Seeing the specs on the Netcom. That's essentially an embedded Mac IIci circa 1989 approximately. And how cool is it that runs independently from the rest of the Paintbox. Amazing.

I remember networking the Editbox to the facility's network and sending it tga sequences from my after effects/3ds renders to it. Took absolutely ages over 10base-T. I can't remember what software I was using though.

Did you investigate what protocol is being used over ethernet? Did Quantel adapt something or did they invent bespoke solution? Maybe there is an easy way of implementing network drive sharing part of the Netcom.

Good grief Quantel went all out with everything they did. I have to admire that. It must have been an engineers dream to design for them.

I was a bit surprised that it uses file numbers instead of names even under FTP, but I guess it was because it was designed for Quantel machines first?

yes, all Quantel AFS disks use file numbers in the format of .. . Every time a file is saved the generation number increases. The actual file title, date stamps and other meta data are stored in a header in the file itself.
