Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.

I ALWAYS get light colored coolers, makes a big difference. When I get to the campsite, I always cover coolers with an insulated tarp, silver side out and hopefully in a shady spot. In the desert, I know some actually dig a shallow hole and partially bury their coolers. This makes a huge difference, too.
I'm always amazed at how many people I see wearing dark clothes in hot, sunny weather and no hat. And, then they complain about how hot they are.
Great job, Carl. Thanks for another nicely done comparison.

My dad (and now I) use an old sleeping bag over the coolers. And move them mid day if needed to stay in the shade. I'll try a tarp though, lighter and I've always got one (or five) in the truck. Thanks for the idea!

i have a yeti 35. i use it for road trips, often to very hot places. it's great and heavy but never leaves the backseat of my car when i'm on the road. i can slide it over and drain the water without taking it off the seat. honestly you can get, say, an $80 igloo that's 95% as effective in keeping cool but probably not as durable in the long run. the person i got the yeti from did not like the weight and the small capacity for the size. if i had to pay full pop i would have gotten an igloo tho i do love the yeti!

I’ve got the Yeti roadie 20 in black color. Got it for my birthday a few years ago. My wife and I use it frequently and love it. My only issue it that I wish I never got the black color as the ice doesn’t last as long as my parents white and tan colored Yetis. Would love to spend the money on a bigger Yeti whenever (if ever) the funds allow.

I have the Yeti 24, 35, 45 and 65. I also have the Orca 20. Between the Yeti 24 and the Orca 20, the Orca wins hands down. The form factor of the yeti 24 and the lack of drain plug really irk me. I’m also not a fan of the yeti 24 new latches. The strap is nice though.

I’ve had several of these makes, and still use an Rtic the most because it was cheap ($99 40qt) and stays cold just as long. Aside from latch mechanisms, virtually all roto-molded coolers are identical.

  • @markalexander774

I have the 65 quart Otterbox that I got for $300 a few years ago. It is really good. It doesn't leak, nothing has broken on it, it seems very durable, and I've never had it long enough to where the original ice I put in was completely melted. At the end of each camping trip I have taken it on, there is always a decent amount of ice left, and these trips I have taken usually are around 3-4 nights, and always in very hot parts of California during the summer. The handles are nice when you are moving it around, but they are making the cooler several inches wider, which is annoying. Unless you have an SUV or a truck, I would not get one of these.
I do not see a reason to get a high end cooler if you are just using it for day trips or as a lunch box. There is no point, just stick with something cheaper. If you are getting one just to show off, just get the Yeti then, it is the one everyone knows and you can feel like you are rich around your friends and coworkers.
The color does make a difference with coolers, if you want the most out of it, get a white cooler.

The best cooler in my opinion is Lifetime. I have a lifetime 28 quart and love that cooler. American made, it’s cheaper then a Yeti, and bear resistant just like a Yeti. I also like the rubber latches and its carry handle. It does not have a drain plug but you can get all the water out just by tipping it on its side.

I started with the RTIC coolers and sold all of them. I have 2 Pelican 50s and a 30. Pelican is easily the best but the big molded handles get in the way most of the time. I have a Yeti roadie which is the perfect size for small weekend trips out day trips. Also have a Pelican soft 30 that I hardly ever use, it’s black and doesn’t keep cold long. Not sure why I even keep it. I also really like the latches on the Pelican, if you use your thumb they are one handed

I test mine in real world scenarios in the Texas heat. Took all 3 to a 2- day softball tournament last weekend and it was blazing hot! The igloo was the only one that still had ice on day 2. All loaded the same, in the same environment.

More expensive coolers are more desirable, but also more likely to get stolen. Most people won't want my crappy 15 year old Coleman.

Been using an igloo legend 36 cooler my parents bought back in 1979. It probably cost them $25 bucks. Still works as good today as it did 43 years ago.....You can keep your $300 Yeti coolers, absolute waste of money.

Own two Yeti’s (both given to me). The following statement is just my opinion. I think Yeti’s are over hyped and over priced. The two I have don’t keep ice much better than my marine grade Igloos. Just really disappointed.

Otterbox is JUNK at least the semi softsided one. I will say I liked my Engle soft sided before that but the zipper didn't even last just over a year. ENGLE IS JUNK. I bought a soft Polar Bear and it is far better for cold retention by far over the Otterbox but still second to Engle

If anyone is looking at the watches please do your research and don't buy the over priced Chinese original grain watches. You can buy Swiss made watches for the same price and even some American made ones from Shinola and Bernhardt.
