to play his composition again himself. Yet no one in the audience could recognize any correspondence between the first and the second performance. The audience was obviously accustomed to focus on melodic progression, i.e. sequence of pitches and durations; and so was the western flute player. The African instead focussed on the shape of the sound itself, i.e. the subtle mixture ratios of tone and breath; pitch and duration were not even secondary parameters. Since the western audience did not know the code, they were literally unable to hear the music.

Wow I love this sound from 🇪🇹 Ethiopia we have instrument called Washint check it out
Allahou Akbar!!

Change your Spelling in the title from "Bao fello" to "BAAWO FELLO".... That is the correct spelling in Fulfulde.
Gidado you got the wrong spelling. In Guinea, « Bao Fello » is the right spelling bro. This instrumental is from Foutah Djallon, Guinea. Sincerely !
Mbaawo fello
