I have talked world wide in the last 5 years on my dub-bazooka. I use a 300ohm Tv flat line on the ends of mine that has made it even more broad band. It sometimes will talk DX when my vertical and 4EL can't get out. I tell people don't expect to talk local on it lol. It is between two trees about 18' off the ground.

Thanks for the video. I’m getting ready to put up an Radiowavz 11 meter double bazooka antenna. It too will be going up inside of my garage attic. I do have a couple questions if you don’t mind please.
My plan is to hang it from the peak in an inverted V configuration. The legs that will be coming down on an angle, can those be attached to the rafters on each side? Or does it produce too much heat to be directly attached to the wood? Also is the angle important? I’ve read they should be 90-120 degrees? Last question. If you need to tune this. Can you fold the wire back over itself to make each side shorter? Or do you cut it to shorten it? Thank you.

Great videos, Mark. Wouldn't be surprised if I heard you on the radio at some point in time down here in the Ocean City area. Man I'm stoked to try out this double bazooka design. Just made a regular dipole I'm gonna try out in the attic. If all goes well, then I'll be trying out this design to compare results. It really is ingenious. Looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for sharing!

I have the same for a couple of years on my balcony. 11 meter but works up to 10 meters. I also have one for 40 meters. Both work excellent.

Hello, your work is very nice, what I want to ask is what happens if there is no tail section left at the ends, is there any harm in adjusting the SWR ti by folding or cutting the ends and soldering them again?

Awesome Mark, I'm the same. Been using similar wire type antennas for years with my scanners.. I used to have shop bought poles ages ago when I was into CB radio but once they rotted through I never bothered again. So the loft then became home for my coax specials :)
    Cheers mate

I had some neighbour troubles back when we bought the house.
I lucked out because I did not finish getting the feedlines brought in before the 'your causing my TV to go out' complaints started.
Just a matter of taking them around to the deck in the back garden where they were spooled up and just hanging there.
I was putting in some conduit at the time so I could add and remove feedlines as needed and just did not finish it.
So.. wires out of sight and out of mind is also good for relations with the neighbours. :)

Amazing what you can do for very little money isn't it. I'm a big fan of wire antennas. Been using them for years.

I also like them because they are easy to conceal.
The Antron 99 sticking up in the air is kind of obvious.
I still have a 2 meter/70cm vertical up back there but that's a lot easier to hide too.
There isn't much more than a wire inside your fiberglass antennas anyway.

I built a normal 11m dipole outside recently and I hooked it up and thought something was wrong cause there was no static like with my firestik on the truck. Have tested transmit but it was very clear on recieve.

I got the one made by Radiowavz and sold by GigaParts. I set it up in my condo. I tried every which way. Horizontal, inverted V, L shaped, sloped (like the directions suggested) and even outside on my deck. I couldn't get an SWR reading below 4. What's the trick? Is it the cheap RG-8x cable I'm using from the radio? Is it because the antenna is secured to a wall or ceiling?

@Radio Hurricane It's made for indoor use.

You are a good guy. There are lots of old myths about antennas, that simply are not true. On the 11 or 10 meter (ham) bands a plain old dipole is super broadbanded. Be careful, don't transmit into a piece of coax without a load on it. Save that rig. Just trying to help.

Hello, Thank you for this video, I made this antenna, but I would like to know if we use it vertically or horizontally. In fact, horizontally I can't get A TOS less than 2. Thanks for your reply, 73 and stay safe, Alex

Thanks Mark, gonna build me a double bazooka :) i have 1000' of rg58 LOL now i have something to use it on Sweet! Thanks again Mark, very cool!

Make sure it has no foil. That's about the only thing that can cause issues.
      Most 58 didn't have a foil anyway.
I was in the same boat - I had 1000' of the stuff that was from the 10Base2 days.

Thank you for this video. I am getting ready to construct one of these today, and my search led me to this video. I plan on enclosing mine in a piece of 3/4 PVC and u bolting it to my tower, 34" in the air but under my Antron 99. I am not sure if this is a good idea being up against a metal tower or not. This is my first self made antenna

A short piece of cable should show almost infinite swr. The fact that your cb set showed only 2.5:1 means EITHER your cable has huge loss (like it had water in it) or your swr meter is horribly incorrect. The fact your swr meter shows low swr explains why your bazooka appears to be broadbanded. K3DAV does not understand antenna theory. he is very misinformed and propagates myths.
If you make antenna out of a simple piece of wire you will see the same performance.

    • @Mark19960
      @Mark19960  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't know the gentleman so I cannot speak to that.
The antenna was laying on the floor so it was hardly a decent measurement.
I have actually never found an SWR meter built into a radio to be that much off a decent external meter - that is unless a golden screwdriver went inside and starting turning things.
As far as what's better I would leave that particular one to people that are more knowledgeable about antennas than I am. Perhaps write something up on the subject if that person is you?

You transmitted into a coiled up antenna lying on the floor?
    You just lost all credibility.
