- The living room flooring project is finally done! I am quite happy with the result and the way it turned out.
Now on to the next cabin building project.

Lordy sister, you have done so much hard work! Congrats on getting that half log beam out and cutting it by hand! I think Miss snow wants to help, but she keeps looking at it and evaluating the situation, and I think she thinks that you are doing so good without help that you have become entertainment!

Use that area under the stairs to build a closet for storage, and that way, you can hide the vertical supports for the stairway within the closet!!!! I really like your house and great job dear.
😎🤔 I think that area underneath stairs would be a perfect place for wine rack, or even a nice place for the dogs to have their own little cubby space to sleep in it would also make a great place for a bookcase👍✌️

Maybe some shelves across the front made from beautiful red cedar or stained to match the floor. It would be open to show the beauty of the back wall. Maybe a cap on top self to back wall to set some of your bigger beautiful things on. I know how important it is to use your space. The house I built is 860 sq. ft. So we have to use our space wisely.
It's no luck; it's pure craftsmanship. 👍
Another option is to attach supporting beams of the stairs to the ceiling beams and have more free floor space.

Yay! You did it! Under the stairs library or reading nook, meditation space, or clothing/linen storage. Pinterest is good for inspiring ideas. I have fur from dogs who have passed and my last dog gives me wonderful white fur. There was a company in the US who used to spin dog fur, but they closed. I did get some yarn spun from them before they closed, and a friend's mom knitted it into a little purse. Kimber's fur looks nice - You could wash a handful of it inside a nylon stocking too and then see if you can felt it - it looks like you could, or mix it with natural sheep's wool if it won't hold together on it's own.

You could do some type of shelving under the stairs for extra storage or plants/books
As for what you are thinking for under the stairs since you have a mirror mounted on the wall there and may not want to cover it up
You could do a wine rack since I noticed the wine bottles on the floor
Or create a book shelf for all of your books
Maybe a combination of a wine rack and book shelf and touch it up in a crafty art flair style somewhere along those lines
Keep up the great work you are doing on your cabin and living the nature life

Floor looks great Lisette. I have a tool I will send you to make your finish work easier. Love all the left-over fur, make a sweater. Under stair storage for things did not need every day, or a reading area comfy chair and bookcases wine is already available. Everything is looking great, scratches and belly rubs for the fur kids.
You could simply add a pair of 2x8’s to the bottom of the stair horse with at each end of the rail and only loose a few inches of headroom instead of having a vertical post blocking the center of the area.
By the way, I’d be happy to take a little vacation time to come and help out for a few days.
Clearly MS Snow thought it was wine time. As for under the stairs? Well storage comes to mind. Close/linen closet. Even if it is not enclosed. Dog hang out. OH and I am Not surprised it fit. You can do the maths on cords of wood and wood burn times! lol

your so lucky to have floor boards so wide. For us in Australia this was only possible in the colonial years. A hundred years ago. Now you never see it in any construction. I suppose hardwood timber has become so exspensive and you cant use softwood as the white abt will eat it in a year or so
