Dude, just followed this to repair an SVO-2000, works like a charm!
We all owe you a beer or two man!

Just repaired this on my Sony SVO2000 using the part from I'm guessing UrielX1212's ebay account using this video and it went great other than that little metal circle that holds in the white gear went across the room (I now realize why you had your finger over it while prying lol).
Thank you for this video saved me some money and I'm more confident to do this kind of repair in the future.

Nice video. How do you get the tape loader out, what is the process?

Thanks for this one! Literally when you uploaded this, a Sony SLV-798HF I've got here decided to not eject a tape I was digitizing. Different mechanism, but I'm motivated to see what's wrong with it. Half the time, the mechanism goes into safety mode and reloads the tape instead of ejecting. The other half, I need to put my hand in front of the slot so the tape doesn't rocket out. Something may have broken, but there's no loose parts rattling around inside. Off to find a teardown video on this unit.
Fixing this should be easier than the mode switch clean on a Marantz (JVC clone) SHVS I've got here that won't pull a tape in without a little manual help. Once it's in, everything's fine. Not seeing anything mechanically wrong with that one, but would make sense if the motor wimps out early due to not knowing which mode it should be in.

I have the same model as you that wouldn't eject. I found the cause was the lift arm the opens the door has slop in it cause the door to open too slowly. The tape then jams or hits the door and reloads. Did you find out your issue?

@@jasonallen522 It’s been sitting in a closet for a while. I’ve got too many projects going here right now but will take another look when I can.

My mechanism is not exactly the same but that little plastic bit was cracked just like in the video. Let's hope the epoxy mixture was correct and I put it together the right way but anyway thank you for enlightening me on what's the problem

Hey Dave, I'm wondering if pro decks used more metal parts inside? Brittle plastic seems to be the Achilles heel of old VCR's.

Broadcast decks (betacam and 3/4") yes but the so called prosumer or industrial decks no. Exact same plastic mechanism. I have an svo2000 which is a pro machine and it us the same.

@@2610Someone I will. I do have a pro svhs deck but it needs hundreds of caps replaced. Some day perhaps.

Same coupler as the 711b3 betamax. I do a 3d printed replacement that works great and I do sell these on eBay.

I have a Sony ev-p10e 8 mm video player, the problem is that powering on I see the drum rotating but pressing eject nothing happens. The eject led blinks for a while and then stop. At this point also the drum stops and the power led will turn off. Pressing again the power, the cycle restart.I have the service manual and I see that the Mode Switch has a motor. I tested the loading motor with a power supply and it works but the loading motor providing power on the connector doesn't. I don't know how the eject mechanism works, but I guess that the loading motor will in some way activate the cassette deck release. What do you think? Should a failed mode switch cause this problem? Thanks

Yep, the marriage between metal and plastic parts often leads to a divorce 😉

10 blinks is a voltage error on 3.3 5 9 or 12 volt supply. Could be a shorted chip cap or bad chip. Hard to say what it would be. I have done a couple of plasma sets and they were a pain in the ass to find the bad part.
