Rare archive footage and Jocky Wilson's own words tell the story of the rise and fall of a cult Scottish sportman. Featuring interviews with his friends and darts contemporaries.
@@scottish_girl332 As long as darts is still being played, on either TV or just down the local pub, your uncle will always be spoken and thought of very fondly Kelly! Not only was he a terrific darts player, he was a real true character and entertainer who wore his heart on his sleeve and won the hearts of many with his love, passion and enthusiasm for the game! He is very sadly missed by many darts fans but he'll never be forgotten because he left so many wonderful, fantastic moments and memories for all of us to look back on and, above all, he was an absolutely top bloke! Take care and all the best Kelly, your Uncle was a Legend 🎯🎯🏆🏆🍻🍻xx!
Had the pleasure of meeting jocky at a exhibition, he was brilliant and I absolutely loved the guy..and it’s a shame we lose the true characters of various sports. R.i.p jocky.
Darts is one of the truly accessible sports, if you've got a few feet of space, you buy a board and a cheap set of arrows you can play to your hearts content. Jocky a true working class hero
What a legend. Great Darts player and great character. Such a shame how it all ended up for him, and how he turned himself into a recluse. Hope there is a heaven because people like Jocky Wilson deserve to be there 👍
A Scottish sporting legend. Rags to riches story of a local man who brought joy to his community and to his nation. He inspired many. I have a set of Jocky Wilson endorsed darts somewhere. Inspired me to get my dad to put a dart board in my bedroom. Thank you for the great memories Jocky. R.I.P.
48:18 Right in the middle of a World Title battle, Eric's just gone out on a bullseye and Jocky acknowledges Bristow's genius right there despite all the needle and they shake hands. True sportsmanship.
One of the best documentaries I've seen in a long while, cheers for uploading it. So sad what happened to Jocky in the end. The likes of; Jocky, Rees, Evans, George, Lowe and Bristow definitely made Darts what it is today. Can't really enjoy watching the PDC anymore and the BDO is no more, so I just carry on watching all the old matches from the 70's/80's, some of the best matches ever.
@@gothicgolem2947 sadly for me the PDC just seems too robotic these days, too many of the players look like they're just going through the motions, don't enjoy it or are knackered from all the games + travelling. Granted there are still some characters like Snakebite, Peterson etc.
@@JC-il6ps you see I don’t really get this argument cause firstly as you say we’ve got some and I’d argue lots of characters price Peterson Wright dimtri van der Berg but also I look at other sports and it’s like football look at that the Players there are just trying to play there best and ein same with lots of sports I just love watching the best in the world battle it out and it’s also nice seeing lots of the characters like it’s always entertaining watching Jose play cause of his unique way of counting and doubling so idk for me it still has lots of real characters and even if it didn’t it would be like lots of other sports were there trying there best

Jocky lives on forever in our hearts! He is one of the greatest Great Britons of all-time! A true one off, there will never be another like him. We love you Jocky!
I grew up watching legends like Jocky on TV and both he and John Lowe were favourite players, especially when either of them played and beat Eric Bristow. I really wish I could have met Jockey at least once to shake his hand. Rest in Heaven Jockey and if you see Eric up there, kick his arse up and down the Oche a few more times for me, champ. P.s. Great to see Rab Smith in this video too, he was another great player and sadly not enough match videos of him from the TV matches before he retired from professional tournaments in '83.
Genuinely moving stuff. I knew almost nothing about the guy, but he seems like a deeply sensitive and vulnerable man who experienced some massive highs but couldn't escape the downs.
The guy was a legend ,the whole nation it seemed watched both his finals , and the bristow final was epic ,never to be forgotten, it was a special time that era when jockey was contesting all the top touraments. He was a force of nature.
Saw him and played him 1991 the worcester tavern worcester park surrey.never forget it.played eric in 2015 at the queens head mitcham surrey.he was a legened too
Jocky, Higgins, Gazza, John Daly All greats of their different sports but all had the addiction, self destruct button. God bless Jocky... forever in our hearts.
He was the working man's hero...he was us up there.. Won it 2 times...like Higgins...its hard for people like that to have money and fame...they ain't prepared....so stop the fucking criticising ... If I see a Dart board or a Snooker/Pool table I think of them...never forgot

I went to turn professional not long after my 16th birthday around 1986. I remember 4 or 5 men approach myself and my dad practicing in the Boars Head In Auchtermuchty late 1984 when I was 14. They asked my dad if possible to speak with both us outside. It turns out they were directors with Argos’ and one of the area managers from Argos was from Muchty and he had been telling them how good I’ was. Well they asked my dad if they could sponsor me. Obviously aware I couldn’t turn pro until I was 16. They knew I couldn’t accept money either as an amateur however they did give me £50 a week and £100 when I played weekly for the pub. I unfortunately got dartitis tho and that was the end before it began. Absolutely gutted. I had well over 50 10 dart finishes and 2. 10 dart finishes when I was 14. When I was 14 2 weeks on the trot I checked ouut 153 playing for the pub in the league. Absolutely gutted about the dartitis. Didn’t know what was wrong with me until Bristow got it in 1993 and there was finally a name given to it
I played Jocky Wilson Darts on my Commodore 64. All the opponents were called by their first initial followed by their surname (J. Wilson, for instance), so I always called myself P. Nis because I was like 10 at the time.

Tom Collings TC very true, all geniuses have an edge to them.
Own worst enemy, George best also was a master of his own demise, truly sad to think of them destroying theirselves, the human condition.......
Why is that? Is it that subconsciously they think they don't deserve their success so they self destruct?
