In my younger years, I was struggling with addiction and had the opportunity to talk with Brent for a bit. The words that Brent spoke were nothing but pure and I genuinely feel like he played a big part in me accepting change and getting the help I needed. I have a feeling Chris was to Brent what Brent is to me, if that makes sense. Both incredible people with so much to offer to the world. I'm so grateful we have so much incredible music from Chris to remember him by and I'm so grateful we're still receiving absolute masterpieces from Brent to this day.
Those of us who have been in the circle of hell that is addiction know how much it means to have the understanding and support from another person who grasps what torment it truly is. It is loving and brave to share something so deeply personal. Thank you for sharing this.
Chris Cornell is really just all over the board, he can hit some low notes, and he can sing some insanely high notes as well... We lost a great artist on that day. He will not be forgotten! Rest in Peace to the late... The Great Chris Cornell.
I agree @aidaneckart5054, love to hear great artist talk good things about other great artist. It gives me a feeling that they care about each other and respect one another.
This video reminds me how much I'd LOVE for you to do more Chris Cornell reactions: whether that's Soundgarden, Audioslave, or solo material. Please react to more Chris. Your appreciation for his greatness as a singer is a joy to see.
Agree! Please more Chris Cornell. Would love to hear reactions to some of his solo work from Euphoria Morning or Carry On. Hell, would be interesting to hear opinions on the Scream album too since that material is so different than his other work.
It was after a show and I was lucky enough to get a moment to talk to Brent and I was one of those people who got to tell him, the band, the music they created and the message they tell saved me and then told them all thank you. He immediately got out of his seat, came and gave me a hug and thanked me for sharing and was genuinely appreciative of hearing that and of me being a fan. Music is the most important thing in the world. It is truly the only thing I have ever seen bring people of all faiths, colors, backgrounds together and all of the worlds problems just disappear for that evening and we are all just one big family. There is truly nothing else that can do that.
The passing of Chris Cornell really hit me hard. See, I met the man once (many years ago). It was at a house party in Seattle and we talked for a few moments, nothing really memorable in the conversation but Chris was magnetic, charismatic, and most importantly… himself. I miss hearing that splendid voice wailing out notes I couldn’t even try.
I was crushed when I heard Chris passed away. I was a huge fan of his ever since I was really young. He was just so talented and his voice graced the ears of thousands Never to be replicated.
I remember watching the original full interview and this is the part that stuck out for me as a massive Chris Cornell fan, with Brent describing perfectly what all of us lost in his passing and how his art affected us. I shed a tear again watching how emotional Brent was as he described the importance of Chris to him, just like I did when watching the full interview. Makes me an even bigger Brent Smith & Shinedown fan than I was before knowing Chris has an influence in their music.
When they first announced that he was gone,I was holding it together. Later that day when they said "took his own life", I just started bawling like a little kid.
Chris Cornell is my favorite voacalist/artist ever. And to this day, I've still not grieved his death as I thought i would because it still does't feel real because he passed at the age I'm almost at I first heard Chris when I was 17. Soundgarden and Chris changed me, my view on music and helped inspire me to pursue playing music even if im not good. #loudlove
I saw CC 2 yrs b4 his passing at the Uptown theater in Napa, California solo. He was amazing!!! He had an energy around him that was bright & beautiful! I along with everyone else there was mesmerized from his 1st note! He was kind, funny, gracious, humble & a master at singing, writing & composing!! He performed 2 & a half hours without a break & would have continued if not for a city ordinance about noise. I left that theater & was different & CCs passing affected me deeply. Like no other! Love from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains!
Thanks so much for telling this story, people need to hear how inspirational and impactful Chris Cornell was on so many people's lives and their own music and art.
Man I remember that day. I was brushing my teeth singing Hunger Strike in my head. When I came downstairs i turned on the radio and heard the news. I could not believe what I heard. Such a terrible loss.
I heard some Shinedown songs and really liked them. went to a concert and they were amazing. Brent came right up the aisle all the way to the back and was singing. He's right, he does care about the audience. It really showed that night. Great interview by the way

Also check out the Library Sessions and the Shinedown library were you can share your own personal story. They are the most down to earth band and try their best to be loving and helpful to all
I was reading about Chris’ death yesterday and Chester Bennington while listening to Temple of the Dog’s Hunger Strike. A super group that formed in 1990, which featured Chris Cornell. Very sad to hear about suicidal thoughts and how it impacts people. Rip Chris. What a legend.
Let me say that Chris Cornell was an absolute legend to make me feel and get through hard times. I saw Shinedown at the Tsongas Arena in Mass with their new look, and it blew me away. Hands down the best concert I've ever been too, and they are nothing but inspirational and legendary. One of the best days in my life without a doubt!
Man, I'm so sorry for your deep and immeasurable loss to the near and dear family and friends who got to know Chris Cornell as a person, a human being, as family, friend, and colleague, and band member and crew and artistic collaborators and teammates! He is one of a kind in his music and voice and moreso his being and artistry that he shared with us all in too brief a time and within it a world of music from an amazing human being to the world, to us! We miss him always! 🎉🎤 🎸 ☀️
I remember this affected Chester too, one of my friends went to see linkin Park around the time Chester died, she saw him in London one day and when she saw him in Canada the next he was dead. Chester never got over Chris passing and always let people know about how much Chris meant to him
This was the most emotionally impactful part of the interview for me. Great idea clipping it and putting it out there! The whole interview is excellent.

I had the honor of my band opening for Shinedown back in 2004 at Lost Horizon in Syracuse, NY. I briefly talked to Brent after our soundcheck, tbh he seemed a little out of it and I couldn't understand much of what he said. I met the guitarist at the time after the show, can't remember his name, but I don't think he's the current one. He was kind of a dick. Long story short, the girl he was chatting up at the bar went home with me. LOL When they finally went on, Brent OWNED that fucking stage. I had never seen anything like it at the time. Raw perfection. I still can't believe I was able to share the same stage. It was fucking amazing.
Year's ago my dad put up a poster piece of paper on a tree in front of the Rock102 station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and placed a marker next to it for everyone to pay respects to Chris Cornell. It was even on the radio station talking about it.
1st Lollapalooza in NY, Chris came out front into the audience. My friends were sitting in the back chilling and he just came up and sat down and chilled for a while.
Having grew up listening to Soundgarden and Audioslave, Chris' passing was a devastating blow. If you haven't yet, go listen to Toni Cornell's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U." I can't finish it without tearing up.

Shinedowns interaction with fans is unmatched the way they connect and involve the fans and make that personal connection is top notch.
Miss ya everyday Chris!
Really appreciate Brent putting it out there front and center for us all to hear!

Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington both going in two months of each other was and still is so heartbreaking and tragic.
I felt the same way about Chris. I went through this went kurt died, and when layne staley died. All giants from that era.
Such a glowing review of Chris Cornell 😢 by "Shinedowns Brent Smith"
