I love how you describe so many ridiculous clips and glitches in Odyssey and then call freaking MOON CAVE SKIP the hardest jump in the game. It took me all of 20 minutes to learn. Still a great video though :)
@@Copycat_YT funny how you say LuMar Eclipse instead of Moon Skip, Lunar Eclipse is the hardest version of Moon Skip and was one of the master trickjumps, that's why you probably got those mixed up.
@@Copycat_YT For cave skip there's no precise timing or inconsistencies, all you have to do is ground pound wait till the max height, cap jump, line yourself up using the textures on the wall, wall kick, wall kick and your home free. Other than this and something about snow dram making it faster to get back to the Odyssey you nailed the highlights of the run
Critiques I have with this video: 1:26 0.35 seconds, not milliseconds. 2:08 8-4 is not the last place you can save time, as FPG is used in 4-1 and 8-3 as well. Not to mention you forgot to talk about BBG (Bullet Bill Glitch) in 8-2 and 4-2 blazit. You also didn't even explain how FPG or 1-2G are preformed, you just said they existed and speedrunners did them. 2:28 May I ask why you aren't talking about the Japanese SMB2 here? If you're going in order from release, SMB2J would come before SMB2U. 2:56 Why aren't you explaining why speedrunners use a Shy Guy in the Birdo fight? That would probably be useful info to people so they don't seem confused. Same goes for why the floor clip happens, and how Toad double jumped. 3:00 That isn't a warp pipe lol. 3:11 You should have shown what a perfect 4-1 would have looked like so viewers can have something to compare to. 3:37 That's not even really a glitch, it's just how the game preforms. It's a ladder jump, where you have a few frames to time a jump of a ladder, chain, etc. and since there's no big ceiling at the top you are able to walk over to Birdo. You don't even sky rocket, it's the same height as any normal jump. 3:50 You never explained why runners use Toad in the first place. I'll do it for you, he is the fastest character and while holding an item he has the highest speed. 4:08 Why completely gloss over 1-2? There's a P Speed trick you can do in that level to get P Speed earlier than most people. 4:42 Putting the Koopa shells into different places does not cause that pipe glitch. It causes the wrong warp, which happens right afterwards. In fact, you can do that sort of pipe glitch in any level that has a pipe like that, even sideways ones. 5:34 Explain why the wall clip happens. Here, I'll do it for you: by not running on the ground when you enter that room and then holding B while landing on the first pixel of the Question Block you manipulate Mario's subpixels to be able to clip into the wall by pressing left and pressing A two times, and running forwards. What I don't understand is why this isn't shown in 4-2 of SMB1 in the video. 5:44 Completely skipping over everything again okay. 5:49 Explain the Koopa jump and why it gives you that height. That isn't in normal gameplay, as you usually take the hidden blocks to the top. 5:55 "Which for some reason" really doing this game's justice. 6:14 He can save time in every single place in 8-4. Watch the fastest 8-4 IL WR on the Category Extension page for this game. 7:00 What I don't understand is that you explained this pretty well and really fast too. Why couldn't you do this for all the other ones? I understand this is only about 1 minute speedrun, but even then it was explained good enough while most the other runs weren't explained very well at all. 7:37 That's not an invisible wall, and that isn't the last level of the game. Have you played SM64 before? Because I've only ever done it casually for the most part and even I knew this. 7:47 THAT'S IT?? You're not even going to talk about ANY other level? This game has so much more than just that. 8:48 Overall barely any explaining I'm getting tired of watching this let's just move on. 9:02 It's for the same reason as any other speedrun, sanctification of completing a run and self-improvement. 9:53 The WR is 24:28 by Fade, the 24:29 is outdated. 10:04 "Certain platforming techniques" as you show someone brushing against a block in 5-T. 10:20 556 was not newly discovered. It has been known for years. 10:53 You can practice using a completed save file. 10:59 Fade did make mistakes though, that's how he improved his time to a 24:28. 11:38 You didn't even talk about anything you basically just said "it's hard and nemi did it in under 3 hours" and left it at that. 11:43 That's the NSMBUDX title screen, not the NSMBU title screen. 11:50 The skip is in 1-2, not 1-5. 11:53 I guess you could consider that 5-5, but that's more 5-GH. GH = Ghost House. 12:15 Skipping NSLU? It's technically a part of the Mario series, but alright. 13:09 The Wii U isn't to blame for the failure of why many people haven't ran the game, it's likely just not a fun speedgame. Also you explained nothing about the tricks, only a bit of the routing, which is boring. 16:05 Moon skip is not one of the hardest tricks. 16:16 He did makes mistakes though, Mitch's SOB is 57:59.9. That's quite a bit of timesave. 16:29 Well I mean, you COULD have gone into detail, you just chose not to. Overall, this was very lazily put together, and from a speedrunner's perspective you should have explained how each trick functioned rather than just leaving it at "you do this then this happens." I hope you can use this to help further improve your content, as my intentions were not to criticize you as a person, but to criticize the lack of explanation and knowledge throughout the whole video.

Summoning salt really got us spoiled for setting highly researched and accurate speed running videos as the standard. Rip to the years of work put into running sm64
In SMB1 Speedruns, wall clips are oftentimes used to save time. Flagpole Glitch and Bullet Bill Glitch(8-2 in the any% Speedrun) are examples of wall clips, except you did not fully clip into the wall. A wall clip is also used in 4-2 in order to push Mario further right to the screen in order to trigger the wrong warp to go to the warp zone quicker. In the second room of 8-4, a wall jump is used to save time over hitting the invisible coin block and then climb on it.
Notes: SM64: Dark World is only the first of three bowser fights SMG: 9:04 2 hours and 30 minutes is not that long NSMBU: Showed NSMBUDX at start of section which is a different game SM3DW: 12:50 Mario isn’t used in any% because he is useless SMO: DSS has replaced Dino Skip for most top runs but wasn’t really used at time of this videos release. For Dram, cappy homing is done before moon collection. Metro building jump doesn’t use perfect jumps, it’s in the beginner route. Moon Cave Skip is NOT one of the hardest jumps, it’s free, snow dram is much harder.
How did they figure out that Mario World glitch!? “Oh let’s grab this shell and bounce on this 1 Koopa and then throw the Koopa shell up to this block and this hidden block and hit the middle block with my head and go back to see a message (I don’t know Japanese) and exit out to set down the Koopa then pick it up just to kick it away again then let’s go on this yoshi and eat this Koopa and spit it out to grab another one and turn back to set down the yoshi, grab the coin in its mouth and- wait this is the end of the game? Short game.”
In NSMBU, there’s no secret exit in 1-5. There is one in 1-2, which takes you to 5-1. Also, while there is a secret in 5-5, the secret you need to get to 7-1 is 5-Ghost House.
For anyone who is confused on why he called moon skip hard, its because he got it confused with a different jump where you skip the cave by jumping from the front of it which IS actually hard Still, you probably should have done more research copy cat
To give my honest opinion (This is coming from a good runner in the galaxy community (I.e Any% Luigi), it honestly seems like the details covered within the SMG Speedrun are kinda brief. It's understandable, but at the moment not much stuff is given, not that much research is done about the specific communities, and nothings covered in the 3D Marios, as much as the 2D Marios. Maybe not really bring up as many notes as the 2D Mario games, but Within Galaxy 1, most of the stuff you mentioned isn't really considered majorly important or things that are required to mention within the community. It's good to get started, but mentioning tricks such as Honeyhive 1 Tree Skip, mention how important routing is, and such is kinda important when it comes to it. Also, for a 2:30 hour game, the route isn't really as much of a big worry, due to splits constantly telling where to go. Galaxy 2 is a similar thing, but not much was said, minus the amount of time spent playing the game, being 2:58:39 by Nemi. If I was in the situation I would've mentioned how strats such as the Infinite Flutter Glitch, and many others have been put into the run, and also how Nemi has spent 9 years in order to make him as much of a better player in the game, implemented way more riskier, un-RTA (real-time attack), viable strats, and also have been a lot more aggressive as a player. Galaxy runs aren't really as bad when it comes to it, mainly cause downtime being a key factor. If you saw how cutscene oriented the run is, then even though it's a time where getting nervous is a thing, but you can also chat with the stream, talk with the community and such. It's also much more breathing room to SM64. To TL;DR, if you are making something like this, it's always better to do your research and be more thorough within the community, like how you've been critiqued. Join the discord server for the community, and ask questions, take notes, and also learn about how everything is ran. I know it's kinda spoiling the whole thing, but it will at least get yourself on a point with commentary. Myself and others would be very glad to help you out
I just got into speedrunning, and I have learned the 3d all stars and odyessey route, because I like using my switch more than my wii u, so when 3d world + bowsers fury comes out, I can't wait to actually submit my runs, because I love 3d world and can't wait to play either the 3d world or bowsers fury category, or both, because you KNOW those are going to be the options.
Yo dude, I was thinking, as you are interested in Mario Odyssey Speedrunning, I could give you more insight on tricks/mindsets that certain runners have, I'm currently 5th place in Any% so I have lots of experience with it :)
While I did enjoy this video, there were a lot of parts you could’ve explained better or been more factually correct. If you make another video like this or remake this I recommend you get in contact with the communities to check your facts first.
Is there seriously nobody who's used the shortcut with the painting from the lake kingdom to the luncheon kingdom to cut off a HUGE amount of time in their speedrun in Super Mario Odyssey?
Nice Video! Also Lunar Eclipse is only 1 walljump, the any% Speedrun method is called “MCS, (Moon Cave Skip), I know you also didn’t mention this but there’s also a newish Strat called DDS/DSS, (Dino Skip Skip/Dino Dino Skip, idk which one it is but people refer to them as both)
In odyssey the moon itself doesnt clip you in. Back flipping and cap throwing clips you into the wall, but normally the wall will push you back out. During a moon cutscene, however, collision is disabled.
i love watching speedruns.. but i will always call bullshit on some of the glitches.. how i threw all theses random shells and a glitch pipe appear where i was falling... bs! i understand these people spend alot of time finding glitches, but come on. ocarina of time glitches get me.. oh back flip with a stick after getting hit by a boss into the corner of a door, pause game , reload and boom, suddenly on last boss... BS! and dont get my frickin started on mario 64!!!!! AND WTF Odyssey.. how did they find these glitches.. "yeah, i got a moon and decided to just randomly jump and throw cap to grab a bullet that i had no idea was there." But honestly.. awesome skills. keep up the speedruns you sneaky gaming buggers.
Mario Party? Mario Kart? MARIO MAKER? Are not handheld much of it, and the most the Super Mario Maker 2, is nice lmao Ah, yes, and you forgot New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe ._. Nah, probably is so much like the not deluxe, but is a bit different

They dont think that "hm, maybe someone already have commented this" they just comment it and move on with their day. Its so, goddamn triggering, im tryna have a good time reading comments after a... well not perfect video but very intresting but the comments are fludded with people criticising. Not that they shouldnt its sometimes good for the creator but there's just so, goddamn much of the same its driving me insane. Anyway, i loved the video, just had to get this of my chest.
"You do also need a bit of luck. An example of this is the first boss fight with Peaty Piranha." Wrong that's the second fight Peaty. You even showed the correct footage of the second fight, but you said "the first boss fight".
If you want to break a record, does it have to be done via camera on Twitch or on Steam? Does it have to be with someone from GWR present? And am I allowed breaks or even several-day-plays?
Lmao you cant save 0.35 secs (21 frames) only 19 frames on his best, because off framerules and you most likely already have frames to spare it looks like 0.35 seconds (21 frames)
Mario 3 is extremely complex with the pipe glitch it’s kinda like writing code because the shell is like 1 bit of code Mario world might be even more complex it’s ridiculous
Flagpole glitch does not save a framerule. Flagpole glitch saves 15 frames, meaning you can just not save a framerule if you mess anything up in the level.
Whoa, I actually made a video very similar to this one a few months ago. It doesn't look like you plagiarized my script in any way though so I'm sure it's just a coincidence. It's interesting to see how our takes on games differed actually. For example I think you definitely undersold Galaxy 2 and that it's a more interesting speedrun to watch than Galaxy 1. You went into more detail on some games than me, and I went into more detail on others so I think our videos balance each other out pretty well. I also covered the handheld games and I kinda wonder why you didn't considering there's only a few of them.
Great video! FadeVanity actually got a new world record in nsmbw a couple days ago: 24:28. He started grinding a bit any% again, so it's worth to check out his twitch. twitch.tv/FadeVanity
Just for the record while I like your videos as they always involve some Mario trivia some of which is lesser known than others especially on what I call "The True Super Mario 2"(as in the one that was released in Japan not the US initially, to which I would love if you made a video just about all the secret entrances including the parts that send you back to previous levels so we all know where to and not to go), but with all due respect to the game players out there who do this I don't like speed runs, as someone with both "Asperger's Syndrome and OCD" to me the only cheating I like is with an old "Game Shark" on the N64 system or another thing like an action replay though not on all Mario Games as using such devices can often lead to serious glitches that mess up the game more than make it easier, but I'd rather see who holds the record for completing the games with not glitches and with all the things you can do or collect (like the hidden badges in the handheld game "Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga" or collecting all the stars in the N64 game before playing the final boss) as a means of both showing speed and a sense of fair and true play rather than cheating by the use of glitches, so in other words I'm not impressed though I'd love it if you would point out all the secret warp pipes in "Super Mario 3D World" as I am looking forward to playing the re-release on the switch, but please emphasize to these guys that to me and others like me we would rather have "Perfection over efficiency".

Myself and others would be very glad to help you out
its hard to break down 2 hours worth of playtime and find tricks and stuff, it takes long to cover even with the community's help
Bro you wrote like a short essay and have 0 likes wtf
Suomi perkele!! 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮 Vallu is tha finnish speedrun GOD both smg games top 10 and sm3dw 2st nice
turpakiinni 09
"moon skip is one of the hardest jumps in the game", snow dram: am I a joke to you?
He just got confused with another jump
SMB1 Any% WR was just beaten by Kosmic
*Summoning Salt intensifies*
damn that guy with the #1 time on SMB has a cool name!
I LOVE Mario Galaxy 1 and 2,
they were my childhood
Lol SM64 speedrun is one BLJ and then you enter last level in game
BOWSER IN THE DARK WORLD
Bowser in the sky: am i a joke to you
I just got into speedrunning, and I have learned the 3d all stars and odyessey route, because I like using my switch more than my wii u, so when 3d world + bowsers fury comes out, I can't wait to actually submit my runs, because I love 3d world and can't wait to play either the 3d world or bowsers fury category, or both, because you KNOW those are going to be the options.
I beat Odyssey in one day...that’s a good enough speed run for me
Siiick
I beat it in 1h 59m so I’m happy with that :)
LeyoGaming 05 nice. Well I had gotten Odyssey on Christmas Day so I didn’t have a lot of down time
masongamer 195 nice, I got it on Christmas so...😂
i beat it in 1h 12min, with a death in bowsers
Noone ever calls moon skip "lunar eclipse".Did you made that up?
No he said the name of another jump the skips moon cave that IS actually hard, I think he just got confused
I love how you're like: "mere seconds off the run" while showing super mario bros where they do insane tricks just to save 1 framerule (21 frames)
You got mario 64 a bit wrong but thats okay overall nice video for people who dont know much about speedrunning
The dinosaur glitch is not really a glitch, but a skip, I've done it before!
Yo dude, I was thinking, as you are interested in Mario Odyssey Speedrunning, I could give you more insight on tricks/mindsets that certain runners have, I'm currently 5th place in Any% so I have lots of experience with it :)
Uh, no, you're not.
Yellow Skarmory uhh, yes I am lol, my username is Dansta2106
@@danielstangl2973 oh shoot, you're 6th then but sorry, is there a reason you don't post stuff on YT?
Yellow Skarmory i do, on my main channel called Dansta2106 as well :)
@@danielstangl2973 Ah, okay. Sorry for the misunderstanding!
All these speedrunners are even faster than me eating food
Dude I love these videos thank you
5:18
CopyCat: Teacate has the wr of 7:57
Me: How did niftski beat it by 5 seconds
Of course you forgot the 3 Mario DS titles:
•new super Mario bros
•new super Mario bros 2
•Super Mario 3D land
Coming soon
Thats not of console, is of handheld
Killedragon YT nothing said it was console only but either way he has a video with the handhelds now 🤫
Literally said it: th-cam.com/video/_gLw9XM1IY8/w-d-xo.html
While I did enjoy this video, there were a lot of parts you could’ve explained better or been more factually correct. If you make another video like this or remake this I recommend you get in contact with the communities to check your facts first.
Is there seriously nobody who's used the shortcut with the painting from the lake kingdom to the luncheon kingdom to cut off a HUGE amount of time in their speedrun in Super Mario Odyssey?
Matthew Baumann the odyssey isn’t there I believe so u can’t progress the game and even if it was its way harder than any other skip in the run
yeah good luck with that one m8
You CANNOT use bruncheon in any% because you can’t get to moon from there
A Super Mario Bros WR was set today by Kosmic, 4:55.64
Nice Video! Also Lunar Eclipse is only 1 walljump, the any% Speedrun method is called “MCS, (Moon Cave Skip), I know you also didn’t mention this but there’s also a newish Strat called DDS/DSS, (Dino Skip Skip/Dino Dino Skip, idk which one it is but people refer to them as both)
it's DSS not DDS, you skip dino skip so its dino skip skip
Leo179 thought so, because somebody said it was DDS which makes no sense lmao 😂
nixisawesome lol ye
Hi it’s lavalizard from ur most fav event stream. Loved the vid
Thx 4 hearting copycat. When’s ur next stream
there's a bit of misinformation about some different skips and tricks but this is still a great list of speedruns that you put together.
You're gonna have to update that SMO part...
True. Are you a SMO player?
@@smallfrank1442 nah, but i follow the smo and sm64 speedruns closely (as much as I can)
Retro Game Mechanics Explained has a great video about the SMB3 pipe glitch
"yeah, i got a moon and decided to just randomly jump and throw cap to grab a bullet that i had no idea was there."
But honestly.. awesome skills. keep up the speedruns you sneaky gaming buggers.
For smb1 he forgot to mention world 4-2
8:28 OOH
Actually Lost Levels wasn't reskinned at all. The American Mario 2 was, however, from a game called Doki Doki Panic.
Mario Party?
Mario Kart?
MARIO MAKER?
Are not handheld much of it, and the most the Super Mario Maker 2, is nice lmao
Ah, yes, and you forgot New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe ._.
Nah, probably is so much like the not deluxe, but is a bit different
mario party, kart and maker are games that dont belong in the video, they're so different.
MP, MK, and SMM are not main series console games. NSMBUDX isn’t main series either.
Super Mario 64 has much more than only this glitch
The "super hard jump" is called moon cave skip, and is very easy. Lunar eclipse If a different version/trickjump that is not used in runs and is very difficult
bruh im trying to read comments and half of them are literally just people watching the video, seing a mistake and commenting.
An example of this is the first boss fight with Peaty Piranha."
Wrong that's the second fight Peaty. You even showed the correct footage of the second fight, but you said "the first boss fight".
Copycat u seem like such a kind person and whenever I get a notification from u it puts a smile on my face so thank you so much for that
I got 100% in Mario Odyssey, and it took me 15 days.
Super Mario Bros is missing so much. 4-2 wrong warp. 8-2 Bullet Bill Glitch. 8-4 wrong warp. Oh my...
If you want to break a record, does it have to be done via camera on Twitch or on Steam? Does it have to be with someone from GWR present? And am I allowed breaks or even several-day-plays?
Lmao you cant save 0.35 secs (21 frames) only 19 frames on his best, because off framerules and you most likely already have frames to spare it looks like 0.35 seconds (21 frames)
gietie On every level except 8-4 you can only save time in increments of 21 frames
Mario 3 is extremely complex with the pipe glitch it’s kinda like writing code because the shell is like 1 bit of code Mario world might be even more complex it’s ridiculous
Kosmic got the Mario 1 record back!
Flagpole glitch does not save a framerule. Flagpole glitch saves 15 frames, meaning you can just not save a framerule if you mess anything up in the level.
Oof the super mario bros world record has been broken just a few days ago.
Speedrunner: I beat sonic forces. That was short
They discovered new skips allowing you to pass the night time version of metro kingdom using a cappy flag pole technique
It saves no time for any% it takes 3 minutes to set up and you need 2p mode
That’s slower
You should post links to runs in the description
cool
i’m da only comment loool
Whoa, I actually made a video very similar to this one a few months ago. It doesn't look like you plagiarized my script in any way though so I'm sure it's just a coincidence. It's interesting to see how our takes on games differed actually. For example I think you definitely undersold Galaxy 2 and that it's a more interesting speedrun to watch than Galaxy 1. You went into more detail on some games than me, and I went into more detail on others so I think our videos balance each other out pretty well. I also covered the handheld games and I kinda wonder why you didn't considering there's only a few of them.
NSMBW! Huzzah! Very Well crafted video!
Kaoskarl hi
Shoutouts to nsmbw btw good game definitely recommend it
Even if i say i hate it every 5s lmao
DiamondcrafterA/DCA the game is just stupid sometimes
I clicked on your video about the world record in EVERY Mario game specifically for the New Super Mario Bros. DS section... I've been clickbaited :|
Super mario 64 is wrong. You dont get to the last level from that glitch you just get to the first boss
Damn what a good channel
I’ve been playing Mario galaxy for 4 years how do you get the cosmic speed boost?
Guys we get it he messed up at the 64 section it's fine you don't have to keep pointing it out he allready apologized for it give the man a break
It’s kind of ironic that an American has the fastest time for the game that was deemed “too hard for North American audiences.”
Personally I don't think you can really talk about new super mario bros wii without mentioning the original new super mario bros but I digress
Furious is an brazilian.
He made honor to our people.
Well this was a bad time to make this video lol, kosmic beat the WR today!
6:28 sethbling is 2nd , seriously?!?
Wait what the Minecraft guy?
@@nintendo1471 yes , he was an extrodinary redstonner , it seems logic , he has all requiried for speedrun (yes my english is ... Ugly at this point , sorry)
8:13
Just wanna correct you by saying that's actually the second fight with Petey.
The very first battle with Petey is much less luck reliant.
No world record is perfect. There are some that are close to perfect, like smb1, but every world record is beatable(except for dragster)
He's a liar that's only the first Bowser level
wow very original
2:16 new way to acsess minus world
So we'll all just pretend NSMB DS and NSMB 2 don't exist?
Making a handheld game vid
HauptsacheGeil he said only consoles in this one
Did anyone else find this funny for some reason
