This is one thing I love about my XT-3. As soon as I look at it I can see the settings and they are easy to change quickly. I usually set the dials to aperture priority with either manual or AF-S focus mode. I also lock the ISO and SS dials so they aren't accidentally moved. My auto ISO is set to a middle of the road preset, but I can quickly unlock the dial and take manual control of the ISO or the SS if needed. And the M/AF-C/AF-S are also on an external switch.

It makes such a difference being ready to shoot doesn’t it? Thanks for watching!

@@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk It does, but as someone who is still learning, I still am in that stage where I need to think about my setup as I shoot. Practice, practice, practice! Great topic for a video btw. Have a great week!

Good information. I would add to one area: in addition to turning IBIS off when shooting on a tripod, turn off your IS on your lens. So, if you have both turn them both off; IS and IBIS when on a tripod. I shoot a lot from a monopod, and I always leave IS on and IBIS on because unless you have a monopod jammed into a major stable place its likely to wobble a bit and IS and IBIS will be ok to use.

I used to do that and I’ve never been able to tell the difference. Maybe I’m just beating up my IS on my lenses 🤷🤔. Thanks for watching!

Once you have your settings set you can assign them to a custom setting then next time you put your camera away just put it on the custom setting. Or if you make a change because you took a non typical image for you you can quickly reset your camera.

A lot of my peers do that. If my settings were more complex I would probably do it too but you make a great point. Thanks for watching!

Thanks. I thought about custom modes, but I think the bigger message might be to set yourself a set-up discipline.

Thank you. One small point, you did not mention White Balance. Or do you always use auto WB?

No I set it to flash outside because I always slightly overpower the ambient so the light on the face is perfect
