One useful thing I do at this point in the game is when I mind I use the Silk touch pickaxe since I'm getting extra drops off the fortune one it takes up more inventory slots but if I just take the block it saves space. I can always lay them down back at my base and use fortune on them there
You can take a crafting table and turn them into storage blocks as you go along if you're going on a particularly long mining session. It's slightly more space efficient than silk touching the ores, with the exception of lapis, and I think copper.
I hope people aren’t too acidic about your choices when playing; everyone has different priorities. My daughter gets excited about finding bones and immediately locates wolves to tame whereas I can think of a few better uses for them! Play styles are as unique as us all
Ender chests are an absolute blessing if you love to explore - even if you lose it, getting lost or whatever, you don't lose your stuff. Also +1 for emergency supplies. Before shulker boxes I kept a lot of "build a temp shelter" supplies in my ender chest so when exploring, I could just make one up right at night fall and continue in morning.
10:55 I recommend using a fortune 3 shovel. Mining down low and finding gravel gives you an instantly mineable block for uncovering reduced air exposure ores. Diamonds and ancient debris are the obvious motivator. Now after digging up 5 gravel blobs underground you'll have like 7 stacks of flint that are easily sold to a fletcher, leather workers or to tool smith's (don't recommend tool smith's because they want 30 instead of 26 flint for an emerald) I use this strategy all the time when I'm mining late game just do it It's worth it.
I saw you use the enderchest during your copper vein mining last week and i was mind blown, never thought to use it like this, and YES ill be using this trick!! Because im one of those accident prone player!!! So thank you Pix!!
Even if I think I know everything there is to know about a certain topic (come on, I know how to use an ender chest!); I always get something out of Pixlriffs videos! Like smelting the unwanted gold tools and armor for nuggets :) Thank you Pixlriffs, you are awesome!
Ender chests are so useful. I especially liked how you can use them as a storage block for obsidian, which is best done if you've got a reliable source for ender pearls and blaze powder. Mining a bunch of obsidian but don't have space to store it all? Compact it 8 to 1 with ender chests, then break them (without silk touch) when you need the obsidian again.
@@Raskolnikov70 then if you've got a stack of ender chests in your ender chest, you're all set. But if you suddenly need to build a portal, you can pull a few out to break a few. Or if you need a non-pushable or a blast-proof block for some reason, you can break a few to get what you need. Either way, that stack of ender chests can come in rather useful in more ways than one.
As someone who uses the Ender chest to exclusively hold valuables, the idea of using one to help mine was always novel. And with the trade for Ender pearls on cleric villagers, now, I guess they really are early-game tools for inventory management. But that compact extra storage is super helpful even if you have shulker boxes or bundles. As a bonus, since Ender chets stack to sixteen is that you can stuff one into a bundle without issues. That does require you to enable the Experimental features, which are basically just bundles at this point.
To build off the sidenote from the end of the episode (although not relevant until you actually go to the End), honestly the best part of being able to swap armor items in the hotbar is being able to swap your chestplate and elytra with a single click. I honestly think with this ability it can be worth keeping your chestplate in your inventory once you have elytra if you go caving, etc. to save yourself from a potentially sticky situation, or to keep your chestplate on with elytra in the hotbar in case you take a wrong step and fall into a one block gap. For so long in minecraft having an elytra basically meant giving up an armor slot, but if you're clever about it you can almost get the best of both worlds.
I always keep a full stack of ender chests in mine and 2 in my inventory. If I ever access it and don't have 2 in my inventory, i just grab one from the stack. And in a pinch, i can break one for the obsidian (if needed for a portal or other use) and I'll still have plenty
I only just recently learned how useful and valuable an ender chest can be... through watching Hermitcraft videos. Before, I'd keep them stashed in various places with backup gear or useful stuff--at my base, my slime farm, my iron farm, etc. Now I keep one on me at all times, and it's increasingly filled with shulker boxes, some of which contain backup gear and useful stuff, most of which are empty for resource gathering, adventuring, or building. Very useful indeed!
I’m a technical Minecraft player, and 97% of this is old hat. I keep watching for the accent, and for the three percent. Very thorough canvassing of most features.
Also; If you want to get back to your current spawn point really quickly (say you’re far out in the Nether and don’t want to walk home) you can put all your items in an enderchest and die intentionally to get home instantly. You will lose levels though.

As a result, this _Zombiefied Piglin_ cannot spread its aggression, and you remain safe.
The problem I usually find with this argument is that it always assumes the reason you’re fighting mobs is to deal with a threat. I prefer a more versatile sword because I’m often interested in acquiring mob drops, and Looting is a sword exclusive enchantment.
Great series, got me back into Minecraft after many years. Hoping eventually you can talk about nether highways and linking portals. Have two bases pretty far away but my portals aren’t linking properly. Been on forums and still can’t figure it out. They should be good. 🤷🏼♂️
Putting everything in your ender chest is awesome... until that moment your level.dat file gets corrupted and you lose all your player data - meaning all the stuff you've carefully stashed in your ender chest is lost. Back-up your worlds regularly folks! And then back them up again on a different storage device!
I mean, if your world gets corrupted it doesn't matter if you had all your belongings in an ender chest or not. This comment has nothing to do with ender chests.
@@etherealg3940 It absolutely does. Because if your level.dat file gets corrupted, you can absolutely recover the world, but you CANNOT recover the stuff that was in your ender chest when the file was corrupted. You wanna know how I know that?
During almost the entirety of the episode I was like "okay thats an episode where I already know all of it", then right at the end i learn about the armor trick which is amazing (yesterday I was just thinking how it would be useful to have something like that to swap between elytra and chestplate in case of emergency)
Even better, try swapping out your elytra mid-flight for a sudden drop, then swap them back in and hit space to resume flying. Bedrock players have been able to cancel flight for ages, but on Java we had to go to the trouble of opening the inventory and removing our Elytra. At least, until now…
The only thing I put in my ender chests are shulker boxes. I keep 9 of them in the chests and theres one chest in every camp. So, it's sort of like a bank in an RPG.
I did not know we could smelt down gold armor for gold nuggets. I'll be!!! Wow. All this time I would just let it sit in a chest or not take it. LOL See, I am finding out a lot of things I would never have known. Thanks again Pixl
lol the horse armor joke is great, idk why people get so up in arms about 'em, i think bdubs is the only one ive seen use horses regularly in a long time
Because they stack, I generally carry a full 64 with me. Because I can always break them with a non silktouch pickaxe if I find myself somewhere needing obsidian to make a portal.
In Survival Guide Season 2 you built a wonderfully simple iron farm in the world's spawn chunks. From that tutorial I built that same farm in my world while in 1.19. I have now moved to 1.20.1, and I've noticed recently that the farm is not as lucrative after AFK sessions now as it has been in previous versions. I've changed a few things now that I've updated the world - moved it from a server to my own pc, changed my mod client, etc - but before I go exploring the effects of those I was wondering if you'd noticed reduced rates in that particular design yourself? I've been watching the series since Season 1, and loved every episode. This one has been particularly handy!!
@janusofborg the iron farm bug being fixed in 1.20.2 is one from 1.18 xD. They're upping the rates of golem spawning, as well as reducing batering time with piglin
I once intentionally broke an ender chest without silk touch because I was in the nether and didn't have any other way to get obsidian. I needed one more block to make a portal to get home because I got incredibly lost lol
You can swap armor in your hotbar now?? Does that work with Elytra / chest armor swapping as well?? If so, imagine all the hardcore worlds that could have saved. Haha. Amazing change if so.
I love that apparently the comments basically bullied Pix into hoarding a bunch of horse armour he never wanted. Can't wait for the episode all about the useful properties of that one poisonous potato.
I think Minecraft should make the Ender chest hold double the items.. They are not good for holding extra armor and weapons because they takes up about a third of the available slots.
Let say after you a butch of shulkers box’s after you crafted need getting of overworld of certain item but for got get at home base. Stuff your inventory back into ender chest then die sent overworld(not in hardcore)
This week on Her... I mean, Today, on The Minecraft Survival Guide. Thanx, Pix for all u do keeping us entertained and or distracted from real life. This man should have 2mil subs minimum. Hit that sub button, scrolled. Just do it
This video got me stuck on enderchest paradox, does an endless chest placed inside an ender chest equal infinite ender chests or are you viewing a 'picture' of your ender chest with the knowledge of what is stored in the chest un the picture ... also if you place a hopper between 2 ender chest are they in a transfere loop?
It's a shame there's no way to pull from an ender chest with a hopper, really. They could think of a way to specify which user to pull from (like: the user who placed the hopper). And it would be really useful for mining.
There's a mod called Ender Storage which adds another type of ender chest with a 3-digit combination - any chest with that combo links to any other. I'm pretty sure you can use hoppers with those.
@@Pixlriffs Yep! I've played with those in Enigmatica 2 Expert. Really useful for automation. Their content isn't player specific like the vanilla chest, so hopper pulls aren't ambiguous.
Can another player break your ender chests? Silk touch or not, can someone remove your ender chest from its placement? What happens if another player breaks your ender chests, say you have 2 and they smash both, are your items permanently gone or will they reappear if you place down another ender chest?
Any player can break an ender chest, but items in the ender chest are stored along with your player data. It's like a second inventory. Items are not erased if you lose access to the ender chest, they will be there next time you open one
That iconic pixlriffs intro never gets old

Nice. End visit, dragon fight and end city looting next time, right? Talking about elytra, talking about the shulkers and shulker boxes?
"Things that you personal dont find that useful but the community wont get off your chest about" 🤣 that felt personal
@@soultundra7869Well, it’s been 9 months. Seems like they don’t wanna know.
At this point pix is basically speed running through the tutorial. Still the best season 3.❤
At least, until now…
cant wait for the redstone episode(s)!! :D
I hope you have plans to talk about all the things you can use for fuel and self-feeding furnace arrays.
Pixlriffs you are the best one of all at guiding in Minecraft. And do you know you have the highest knowledge of all in Minecraft?
I remember your death in SG2 in the bastion when you opened your ender chest near the piglins and they instantly ambushed you
The only thing I put in my ender chests are shulker boxes. I keep 9 of them in the chests and theres one chest in every camp. So, it's sort of like a bank in an RPG.
It's always a good day when we get a Pixlriffs episode
I did not know we could smelt down gold armor for gold nuggets. I'll be!!! Wow. All this time I would just let it sit in a chest or not take it. LOL See, I am finding out a lot of things I would never have known. Thanks again Pixl
Ah yes, good ol' cloud storage
lol the horse armor joke is great, idk why people get so up in arms about 'em, i think bdubs is the only one ive seen use horses regularly in a long time
I recently did that armor swap trick on binding boots. Now I know how that happened. I’m not convinced I like the feature lol
Such good video about enderchests.
Wattles mentioned a bug that has reduced rates. I think he mentioned it was getting fixed in 1.20.2
@janusofborg ahh right. I'll go check that out, thank you!
I would have tried to get the magma cubes into a hole somewhere, since they are needed to get froglights.
You can swap armor in your hotbar now?? Does that work with Elytra / chest armor swapping as well?? If so, imagine all the hardcore worlds that could have saved. Haha. Amazing change if so.
Might have been worth mentioning that blaze rods are not obtainable by people who play on peaceful which some do as they have a phobia of spiders.
phobia of spiders is a reason to lock yourself? really?
the pacing of these videos (since the PC is gone for repairs) is relatively fast for being a Pixlriffs video. Not complaining. Just an observation
imo the pacing feels the same as all the videos of this series
I love that apparently the comments basically bullied Pix into hoarding a bunch of horse armour he never wanted.
Can't wait for the episode all about the useful properties of that one poisonous potato.
He can always smelt the iron & gold horse armor into nuggets.
I’m also pretty sure that ender chests are blast proof since they’re made of obsidian although I’m not 100% on if I’m remembering that right
They are blast proof, yeah!
I found out about the armour swapping feature on the weekend when I right clicked on my elytra & my chest plate came off now I used it all the time.
Wait so if a player goes to your chest and he put his stuff in the chest. Would you be able to see it then even though your chest
I think Minecraft should make the Ender chest hold double the items.. They are not good for holding extra armor and weapons because they takes up about a third of the available slots.
Let say after you a butch of shulkers box’s after you crafted need getting of overworld of certain item but for got get at home base. Stuff your inventory back into ender chest then die sent overworld(not in hardcore)
lmao i feel called out about having Echests in my Echest
Q) Does the game pause when you open a chest and look in it? Or can mobs still spawn and attack you?
Hey Pix, will you ever play a hardcore series with a survival island at any point?
Hello Pixlriffs, my name is Michael and welcome back TOOOO the comment section.
Throw out the diamonds? Yup, let's get rid of the trash :)
This week on Her... I mean, Today, on The Minecraft Survival Guide. Thanx, Pix for all u do keeping us entertained and or distracted from real life. This man should have 2mil subs minimum. Hit that sub button, scrolled. Just do it
Hearing your absolute and shear excitement when you found the notch apple
This video got me stuck on enderchest paradox, does an endless chest placed inside an ender chest equal infinite ender chests or are you viewing a 'picture' of your ender chest with the knowledge of what is stored in the chest un the picture ... also if you place a hopper between 2 ender chest are they in a transfere loop?
If you die in lava & lose all the gear you're wearing/carrying, will the contents of the ender chest disappear too?
I'm playing at the same seed, but couln't find this other mineshaft. Someone have the coordnates?
For the horse episode does the splash potion of swiftness and then breeding the horses still work to keep it permanent?
I didn't even realize you could smelt old armor or weapons!
??? If your only ender chest gets destroyed does the inventory survive until you make another one?
This feels like a sales pitch on like shark tank
Does the hopper trick stick work to unload chests without making the piglins agro?? It's my goto for raiding bastions
Yes, but they made it harder by making gilded blackstone appear more frequently under the chests, and if you break that it aggros the Piglins
@@Pixlriffs sneaky sneaky Mojang. So just a bit more finesse and caution, but still a legitimate strategy🤙 Good to know. Thanks😁
I'm surprised you didn't talk about bundles, even if they are still experimental for Java.
I think because you can't yet craft them without a datapack installed.
Nice :) 👍
Can we filter out or in to an ender chest?
I'm gonna be honest, i still play survival like it's 1.12
