Now Japan has to survive and rebuild and gain allies to fight and prosper. Now all of Japan is the isekai protagonist.

I think there are anime that show cross overs between modern and isekai Esp LN and mangas But the problem is that they spend so much time on the isekai side that by the time there is the premise for interaction with modern world, its gonna be too far into the story.

So, good to see GATE being tackled here, and I do agree that it has a different kind of idea regarding Isekai that I personally enjoy. This anime is quite a guilty pleasure for me as it ends up being near modern-day, there's a reason for that, taking on sticks and stones, essentially. The author has served but I don't know if he's actually seen action or not, he has some knowledge regarding the inner workings of their military, so there'll be plenty of patriotism in this show, just kick back and enjoy the "JAPAN SUGOI" coming your way. Keep an eye out on the background dealings happening in the show, since I don't know exactly how far in you are yet, lot of political machinations.

I love GATE on the surface but if you think about it even slightly below that you see ALL the issues with it and how/why it was made. It's pure military recruitment fodder in Japan but dang if they didn't make a genuninely decent anime out of it. The whole "we're the purest, fairest, but still hardcore military" angle is some ish, but dang... love it
To anyone who enjoyed gate, I'd suggest a manga named "nihonkoku shoukan". Instead of an individual, the entirety of Japan got isekai-ed. It's focused more on japan politics instead of an individual mc tho. Nonetheless, the slaughter is just as fantastic.

I’ve realized that there exists an entire fan base for this IP online that despises the original works (manga/novels and the anime), and when I looked into why i discovered it was for good reason. The story actually manages to show the JSDF and it’s brass in a poorly managed and hypocritical light. They are portrayed as can-do-no-wrong saviors, and anything and everything completely works out for them 100% in their favor, and even go so far as to directly criticize and bash actions of other nations in other wars and then immediately subvert this criticism by doing the same exact things they tried to criticize. It’s all bullshit, and literally propaganda. The og writer is literally a Japanese ultra-nationalist. “America taking refugees let too many bad guys close to their troops. Taking refugees is a mistake, we won’t do that.” Proceeds to take refugees. “Trying to win over hearts and minds is something that in retrospect is unnecessary since we don’t plan on being here long.” Literally sets up a permanent base and invests into the shanty town that forms around it, all this after they started trying to win over hearts and minds. Also the fact that somehow Russian Spetznaz, Chinese SpecOps, and US SEALS didn’t even stand a chance against the jsdf special forces in that one spa episode. It’s all bullshit, the fan stories are way, way better. Leagues beyond.

i recommend: Arifureta hole class gets Isekaid like in So I'm a Spider, So What?, difference is they get summoned MC ends up in same situation as Kumoko cause he falls down in dungeon in to lower and more dangerous level, he comes out as totally different person there is Darkness type of char to in this, if u have seen Konosuba u know who i am talking about its not as good depending on who u ask, it was fun to watch

If you like modern military weapon vs fantasy creature and magic, you should definitely watch Zero no Tsukaima. One of the OG classic isekai, and one of my favorite
There is a novel about the US being transported into another world if anyone is interested in that. Its arguably more absurd then this as the literally nation in its entirety is transported to another world along with its fleets its people and even military bases outside of it, but everyone who wasn't part of the us was not brought with. Foreign diplomats were swapped with their American counterparts and the fleets were teleported to a few miles out from the shore, even the fucking satellites were teleported to the new world. Honestly I'm more interested in how the rest of earth would react to that, probably a belief thag the US was smited in its entirety with no one else even being harmed, only Americans disappeared and all foreign diplomats were teleported out of the us by some unknown force.
BDW if u sometimes want to listen each new OP once then to avoid strike 1dude used a voice changer for music, its was enough changed to avoid strike, with some animes there is no strike even if op is on video but some corps are more strict, just gave u idea if u ever get in to this type of a problem
The weapons they use in this series are old JSDF weapons, they are not M249s, AK47s, or any of the other weapons you guys mentioned. Starting with he Standard Issue rifle shown, they use the Howa type 64 which is a Japanese Design. Then the sidearm that would be shown later on is the Minebea P9. The gun you thought was the M249 is the Sumitomo MINIMI 5.56mm Machine Gun which is yet another Japanese belt fed machine gun. Most if not ALL of these weapons have already been replaced with more modern weapons since the JSDFs equipment wasn't that up to date at the time. EDIT: I rewatched the show, And I think, it seems the Government intentionally Issued Old equipment to Itami and the JSDF in the anime because if ever they were forced to retreat then they will just have to leave behind old Equipment instead of the Newer ones. It's better than the old weapons collecting dust in storage. I think the stuff they're using was issued around 2009.

I think you're thinking of "Outbreak Company". Similar concept where travel between both worlds is possible, only Outbreak Company portrays the Japanese government in a less patriotic/favorable light while focusing mostly on the characters in the new world and how they respond to the sudden introduction to Japanese culture.
As much as I love GATE as a whole, the first episode is such a bad introduction to Itami and the world in general xD they cut a lot of the heavy scenes from the manga and to fill the gaps they show off more of Itami in an excessive way. Just take a shot of tequila each time they state that Itami is an otaku in the first episode and you'll destroy your liver xD
This show is an underrated outlier, not saying it's perfect, but it is quite different from other Isekai shows, entertaining and enjoyable, with higher quality animations than Overlord (which isn't that hard to manage, but we all love Overlord nonetheless, don't we). Looking forward to the reactions to this one, Overlord and Slime are oversaturated in terms of reaction content on youtube anyways ;)

To anyone who enjoyed gate, I'd suggest a manga named "nihonkoku shoukan". Instead of an individual, the entirety of Japan got isekai-ed.
It's focused more on japan politics instead of an individual mc tho. Nonetheless, the slaughter is just as fantastic.

I’ve realized that there exists an entire fan base for this IP online that despises the original works (manga/novels and the anime), and when I looked into why i discovered it was for good reason. The story actually manages to show the JSDF and it’s brass in a poorly managed and hypocritical light. They are portrayed as can-do-no-wrong saviors, and anything and everything completely works out for them 100% in their favor, and even go so far as to directly criticize and bash actions of other nations in other wars and then immediately subvert this criticism by doing the same exact things they tried to criticize. It’s all bullshit, and literally propaganda. The og writer is literally a Japanese ultra-nationalist. “America taking refugees let too many bad guys close to their troops. Taking refugees is a mistake, we won’t do that.” Proceeds to take refugees. “Trying to win over hearts and minds is something that in retrospect is unnecessary since we don’t plan on being here long.” Literally sets up a permanent base and invests into the shanty town that forms around it, all this after they started trying to win over hearts and minds. Also the fact that somehow Russian Spetznaz, Chinese SpecOps, and US SEALS didn’t even stand a chance against the jsdf special forces in that one spa episode. It’s all bullshit, the fan stories are way, way better. Leagues beyond.

There is a novel about the US being transported into another world if anyone is interested in that. Its arguably more absurd then this as the literally nation in its entirety is transported to another world along with its fleets its people and even military bases outside of it, but everyone who wasn't part of the us was not brought with. Foreign diplomats were swapped with their American counterparts and the fleets were teleported to a few miles out from the shore, even the fucking satellites were teleported to the new world. Honestly I'm more interested in how the rest of earth would react to that, probably a belief thag the US was smited in its entirety with no one else even being harmed, only Americans disappeared and all foreign diplomats were teleported out of the us by some unknown force.

The weapons they use in this series are old JSDF weapons, they are not M249s, AK47s, or any of the other weapons you guys mentioned.
Starting with he Standard Issue rifle shown, they use the Howa type 64 which is a Japanese Design. Then the sidearm that would be shown later on is the Minebea P9.
The gun you thought was the M249 is the Sumitomo MINIMI 5.56mm Machine Gun which is yet another Japanese belt fed machine gun. Most if not ALL of these weapons have already been replaced with more modern weapons since the JSDFs equipment wasn't that up to date at the time.
EDIT: I rewatched the show, And I think, it seems the Government intentionally Issued Old equipment to Itami and the JSDF in the anime because if ever they were forced to retreat then they will just have to leave behind old Equipment instead of the Newer ones. It's better than the old weapons collecting dust in storage. I think the stuff they're using was issued around 2009.
I wish this anime was better than it is, but the ending stuff is worth waiting for.

I think you're thinking of "Outbreak Company". Similar concept where travel between both worlds is possible, only Outbreak Company portrays the Japanese government in a less patriotic/favorable light while focusing mostly on the characters in the new world and how they respond to the sudden introduction to Japanese culture.

As much as I love GATE as a whole, the first episode is such a bad introduction to Itami and the world in general xD they cut a lot of the heavy scenes from the manga and to fill the gaps they show off more of Itami in an excessive way. Just take a shot of tequila each time they state that Itami is an otaku in the first episode and you'll destroy your liver xD
This show is an underrated outlier, not saying it's perfect, but it is quite different from other Isekai shows, entertaining and enjoyable, with higher quality animations than Overlord (which isn't that hard to manage, but we all love Overlord nonetheless, don't we).
Looking forward to the reactions to this one, Overlord and Slime are oversaturated in terms of reaction content on youtube anyways ;)

Overall this anime is pretty mid story and characters wise imo, but the cool scenes of magic armies against modern armies make it worth it
