I play drum set, and I try doing stuff like this but it ends up just sounding like I'm hitting random drums. I've been wanting to take either this song or your 'The Hills' remix and learn it on set but haven't found the time. Any suggestions on how to do what you do? Thanks!

Any prestigious marching line actually trains with a quarter taped to the head of the snare and you play on the quarter to perfect precision such as this.
I think I´ve seen this at least 20 times. Actually still blows my mind. I used to play drums but I had to stop because of my neighbours. There´s nothing i miss more than this. Please, enjoy the most you can each second of this beatifull thing for me.

This is such an awesome video that I keep coming back to. The remix and cover itself is incredible, but there is so much more to it. As many people have pointed out, the hand movements are amazing, the passion he has as he plays, the way he even follows the remix and the subtle details in the instrumental with the short pauses of the cymbal and how cool it looks and how precise he does it, the way he even follows or makes an original high-hat pattern by switching up the notes from quarter notes to 8th or even 16th notes, and how it goes from high pace to doing that hi-hat slowdown we often hear and that makes my mind bend because it sounds so pleasing and looks so dope. And its also a great way to see how the different sounds are produced, from the rimshots, to the cymbal build-ups, to the pace of the kick drums and making you be able to break down the instrumental and appreciate it even more. Even his long hair compliments the cover because it gives an awesome aesthetic to the video (props to the cameraman as well). This is just a brilliant remix and a showcase of pure skill, passion and creativity. Phenomenal video and cover! :)

you know he (often) picked the remix to reduce the chance getting a copyright strike from the label compared to using the original track ,right? instrument covers are easier to get those strikes and tend to be "wasted" because no money comes from the video, unless you do something to the track or do something illegal lol.
