  • I shot a Pig, I lost him in the jungle, got my Jeep window smashed and all my gear stolen. Great Trip.... I love you Hawaii but DAMMMM.
I head into Oahu's Pali Hunting Unit (public land) for my 12th consecutive sit in a bare tree with no shooters. After weeks of scouting and prepping it all went wrong in one 24 hour period following my single shot on a good size boar.
    Backstory-
I live on Oahu 6 months out of the year and decided to take the Public Land Challenge. The locals will tell you they have a difficult time shooting or even seeing the pigs as the pressure has turned them nocturnal (with the exception of Sow and Piglets). Some locals have hunted bow for ten years and only taken 1 pig in that time. I had hunts blown because poachers running dogs in archery-only zones. They decimate the population and run the pigs off the public land, turning them 100% nocturnal. This is not Aloha/Pono, my friend.
I was lucky enough to see a number of mid sized pigs, take my shot on one and now the story unfolds. There are some big lessons learned on tactics, gear, parking and hunting plots. I will have another video detailing Public Vs. Private land hunting in Hawaii. The details in the coming video include; all the essentials, details Locals will not share, and my own hard earned experience as a "Main-Lander" turned local.
Please leave your thoughts and comments on what you think of the moments after the theft. Was I crazy to feel they were sketchy? Did I do the right thing by walking away?
Up Next... will be posting a hunt on Maui where I had unique access to a large private land plot where there were 3 large boars coming to feed nightly. Shots fired.
maybe some Axis Deer in the Winter of 2019-2020 on Molokai, Lanai and Maui
I also have black bear coming up in just weeks, doe season in the months coming and plenty of walleye, pike and landlocked salmon fishing on Baskatong Lake, Quebec. Stay tuned for more exciting hunting and fishing adventures.

Yo Ben, lighten up man. I hunt here year round, who are you? This guy is showing respect, you are definitely not.
The respect he showed those lying peeps was undeniable. Me? I wouldn’t have sat in my car personally if someone stole
my bow. But that’s the way I roll.

Hi Brad, Thanks for the comment, support and watch. It was hard to resist the urge to do "more" about the situation. I like your style though. Stay tuned for some Molokai action this fall.

You could hunt big practically any bush on Oahu. Pigs run ramped in this place

So if you were on public land in Canada and saw a bear set you would just sit off to the side, cause it is public land? IF you left me a note, where did you put it? Just on a random tree expecting me to see it or the piece of wood that acts as a seat? You always post everyone else's spot with locations on TH-cam? Some brotherhood....... Good luck on launching your hunting gear pal. What would your note have said? Can I hunt here mon, weds, fri? And you get the rest of the days?

      Hi Ben,
These are all great questions. I left the note on the feeder. I noticed there was corn inside but no batteries and hoped the days you came you would check the feeder or maybe shoot corn and see it. I doubt I am the only other person to touch this spot. I never saw anything resembling a seat in that tree. You did pick a great tree. Beautiful shape, perfect height and a great spot. You have a good eye for shooting lanes and wallow areas right outside their comfort zones. If it ever happened where we spoke, I would ask to share and let you have some of the special places I was hunting in other spots to diversify. I have a guy with private land in Maui with some shooters and he is a great contact. Near Zone B off Hana road. I can share that with you as well while I am back here in Canada.
As far as posting your spot online, you should maybe feel proud. You did a great job. If I knew who made it I would give props. It is more to show people who are interested in coming to hunt what it looks like, what to expect and maybe give some tips on what works without breaking the bank on ground blinds and things that don't work.
I honestly run into bear baiting spot here all the time. Same with deer stands. Yesterday in the woods I found chained barrels and old buckets that haven't been touched in what seems like a long time on a perfect spot near a beaver dam. They even had a massive tree stand hand built with plywood. It's customary to ask around leave notes and share locations here... if you ask. The problem is people come, make a stand, leave their gear and often never come back leaving all their stuff to rot and litter. If I find nobody went to this spot this year... it is perfectly reasonable to set up nearby (not inside or using their tools, buckets and bait). It would be better than me cutting up more untouched woods and spreading out like a cancer in the woods. If all the hunters had a "spot" on public land it would be scary haha.
If you want to PM me sometime on ideas how I can help people in the future to pick a spot and be political and kind in Hawaii that would be helpful. It's an island where competition for space and feeling squeezed is a problem. I know some locals despise everyone hunting that is not born and raised. We both know there are enough pigs to go around but you have to be creative and invest a lot of time. I think this may be one reason you felt cheated when you saw me in a tree you used before. I know you spent some good time setting that up, props. I spent weeks walking those dam hills and fingers on the Honolulu side of the Pali as well as up near the falls on the windward side. At the end of the day being near the road made the most sense (as you probably found). You may think I am being snark.... but I appreciate the comments and see where you are coming from.

1 mistake-hunting someone else's feeder (how do I know, cause it is mine)
2nd mistake- sitting in my tree stand
3rd mistake- driving around blaming other people
Maybe its karma you got your window broke!! Good for you. Hope you learn how to better respect other people and other people's property. Hope I never find you in my stand! Stay in Canada. Everyone knows dont hunt other people stands/feeders. Go back to preschool and learn the basics. Save your sad story for people who care. Have some respect.

      Hi Ben,
Thanks for the comment and advice. I respected your opinion and wanted to let you know I never used your feeder. I used fruit and placed it myself. Also, if public land was called "dibs" by every hunter there would be nowhere to hunt.
I simply climbed a tree and sat in a limb. Thats not exactly a tree stand, is it? Ben, did you build the tree? There was no structure, no nails no wood or anything but bare tree. You know as well as I do that there are thousands of old feeders, stands and flags marking hunting spots. Does that mean I give up and don't get to hunt like everyone else? I know one thing, public land is not any one persons personal hunting spot. I did what I could to respect "your" feeder, and "your" spot. I went to this spot numbers time leaving notes with phone numbers and even driving by on days to see if there was a hunter to ask to make sure we didn't cross paths or even coordinate and get advice. To be fair, this big old tree is less that 25 yards from the Old Pali road... so close that you throw a rock to the asphalt... not some super secret hunting spot... it is also at the trail heads for all the hikes up into the falls and ruins. I think this speaks even more to the fact that it's everyones place to enjoy.
What do you suggest for someone coming into to hunt and have the experience of hunting Hawaii?... Don't use any trails with flags... when you see a good spot that has been used, run away...and pretend its all private "owned" and we are not welcome?
I get where you are coming from but this mentality of "mine" is why Hawaii has been having so many issues with overdevelopment, pollution and destruction of the land. I would like to see how you feel about cooperating and sharing the wild jungle in public places.
If you feel wronged, I am truly sorry but I didn't disturb anything besides sitting on a branch in a tree that nobody owns. There has to be some brotherhood and understanding when people leave a "set-up" (non operation feeder) in the woods. There was an old feeder hanging that was not shooting corn... I brought my own food, sat in a bare tree, and even extended my info.
I am sorry you feel this way.

      Hey Ben,
Reading your comments on this video literally made me dumber. Congrats on being an asshole.

So you are saying you climbed all the way into the tree...untied the anchor rope, lowered the feeder with Corn in it, unscrewed the bottom, inspected to see if there were no batteries, opened cover to check for corn, and pulled it back up to tie it off solo? ....c'mon bro, let's keep it real. Again, how do I know this? Because it's my feeder. There was never a time there were no batteries in it. Good story tho.

I can reach the bottom. It had no batteries. Not that complicated. Like I said... I’m not the only guy in the woods. When I was there it was not operational and the compartment had zero batteries. Not dead batteries or some batteries but zero batteries. Trust me I checked. It was only 6.5 feet off the ground when I was in there.

@@rough-cutoutdoors4335 your karma got you. Posting this guy location is a straight dick head move. Any hunter knows this. It’s one thing to sit in a man blind and hunt it but when you show people location you’re a fucking asshole and glad someone ripped you off because you deserve it. Stay in Canada and hunt you prick

    • @rough-cutoutdoors4335

What are you talking about showing someone’s location? Those are my locations and on a public hunting area where there is hundreds of old busted stands and dead empty feeders. You’re not hunting on Oahu so I assume you don’t know what you’re talking about. If you knew the spot you would know it’s blown out and over hunted. You’ll get your karma for being an asshole. Good luck.

Oh and feel free to tell me when you see a blind anywhere in the video. There is no blind or stand. I assume you know what a blind is and what a setup looks like. Nothing here was in use for quite a long time and there was no working feeder or feeding either. I was also right on the road so it’s a not a secret spot by any means. I can understand why you are overprotective about Hawaii but this is not one of those times to spout off. I have just as much respect as you do.
