- The focus of Military Images magazine has always been Civil War photography. These videos showcase, interpret and preserve the portraits of soldiers, sailors and other participants of the Civil War generation. In this episode, we look at another participant-a war artist-and his contribution to the way we visualize the war.
"Life on the Civil War Research Trail" is hosted by Ronald S. Coddington, Editor and Publisher of Military Images magazine. Learn more about our mission to showcase, interpret and preserve Civil War portrait photography at militaryimagesmagazine.com and shopmilitaryimages.com.

His Wilderness fire sketch is something else!
Really nice work thanx.
I wonder who did the artwork for the American Civil War card collection from the mid 60's. As a child in Ireland I collected them and I still have them! They contributed to my obsession with the Civil War which continues almost 60 years later. I love these personal tales Ron. Keep 'em coming. Visited Gettysburg for the 2nd time last year (from Ireland)
You left Ireland and came here, wow
@@briantaylor7307 I stil live in Dublin in Ireland Brian. I've had many vacation trips to the US over the years. Re Civil War..... Over a 30 year period I've visited Stones River, Vicksburg, Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry and Richmond.
I appreciate the work you put into these videos. I look forward to them, and I really enjoy them. Thank you!
Thanks for another fantastic history. I have some scenes of Savannah he did and now I know about the artist.
I did not recognize this man until I saw his third image I still did not know his name but I knew his face 👍🍀🍀🍀
I truly enjoy these and look forward to each days episode.
Fantastic work Ron thank you I don't know if it's true or not but after coal harbour they said that's the only time they saw general Grant cry I have read he always regretted that second charge???
Love his sketches
Waud illustrations remind of Joseph Crowes work in the Crimean war & sepoy mutiny for the London illustrated newd. I'm wondering if he was influenced by him.
Were there sketch artists who traveled with the southern army I wonder?
