Bujji name is derived from the word bugghi. Now, this isnt the first time that a car has been crafted exclusively for a movie. The car featured in Tarzan the wonder car was also one such, made by DC Designs back then.
Now why did they build bujji? Could they not have used CGI graphics? Of course they could have but the costs would have been phenomenally higher to create such complex graphics from scratch. Developing such a futuristic looking moving prototype is also not cheap. However with part financing by business groups like Mahindra it would have come down a lot and would have made it a sensible decision to use this proto for creating further VFX.
Why would Mahindra want to do this though? Several reasons could be behind it. One, Mahindra would have tested some futuristic technologies in this prototype. If they found a part financier for this work in the movie's maker it would have meant a win-win for both.
There could also be two intangible reasons here. One is the publicity. The country gets to know Mahindra as a cutting edge engineering company thats researching in the technologies of the future. Its a huge advertisement of their capabilities and intent. The other reason could be a little more arcane. Very few people know that Anand Mahindra ji had a huge passion for movie making and artistic things like that from a very young age. And while today he is a very successful industry leader that passion still temains hidden somewhere inside of him. Thats possibly one of the reasons behind the Mahindra Blues Fest that happens in Mumbai. So he would have loved the concept and idea of contributing to a futuristic movie!
