Yes it would be either Cat or Jade if you take singing only but the whole story of Tori Goes Platinum is all about Mason Thornesmith recreating Tori into an obnoxious bad girl rock star, and take joy in doing it, evidently when he set up the restaurant. It’s something Mason saw in Tori that he didn’t see in other auditions, I believe it’s Tori innocence, her naivety. Had he picked Jade he might have been scared the crap out by her or with Cat he would be too frustrated by her ditziness (and bibble addiction), he can not control Jade like he did with Tori since we all know Jade and Cat might probably be too easy. I agree this song may not be her best choice to show off her skills (You’re the reason acoustic version might work better), Jade and Cat audition was top notch that show off all the good aspects of their voices. Mason can’t just pick anyone, he has to pick someone that has enough talent that also fits in his story. Everyone who knows Tori knows that she’s a nice girl, who is lovable by everyone, she’s talented and beautiful (that may be a side note) but deep down Tori still has a little insecurity because compared to everyone else she’s been going to Hollywood Arts for probably over a year by the time of Tori Goes Platinum, she wanted to stick to the end of this story that she did everything until Beck gave her the courage to stand up for herself, Mason’s story of Tori is a sweet girl turns bad and has a odd choice of fashion (Tori herself has quite a good sense of fashion (at least according to the wiki)) due to being famous already getting to her, creating a perfect story that helps with all the pr shenanigans of the showbiz world

I feel like all the hate Tori (Justice) gets is actually misdirected anger at the show writers for the way they treated Ari and Liz. Tori's the main character, we all get that, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't have given more songs and spotlight to the other girls as well. If Tori got half the songs and the other girls split the other half (not counting Andre, who got significant love from the producers) then I don't think people would have been as upset. As it stands, after showing Give It Up at the end of the first season, they barely let them open their mouths at all after that; and when they did, it was only to either say something stupid (Cat) or some snide comment (Jade).

This was AWFUL. I could have sung this better in my sleep. Especially considering I would have sung it ON KEY. Tori has some great performances including Make It In America later in this episode but this.....this gave me second-hand embarrassment.

Honestly, Tori’s audition was good. The piano added a nice touch. But Jade and Cat’s auditions were outstanding.
