Possum fur is so amazing! I finished a baby and adult. The baby had Lots of fuz pull through skin fleshing, doesn’t pull out fur side, just gonna sew together and keep fuz in there.
@@ALs-Outdoors I just started tanning my self so I can sell the hides my self here in KY I use Indian tradition with the brain method and it turned out awesome and gives you a more respect for what they went through to do this
Love it great how to video Al. Funny how we like to hate and avoid catchin opossum but they do have a real nice soft fur, gonna do a couple myself this year using that orange bottle of tanning formula. Good show buddy. HAPPY TRAILS.
I have two questions: 1. Do you sew any holes up before you put the tanning solution on or later? and 2. How do you get blood stains off from where they've been shot. It's not a big deal because no one will see it for the sewing project I'm using my possum for, but I haven't been able to get the blood stain off from the poor little guy.
I sew them with dental floss. I've done it before and after. I wash any blood and dirt off before I stretch them and again before I tan them. If it's not a lot ya can just let it dry and brush it out. Dawn dish soap and or oxyclean is good at removing it.
On my 2nd day of salting my first hide its a possum, wondering if i should soak it with dawn dish soap to help with the odor or soak it in salt water but idk for how long? N then dry n tan it
@@bluenovacorgi8230 I never soak a possum more than 24 hours. The hide is thin and the hair could slip. I wash them both before and after I soak in salt.
@ALs-Outdoors ya thats what i was worried about being so thin n all, so i can soak it for 24 hours then n itll be ok? Or less time? In a salt pickle with alum n detergent would be ok or no?

I've got so many hobbies that I shouldn't!😂 thanks my friend.
From catching it to sewing it, not a lot of people know how to do that. Great video i just subscribed!
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.

possums and rabbits are sooo thin.

Surprisingly easy to tan.
Good video brother

I learned something today. I've never tanned a hide before, except for my kids. LOL

Cool tanning tips I might try to do my Bobcat I caught this year hope I don't mess it up
I've messed up a few... stressful. I'm doing my bobcat from this year right now.

@@ALs-Outdoors Thank you!!!
Do you wash off egg mixture after leaving it on overnight?
No...anything that dosent soak in rubs off while working it soft.
Cool video. Tan on
Tanning a Grinner 🤣 great video bud 🤘
They identify as "silver fox"😂
Very informative. Do you use alum for every process? I did a squirrel up last year with only using a brain solution
I have done hair off buckskin with just egg yolks and Murphy's oil soap. It's supposed to have the same properties as brain tanning.

@bluenovacorgi8230 yes. I usually do 18-24 hours
Cool
I heard possum hide is 10x stronger than leather ...
Seems strong when finished tanning. The belly is very thin though.
👍✌
Nice video. I’ve never tanned a hide before
