to desire Gods blessing on someone is such a beautiful prayer to make .... beautiful greeting or parting words to share with your fellow man.....God bless you Eddie and thank you.
Thanks for that little snippet Eddie. I have been thinking about that blessing recently. I read about it somewhere and I think it is a wonderful way to initiate a visit. Also, the meaning of our old Gaelic greetings are so much more meaningful than "hello" - "God be with you" and "God and Mary be with you".
Thank you so much for this soul food series of stories and traditions. It was extremely special whenever I've heard this blessing from someone coming into a house- "God bless all here", either people from the west visiting Dublin, or in Mayo... Only heard it a few times and its stayed with me as a yearning to hear it more often. That and blessing a new baby - saw that once where the man cradled the baby and touched their head and chest, possibly with the 'sign of the cross'. Have you any more information on that tradition Eddie?.Storytelling is the best medicine, thank you
Short but Sweet, still Great, I have often heard a saying here in Tipp' as a greeting > God Bless The Work Sir/Mam... Answered by, God Save you Kindly. / When we lose these ways we lose a whole way of life. We then go down another path, it will not be an old Irish path, it will be a new world that would be very strange to the older generations. It will be a huge loss. Mise a chara Sean,
A lot of people say that still in Kentucky, usually though when you leave. "Bless you and yours", "God bless you", "bless you". Must be a Catholic thing, lot of Catholics in Kentucky.
