    I learned to play way back in the 1970’s with a teaching pro like Nick who made me run drills like this. Needless to say I love to watch Nick coach and teach on TH-cam. I have been teaching and coaching for a very long time and absolutely believe that players need this type of training to develop and advance their skills. You got to do the drills to build the skills. You got to practice the way you want to play. I see so many players that just go out and hit with no purpose or just play sets and make the same mistakes for years.

      He needs to improve his ball feeding...it should also include top spin and under spin,to mimic different scenarios...

    Another excellent video from an excellent coach and student! Nic, as a general question (and maybe a topic for a future video), wondering if you could cover what "defense" means to high level players, and how you think about defense differently as opposed to a really good club level players. Keep up the great work!

      defense is really just what you have to do to get yourself back into a neutral position in the point. when you think defense, you should be thinking about the time for the ball to reach your opponent as well as the position of your opponent. generally, you want to hit deep high slower balls on defense either crosscourt or the middle of the court which allow you to recover and be better prepared for your opponents next shot.

    The demonstration of intensity on the slice backhand is great. Safin is a very measured and mellow kid. Got to tap into some vinegar.

      Watching these vids, I always thought the Prestige and Pro Staffs were too heavy for him to swing aggressively. If the Blade is stock, it should be an easier racquet to swing.

    Nick! Your attitude in this one is.. (I don't even know how to put it) it's funny and encouraging at the same time! High intensity coach, ladies and gentlemen! Just one question from me tho: how is sliding on hardcourt different from clay? I can slide pretty easily on clay but I'm afraid of even just trying it on hard! Any solutions?

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I cover it in an upcoming video

    • @TheBajanCanadiansOtherAccount
      @TheBajanCanadiansOtherAccount 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      obviously sliding is very natural on clay because there is less friction when you impact the ground. sliding on hardcourts is much harder on your body and you have to put much more force into the ground in order to do so. that said, you shouldn't really be thinking about sliding much unless you are at a very very high level. it isn't necessary and its not a skill worth prioritizing. instead you should work on your agility, speed, and explosiveness, which will instantly translate into better movement which will improve your tennis much more

    • @golllaur
      @golllaur 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBajanCanadiansOtherAccount thanks! but does it have to do anything with shoes? maybe there are shoes that are easier to slide with on hardcourts? but I understand the idea of not trying to adapt clay footwork to hard opting for development of something different instead!

    Question, how does rating in the US work? Here in the Netherlands we have ratings from 9 till 1. 9 for a beginner and 1 for a pro. It’s dynamic and each time you win or loose (in a open tournament) it is adjusted based on the rating of your opponent. But in the US it seems you have D2, D1, and also USTA 5, 4.5 etc

      UTR is gaining traction though

    Around 4:00 when hand feeding, I think you were feeding the balls too close to the cones, so Safin couldn't get the spacing he needed.

    This kid has unbelievable ground strokes and his serve was good too in prior videos.
    But did he pick up sports at a late age? Or possibly have a knee injury? It’s like he doesn’t have confidence in his stopping ability, afraid to be aggressive in cutting. It’s strange to me. Hes thin and young, should have more confidence to put more power into his cuts.
