"You are probably thinking what kind of eqing or whatever I do on the snare and the kick and stuff like that, but um, as I said samples are already kind of already there, so the tweaks that I made are not very huge" *Displays snare's EQ* "Um, except for this gigantic EQ I got right now on the snare". lol
Route to this track only enables routing into that track, which you could do with left clicking, and then also unroutes that track from the master. You could just left click into the track you want to route into and then left click the master to unroute for the same effect.
I mention it a bunch, I tend not to go over super basic stuff. Bussing is basically just routing multiple mixer inserts into a single mixer insert. So if you have a kick insert, snare insert, inserts for each hat, route all of that into a single insert, that's a drum bus.
I had actually tried that with this track before I released it. There is a benefit to doing that kind of sub reinforcement on most tracks, but this one was too low in key to really see the benefit when compared to not doing it.
While this may not be the best idea on my part, I usually don't pay attention to levels in regards to "clipping" before the master simply because FL runs internally at 32 bit depth, as opposed to 24 or 16. Levels will totally run higher than 0db, but they won't distort or "clip". So I really only need to balance them by ear after the mix chain is setup.
The sends are really just tracks that are already setup with a routing similar to traditional "sends". I prefer the free form approach of making any track anything I need.
i second this. more on multi band compression would be awesome. i sort of understand it but i never know how to use it, or when i should be using multi band rather than just regular compression.
I can think of many things that would be more qualified "worst nightmares". And yeah, compression is the name of the game for this sort of stuff. You see many people joking about "compress it 6 times m8" and such. But really, some sounds in this track might have actually been compressed 6 times by the time it got through the complete chain. It's a different world when you're working with completely synthetic sounds. Beyond that, I do what I think sounds good and there's not much else to it.
Hey Seamless, I see that your master track is at 0db but a lot of other stuff in the mix go above 0. Is it ok? Doesn't that affect the quality? BTW Love your tutorials, help me a lot.
Hey Seamless, do you know any way to find a mixer channel's input metering so you know it's not clipping on the input as well? I usually check it on the standard setting with the fader at 0 db before i go on but there must be an easier way.. And do you know whats up with the metering? if i check out someone else's track in FL and it's mastered loud the meters always indicates clipping (for example a Feed me track who also uses FL). Thnx again for all the awesome vids!
+SeamlessR is it okay to have your individual instrument mixer channels peaking just below 0, then turn down your master fader volume down to compensate? or does that digitally distort things?
One thing on the note of sidechaining is I'v been using the peak controller on the kick to cut the low end of the bass by a few db. *shrug* thanks for the tut though always love`em.
I usually cut my basses at 90 or 100hz would you say i'm over doing it or could I get around the lower freqs in my basses by just sidechaining? I'm using ableton by the way so I don't have the plugins you do
So, you sidechained every synth that is a bass with your kick? I never thought of that, and now that I think about it, that would actually make the kick and snare sound "large" or punchy.... O.O Thanks seamless Im going to start applying this to my mixing from now on!
Seamless! You are such a boss, bro! I've only been producing for about 6 months But I was wondering where you learned everything you know? Did you take some classes or something? lol
I remember him saying in one of his videos that his music production course teacher asked him to pick between FL and Abelton, so I do think he recieved education for music production
I'm going back to the manual :P But I really think your mixes would be more intense if you would leave a bit more headroom on the channels now and then (at least in my experience, it maybe just a psycho-acoustic thing ;) ) thnx again for sharing your knowledge, it's really helping a lot!
one of the alot things that i never know , is if u must produce loud and later compress in izotope the whole track , i make a tune with all sounds about 6db and export to wav , them i master in izotope is a bad way?
No, exporting a the final mix and mastering it separately is actually the traditional way of doing things. There's no bad way to master, as long as it achieves the same result, which is generally to glue everything together and finalize a track.
While I understand SeamlessR's ideology of "I like how it sounds, so that's all I'll do because people are listening", I really wish he'd delve into TAMING and mastering the art of squashing the living hell out of a mix. There are more efficient ways of doing things that I'm positive he'd favor the results of to his current methods, but some artists feel "Why sound better when people like me already?" Again, juuust my take on it, no need for butthurt guys.
What are the the basics of "Busing"? I'm not sure what that is exactly. Do you talk about it in any of your other videos that I can watch if you cant be bothered explaining it through a comment!? :D
I'm going to TRY to make a track in this summer.3 months is more than enough for a track imo, wish me luck, track will be on my youtube page if anyone wants to hear the end result.
This is literally an engineers worst fuckin nightmare, I saw +6 db of gain in that eq at over 16k and across. The human ears cant even hear anything above 20k so your better off just cutting at 19 or 18.5k because there is almost no difference between them and 20k. Dubstep is so compressed its not even funny, Chris Lord Alge would even be amazed by how much compression Dubstep uses and thats saying something.
Love this video, really good to know even more about mastering, there's so much to FL that i'm always discovering, even after using it for so long. Check out my tunes if you feel like it, at my channel >chill >psychedelic >hiphop >jazz stuff
Thank you so much bro!! You have helped me out a lot. I was just watching this vide, and I was on my other laptop following your tips, and putting them in a way that worked for me. This is how my production for my new album "New World", album. soundcloud.com/dre-wilmore/a-t-w-new-world-song-7-full-song-comming
Good tutorial!! Any one hunting for the top advanced instructions using the internet can take a look into BeatGenerals, they will have trainings with the styles of all your well known artists and / or producers...

lol
thought the same thing lmao
4:35 lol the timing was perfect

I really like your sidechain bus, i didn't understand how to do it thou.
Have you made a tutorial that explains how to do this specific routing?
I've learned so so much more about FL since I came across your videos and still got lots to learn! :)
Holaaa que programa usas para grabar el video??? oye eres tremendo productor
Tremendously helpful, as always. Ty so much seamless.

Mixing a dubstep EP right now, thanks allot man.
Wat is that first wobble bass u used, it sounds really cool
+SeamlessR is it okay to have your individual instrument mixer channels peaking just below 0, then turn down your master fader volume down to compensate? or does that digitally distort things?
is "rout to this track only" the same as just to left-click on the arrow?
One thing on the note of sidechaining is I'v been using the peak controller on the kick to cut the low end of the bass by a few db. *shrug* thanks for the tut though always love`em.
Hello. How are you cutting heights? Does have maximus some option for it? Thanks for answer :)
I usually cut my basses at 90 or 100hz would you say i'm over doing it or could I get around the lower freqs in my basses by just sidechaining? I'm using ableton by the way so I don't have the plugins you do
you should experiment with Vocoder Carriers. You can get FREAKING AMAZING sounds by using crazy/changing carriers.
So, you sidechained every synth that is a bass with your kick? I never thought of that, and now that I think about it, that would actually make the kick and snare sound "large" or punchy.... O.O Thanks seamless Im going to start applying this to my mixing from now on!
Great work
Seamless!
You are such a boss, bro! I've only been producing for about 6 months
But I was wondering where you learned everything you know? Did you take some classes or something? lol
nope he has been using FL for like forever :P
I remember him saying in one of his videos that his music production course teacher asked him to pick between FL and Abelton, so I do think he recieved education for music production
Wafiq Shimar FL and Reason. Ableton didn't exist back then.
I cover it in a video called "Sidechaining for fun and profit" in my channel.
What exactly is phase cancellation? I hear you talk about it in multiple videos
Could you do a tutorial on how Maximus works? Please? :)
You are helping me a lot Thanks bro
I'm going back to the manual :P But I really think your mixes would be more intense if you would leave a bit more headroom on the channels now and then (at least in my experience, it maybe just a psycho-acoustic thing ;) ) thnx again for sharing your knowledge, it's really helping a lot!
Where'd you get the drum samples? I can't get them From your flp because I have 10.0.9! :/
Thanks for listening your subs and for yet another great video ! :)
Seamless why dont you use the send channels? instead of routing everything to mixer tracks, why dont you use the send channels as your busses?
I cover that at 1:45.
What is your opinion on using websites such as, LANDR for online mastering?
what is the purpose of side chaining
one of the alot things that i never know , is if u must produce loud and later compress in izotope the whole track , i make a tune with all sounds about 6db and export to wav , them i master in izotope is a bad way?

No it doesn't matter as long as you are not clipping on the master channel. because FL handles the audio differently internally. Just read the manual.
sick song dude thanks fo the tutorials your the man!!

thats true, but it's helpful if he mentions something, maybe a plugin, maybe a little tip on how to do something, etc.
you don't lowcut your basses and add a clean sub?
What program is that?
*raises hand*
You're really AWESOME at these basses, but have you considered trying to make a melodic house track, or something of the sort?
Goat
"I didnt do much EQ on the kick and snare...besides from this gargantuan eq on the snare"
What are the the basics of "Busing"? I'm not sure what that is exactly. Do you talk about it in any of your other videos that I can watch if you cant be bothered explaining it through a comment!? :D
Do you have any tips for cpu overloads
1)Change hardware plan to High performance
2)in fl studio go to Macro -> switch smart disable
Bounce midi to audio
did you mean bounce the project to trackouts and then use that trackouts for mixing and mastering?
I'm going to TRY to make a track in this summer.3 months is more than enough for a track imo, wish me luck, track will be on my youtube page if anyone wants to hear the end result.
I belive the sound at 1:37 is when you get a message on plug.dj!
Bout fucking time :)
Sr Seamless
The tweaks that I make are not very huge, except for 04:45, hilarious.
FL Studio bro :) Get IT! Get! The! PROGRAM!
omg!great job.... please flp))))))It is very necessary! I want to understand the principles of construction
1:37, that was your facebook :P i thought it was mine so i checked xD
lol that sound at the end is facebook notifications lol
m8 do u even compress?
Side-chained 10:46
Not Side-chained 11:56
Fuck all that noise you da best.
1:40 That sound was probably Facebook.

Only if it sounds bad.
my brain is broken now haha

great now i sound like seamless... jokes...
So much in the red wtf
For some reason nothing open at all. Not even drums
i'm the devil. don't do that, that was bad idea, and 10 hours without result. (split on 16 bands)
Good tutorial!! Any one hunting for the top advanced instructions using the internet can take a look into BeatGenerals, they will have trainings with the styles of all your well known artists and / or producers...
I feel like it isn't very useful to watch how someone mixed something. You more have to actually mix yourself, and get experience.
no shit
m8 do you even make original jokes?
Love the content but you should consider taking speech classes, most of the your words are surrounded by percussive mouth sounds and mumbles
Gives out free production lessons and gets told to take speech classes.
Wut?
