every swans fan knows these commentary gems off by heart "doesn't make it easy for O'Keefe, but he's got the ball on a string" "lady luck is smiling... and the swans are steaming forward" "we're seeing will prevail over logic" "this has come from no where... steady as the rock of Gibraltar the swans" "annnd...bullsye" "oh what a night" "the swans will have another crack at it next week" and my favourite "montagna looks like he's on a an ice skating rink"
I don't know if you recall...but Schneider made a tackle in the semi final the week before (against the Cats) where he had to get from forward pocket to half back flank to cover an open Cats player...he got there in the nick of time saving the goal that would have lost them the game. Unsung hero of 2005.
Great call by Tim Lane for that last Schneider goal. A good commentator will call a play that regardless of who you support really drives home the enormity of the context of the situation for both teams, for better or worse (the latter for myself as a St Kilda supporter).
Im a Geelong supporter but Sydney winning the grand final in 2005 was remarkable. It just proved what a great side they were to go through 3 hard finals and then a grand final to come out on top.
What a shattering last quarter for the Saints fans. Just a grisly and grim spectacle. Top marks to the Swannies of course but I can't imagine sitting through that as a fan (Geelong supporter BTW)
0:53 "Back from the dead last week. They are climbing out of the grave again. And here go the Swans." I miss Tim Lane's calls, and Dennis too for that matter.
In the Swans coaching box that night was Ross Lyon, who four years later would take St Kilda to the Grand Final, and then another four years later with Fremantle.
What a fantastic finals series the Swans put on in 2005, destiny was on our side. Such a pity that the tainted West Coast Eagles stole the 2006 flag as it should have been 2 in a row!
Because they were both really inconsistent while at the Swans! Schneider would often miss absolute sitters for goal. I thought Dempster had a lot of upside, but we brought in Mattner in same year, which proved to be a great move. Good to see that both Schneider and Dempster have developed into important players for the Saints!
True, but they both were solid players. I guess it was a case of being a better fit for another club much in the same way we recycled Richards, Craig bolton, Paul Williams. Dempster is in all australian form and Schneider rekindled. Poor schneids played in 5 grand finals and won just 1! We've been unlucky in the forward department losing guys like Davis, Bradshaw we need a key forward like cloke or tippett
Schneider because he wanted to go back to Melbourne to live and I guess dempster was just part of the trade as he was a fringe player when we traded him

I have watched this 1000 times and could watch it another 1000 more! Thanks so much for posting it!
I fucking love this club.

Arguably the best last quarter of football I've ever seen! Go swans !

^ Surely you haven't forgotten the week before? Nicccckkkk Davvviiss
I'd rather forget it but that was what 10 minutes he got those goals
I remember how satisfying it was to watch this last quarter....

And he lost both of them

Ryan okeefe was a superstar best half forward midfielder in the game at this period sensational player
Schneider's best game for the Swans!
The Nick Davis game vs Geelong, this vs St Kilda, and the Leo Barry Mark in the Grand Final. What a finals series...

one of the best purple patches from the Swans!

Amazing Nick 🦢🦢🦢
Buchanan was everywhere too..... underrated in 05 for sure!

5 years later ball and jolly are collingwood premiership players:)

I know and it was against the team he plays for now GO SAINTS
seriously why did we get rid of Schneider and Dempster
yeah, but at least sydney are on a streak, lets hope nm dont embarrass them
What the hell do they mean it came out of nowhere? It's on the first page of the Swans handbookl; let them win the first 3 quarters.
sam reid will hopefully develop into a key foward
I think I know now why St.Kilda recruited Adam Schneider.
Schneider Man!!!!
i remember this game st kilda had the better talent but Sydney well coached
"A crumbed goal not something you see a lot with this Sydney team."
Uhh..
Ah when st kinda was good
Ah when st Kilda were good
