Vecepia is so underrated. She was the pioneer of the under-the-radar strategy, one of the most historically successful strategies in all of Survivor, when there was zero precedent for it. She had virtually everything going against her the whole game, and yet she was able to weasel her way into the bottom of alliances and ultimately win by what really should have been a much more commanding vote. Survivor was a different game back in those days, and no winner to that point had been dealt a harder hand. Not to mention, she was the first African American winner of ANY reality TV show. Even if she wasn't too entertaining, she was awesome. Love to see her on this list and getting some respect
@@daltonfarris Yes, she was very cutthroat, and honestly, most winners are, or all of them because they know what needs to be done. I do see how that's not respectful because the game wants you to be cutthroat or else it wouldn't be as entertaining.
@@Furkward she honestly shocked me because in the edit they don't even show people trying to get her back with the old tribe she just kinda joins her new tribe and doesn't care one bit about her old tribe, even the ones who joined her on the new one like Shawn and rob.
@@a.jdeets5527 He and he had to win every single challenge and he did just that. Not to mention he was certainly an underdog because from the first show how many people really genuinely thought fabio was going to win survivor.
I admit it. I laughed when Chris was giving his speech about getting women to open up the backdoor. I'm a child. I'd still rank Denise as the most successful underdog. I know people harp on about it but going to every single tribal council is huge. Even if you feel like you're in the majority, your position is always tenuous. You never have a moment to just forge bonds for the future because everything is in a constant state of flux. Plus, it provides more opportunities for things to go south on you.
I'm really glad you gave Danni the credit she deserves. She's one of the most underrated winners in Survivor and it frustrates me so much when people say she was one of the worst winners/boring when she had such an incredible story and a genuinely likable personality.
Even though I’m against ranking winners, if I were to put them in general groups, Danni would definitely be in near the top. It’s strange to see these rankings where she’s put down so low (probably because of the edit) when she did everything right to win, she didn’t dominate like Tom or Kim but that wasn’t an option for her.

Yul doesn’t win without the idol, because he never gets Penner on his side, so that’s a knock on his game. Also, he had three strong allies. Some of these people had no one
Not just the idol. The surprise double tribal council and the surprise twist of a final 3 instead of final 2, eliminating any chance for Yul to be taken out by his alliance. He had the most twists in his favor of any winner not named Ben. But the Aitu Four WAS awesome
If this wasn't all winners, Spencer from Cagayan (and even Cambodia to an extent) would be on the list. In Cagayan he made it to the final four whilst still being down 5 to 2 at the Final 7

Chris' victory was actually pretty unremarkable, in my opinion. I just re-watched his season and I had forgotten how little he actually had to do at the F7 to ingratiate himself with the ladies and maneuver his way to the Final 2. He kind of just *fell* into an alliance at the F7 which took him to the F3. He actually had a confessional where he said he basically didn't have to do anything. Not trying to take anything away from his victory - obviously totally earned - just not as much of an underdog story where he was targeted at every turn that I seemed to remember.
The thing with Chris is that the female alliance waited too long to eat themselves. I think if they left Chad in for an extra 2 votes, Chris has a harder path. Instead Leann and Ami literally *told* Scout, Eliza, and Twila that they were the bottom 3...getting rid of Leann and/or Ami before Chad would've left a solid alliance of 4 for Chris to break through, and an alternate universe where Eliza wins. Chris definitely was one of the least interesting winners, and his gameplay was almost non-existent...but weirdly enough that was the type of gameplay that was gonna win that season. Kinda like Bob, who won because the others ate themselves alive (and Sugar was more loyal to Bob than the guy who literally pulled her out of a doomed alliance), but Bob was a much, much more interesting character.
Fell into it? Maybe not. If the alliance didn't happen, he probably goes out at F5 if he loses immunity. It's just amazing to see one man dismantle a women's alliance of 6, the fiercest women's alliance at the time brought to their knees by the chubby dude. Also, he was no slouch. He won 3 immunities, and gave one of, if not the greatest final tribal's ever, he gamed Twila so hard and he convinced a bunch of scornful women who didn't want a man to win, to vote for a man to win. He had to work hard to convince Julie and Eliza after brutally stabbing them in the back
@@totaldramatyler4484 With all due respect, you're exaggerating. He won immunities, sure, and he had an impressive FTC performance, but Chris didn't "dismantle" the women's alliance. They dismantled themselves. By the time the F7 came, they were ITCHING to get rid of each other. Chris himself said in a confessional something along the lines of, "I don't have to do anything! I just sit back and watch them fall apart." And his final tribal performance was good, but it wasn't game-winning. He won because he sat next to Twila, who was the only person in the game more reviled than him. Good move bringing her to the end, but Eliza especially was never going to vote for her. He always had that in the bag.
@@soccerguy325 True, however. They were just going to spare him for one tribal, and instead get rid of Eliza, who was on the bottom anyway. He did have to do quite a bit of work to convince Eliza to flip, and to keep Eliza on his side to get rid of Ami at the Final 6, because Eliza didn't trust or like Scout and Twila. Also, look at Day 39, Chris convinces Twila to implode her own game at final tribal, and just BS his way through. And the Final immunity, if he didn't win that, he was as good as gone
@@totaldramatyler4484 Hmm, good point. I remember how much Eliza and Scout and Twila hated each other, and how incredible it was that they actually worked together until the final 4. As for day 39, I think Chris gets overhyped. He deserved his win, of course, don't get me wrong, but my dog could've won against Twila. She was just about the most unlikable player in the game, and Chris knew it. I think Twila did a great job of imploding her own game, lol.
And don't forget that Danni deliberately avoided questions about her strategy in her confessionals so Jeff wouldn't bring it up and expose her during tribal
You've missed me!? Dude, I started watching you because of the Big Brother videos. I've been a mostly casual viewer of Survivor. You have helped me watch some of the seasons I have not seen before
What made Danni such a fantastic winner was how she infuriated production. Probst was looking forward to her being the femme fatale, a year before Parvati came onto the scene. What he got instead was a combination of a tomboy jock (Stephenie) and a diplomat (the future Natalie W). It would be incredibly surprising to not see her use a similar strategy and go on to win another season.

This video is beautiful as an opener to DvG, with arguably a new member of the top 5 in winner Nick. He was saved by a medevac and continually played from the bottom. Not sure he'd dethrone Danni, but maybe he'd land at 4 or 5.
Your videos are not coming up in my recommended feed but I saw your post about this video yesterday. Just thought I’d let you know that the post was helpful
Danni, Denise, and Vecepia (I’d add Aras, Natalie A, Adam, Michele, & Ethan too even though they weren’t underdogs) show that just being p damn good at all aspects of the game but not placing yourself in a position where you’re seen as a titan of any particular area is prob the deadliest strategy you can have
I don't care what anyone else thinks, Denise is number one. I literally got up and clapped and cheered and cried when she won. She is what Survivor is about. Never giving up and fighting to the end.
Danni said in an interview that one day she went into the jungle with Rafe and Stephenie and they made a final 3 deal. It wasn’t shown on the show because the cameras weren’t filming them.
If only Jay Starett from MvsGenX or Spencer Bledsoe from Cagayan were able to make it to the end and win, they both would have definitely deserved a spot on this list.
What about Ben from season 35? I was expecting to see him on here. After the merge his alliance turned on him and he should have been out but stayed strong to the end and only got into the final bc he won a firemaking challenge.
Obviously not a winner, nor particularly successful, but I think my favorite is Eliza. Also love Nat W, Malcolm, Sophie, and, of course, Cirie. They definitely have varying levels of success, but

Fabio wasn't really an underdog until the F5-F6. I do love Fabio though, but I'd say he's close to the Top 5, but not in it.
Peridiam okay definitely a good point! Although seriously underestimated throughout his entire game
If Brett clouser has won the last individual immunity and won the game, he would be the great underdog of the universe
This video is beautiful as an opener to DvG, with arguably a new member of the top 5 in winner Nick. He was saved by a medevac and continually played from the bottom. Not sure he'd dethrone Danni, but maybe he'd land at 4 or 5.
thank you for giving denise her flowers. she is very underrated
Top 10 best Survivor players to not win
Top 10 Survivor/Big brother betrayals
Your videos are not coming up in my recommended feed but I saw your post about this video yesterday. Just thought I’d let you know that the post was helpful
That one feeling when your favorite player is our first and by being medical evacuated
Danni, Denise, and Vecepia (I’d add Aras, Natalie A, Adam, Michele, & Ethan too even though they weren’t underdogs) show that just being p damn good at all aspects of the game but not placing yourself in a position where you’re seen as a titan of any particular area is prob the deadliest strategy you can have
It's been so long since you made a Survivor video!
Denise!!! She was definitely an underdog I love mike I knew from beginning he would win
I love survivor, but I'm already missing your Big Brother content! I hope we don't have to wait until Celeb BB until we get another BB video from you!
Yaaaaaaayyy, so happy you're doing Survivor again.
Good job on the vid! Love the new logo too, Perdiman!
Hope you do a best intro, best season theme, and best tribal council set lists too
No Cochran?? Come on, that dude pulled that immunity win out of thin air, when he NEEDED it!
Danni is one of my favorite winners
I don't care what anyone else thinks, Denise is number one. I literally got up and clapped and cheered and cried when she won. She is what Survivor is about. Never giving up and fighting to the end.
Danni said in an interview that one day she went into the jungle with Rafe and Stephenie and they made a final 3 deal. It wasn’t shown on the show because the cameras weren’t filming them.
I thought that’s obvious tho lol
Great video Peridiam! Your reasoning and ranks are always 100% dead on :)
I love Survivors theme this season💙💖💚
Who else wants to see Peridiam on survivor?
YES! A SURVIVOR VIDEO!!
Nice seeing you again
Lil from Pearl Islands is a good example of an underdog that went far but couldn't seal the deal
Title: most SUCCESSFUL underdogs
Peridiam: "this list will only include winners"
Me: oh, so no Spencer I guess
If only Jay Starett from MvsGenX or Spencer Bledsoe from Cagayan were able to make it to the end and win, they both would have definitely deserved a spot on this list.
Dude I love your channel
What about Ben from season 35? I was expecting to see him on here. After the merge his alliance turned on him and he should have been out but stayed strong to the end and only got into the final bc he won a firemaking challenge.
Obviously not a winner, nor particularly successful, but I think my favorite is Eliza. Also love Nat W, Malcolm, Sophie, and, of course, Cirie. They definitely have varying levels of success, but
We love Peridiam
love your videos so much keep up the great work
Fabio was pretty good underdog
I wish Brett clouser should have won the last individual immunity
The David vs Goliath theme should’ve been with returning players.
Where is Ben!!!!
You should review the Australian seasons of Survivor. Despite what most Americans say, it's actually pretty good, and worth taking a look at. The 3rd season is just finishing right now
Just recently watched Philippines again and thought it was hilarious how badly Abi sold the bag
I probably should have expected Vecepia, but usually I try to forget her.
Really happy with the number 1 pick! She doesn't get enough credit
My immediate top two thoughts were Yul Kwon and Ben Driesbergen!! But yet the list is great.
