I realize when I watch this that I really cared what happened to the people on ER. This is a testament to the writers of the show, but especially to the extent to which Noah Wyle and Maura Tierney inhabited their characters. Their ability to communicate human emotion so realistically, even when they were not speaking, was phenomenal.
But its still too bad that those writers didnt really appreciate that chemistry what they (noah and maura) had because they broke them up so soon and for what there was no point on that! They really would have deserved a better ending together! I think it was very unCarter like behavior to leave Abby like that, he had a crush on Abby for two years and then when they finally got together Carter to dump her up in a letter and then soon after that show up with some other chick, there was just no point no point at all! Okey Abby got the second best guy for him good that even her got some how "happy end" even thou I never ever can accept Luka and Abby as a couple maybe only if Carter would have died! And then give Carter so grappy wife who doesnt want to be with him! I wish Abby and Carter would have gotten their reunion even as a friends in the end! But well maybe I shouldnt judge cos havent actually even seen any of it after Carter left the show wasnt really any interesting at all even thou I really liked Abby too maybe this time I tried to watch it hole but still I cant yet cos the season 10 beginning is so sad to me when they break up :(
@@japrillers2824 I think the same way you do. The way things turned out left many people unsatisfied. I have to confess that I did not watch every single show in this franchise but when I saw this scene I make a mental note to get a hold of the last few seasons. Now the problem is: when do I find the time to watch them? I have a regular job and usually work overtime on special projects.
@@rr7firefly Thanks for your replay :) Im in crisis cos there isnt any place where I can talk about my annoyment about this how horribly they broke up Carter and Abby, cos I think there isnt any active fanpage anymore cos it so old show. Like few years ago I could trash Greys screw ups on twitter or instagram or fanpage. Now when I did some googling I found this kind of story about Carter and Abby: See, what people don't know/understand is that Carter & Abby were created as the OTP by one of the show's executive producers - Jack Orman. The character of Abby, in and of herself, was created specifically to be Carter's endgame romance. THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT! But right around the time when Carter chickened out on the proposal, Jack Orman and John Wells fell into a nasty battle over creative direction of the show. Wells wanted to send Carter off to Africa and do this whole self-exploration arc that involved him "finding himself" and, in the process, completely breaking Abby's heart and becoming unrecognizable to his fans. Orman, protective of what he had spent years creating and building, eventually threw up his hands and walked away. No, literally, he quit his job and left the show. " It is just like Krista Vernoff ruined Jackson and April on Greys, this is kinda like the same story. :( So sad that those writers can destroy something good as fast as in couple of episodes. Im not really sure do I have much respect anymore for these writers. Or maybe the truth just is that there should be any show wich last more than 10 seasons cos it seems that pretty much after that the quality goes down. :( Well in Greys it was maybe after 12 seasons.
@@rr7firefly and well still adding to that the hole africa storyline sucked pretty badly. But well if you have seen the earlier seasons which one could you recommend to me?
@@japrillers2824 I was never a regular viewer (I don't usually follow series from week to week) but I know that the first eight seasons had very high ratings and viewers. My interest in the show is due to the characters John Carter (Noah Wyle), Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney), Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) and Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes). For me other characters were okay but nothing special. That is just my personal preference.
Love? Really? Love is loving someone despite their flaws not trying to mold them to be good enough for them. Abby never loved Carter and Carter only loved the idea of Abby he had in his head of her and that Abby didn’t exist. He loved a dream and it’s not reality. Abby told Carter you don’t want me to love you. If Carter truly loved Abby for who she is then he’d see no reason to change her to take Abby as who she was not for hoping she’d change. Carby was unhealthy.
carter was disappointed period that Abby wouldn’t live up to this perfect version of Abby inside his head. He said it from the start he wanted to fix her so she’d be good enough for him. He finally realized she wasn’t going to be that person the night he was going to propose but changed his mind. Abby told the truth in this scene no matter what she did she felt like it was never good enough for him. Carter couldn’t the one thing Abby needed the most, love her despite her flaws for the person she is. Luka could do that.
It good and sad at the same the same time. I really wish it could have been them. Too bad they weren't good for each other. Really wish they could have been.
I think that they were perfect for each other it just seems like they didnt cos the writers blow it up be making Carter weird in the end of season nine it was very out character to Carter to leave Abby like that and find someone else so fast it was not Carter it was just those writers who messed it up so sad :(
@@japrillers2824 So glad u said that.....Carter was head over heels for Abby for 2 yrs....Even waiting around for her to dump Luka.....The way he left her was NOT consistent with who Cater was...I we offended actually
@@japrillers2824 the actor left the show and they had to break them up, but they could have done something that wasn't so terrible. And no one knew the actor would be back.
I sure as hell wouldn’t want a relationship with someone who feels they need to fix me so I live up to their expectations. When you truly love someone you love them for who they are flaws and all never trying to change them. John was more of trying to be Abbys sponsor more than a boyfriend and you can love someone without being in love with someone. John loved the idea of the Abby he wanted in his head. However Abby didn’t love Carter I could tell that, who goes through a relationship thinking they’re always gonna disappoint their boyfriend. Carter was never in love with Abby, if he truly was then what Maggie said would of never phased him and he’d accept Abby for who she flaws and all just as Maggie said. Carter couldn’t do that. Luka could, he had no expectations on her he loved her flaws and all. Carter and Abby were good friends but the romance isn’t there. They were not on the same page snd it was clear the moment they got together in first episode of season 9. Someone trying to mold someone so they’re good enough for someone else is a huge turn off.
They really would have deserved so much better ending they were the best couple on the show only reason why I watched the show those some years! Oh Carter and Abby you are breaking my heart :(
That hole Carter in Africa storyline stucked really badly, it was really out of character from Carter to dump Abby like that and leave to Africa! That was just bad writing to me! :(
These two were doomed from the start. Abby has chaos in her life without Carter's possessiveness muddying the water even further. If they had become a permanent or long-term thing, Carter would have done better by Abby than Abby would have done by Carter.
Abby and carter confused a friendship bond over their addictions for romance. All carter ever wanted to do was try to fix Abby and she always felt she was disappointing him that’s not love or a relationship. you can love someone as a friend and both did. However Abby and Luka were a much better match. Luka wasn’t about trying to fix her he just loved her for her and which is why they ended up back together married with their son. I got such a kick out of how carter asked about Abby and Luka in last few episodes of Er and when Sam told him they were good living it up in Boston carter replied with a sarcastic great.
Boy Carter went out of his way to undermine Luby the first time around because he just had to have Abby only when he did get her his intentions for them because very clear in the chaos theory in season 9, it was all about molding her into the person he felt was good enough for him. Fix her. Even Abby was turned off by his comment of fix me so I’m good enough. Should of been a huge red flag right there but she knew it was doomed from the start I was even more amused when she told Luka that. It’s like so all that undermining Luby I was for nothing just so Carter can realize Oooh oops she’s not who I really want since she won’t live up to my expectations and then drop her like a hot potato for Africa. Maggie was right about one thing, she told Carter Abby is amazing person even with her weaknesses but he has to love her with those even if she never changes. Carter couldn’t do that. Luka could. Luka didn’t treat her like a sponsor nor expect her to live up to what felt was right. He just loved her and wanted her. Which is why they found each other again.
Something about the way she embraces him. He was special to her. Like she would never let go. I don't care what anyone says - Luka was Abby's 2nd choice.
