  • The skeleton coast is a video documentary of a place in Namibia where ships and crews are buried.
The Skeleton Coast is the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean coast of Namibia and south of Angola, from the Kunene River south to the Swakop River.
The Skeleton Coast is the world’s biggest grave site for sailors and ships.
The Bushmen of the Namibian interior called the region "The Land God Made in Anger", while Portuguese sailors once referred to it as "The Gates of Hell.
Namibia is the world's thirty-fourth largest country.
After Mongolia, Namibia is the second least densely populated country in the world, with 2.7 inhabitants per square kilometre.
The country got its name from the Namib desert that stretches along the coast of the Atlantic. It is also known for its wildlife.
The Namibian landscape generally consists of five geographical areas, each with characteristic abiotic conditions and vegetation with some variation within and overlap between them: the Central Plateau, the Namib Desert, the Great Escarpment, the Bushveld, and the Kalahari Desert.
But unfortunately, this video is not about any of these places.
This video is about the Skeleton Coast, the world’s biggest grave site for sailors and ships.
The Skeleton Coast is the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean coast of Namibia and south of Angola from the Kunene River south to the Swakop River.
The skeleton coast is dangerously known as a home for over 500 shipwrecks and stranded ships whose skeletons you can find left behind.

I visited in 1969/70 (I was 18 and working my way out of Eurocentrism)...only in recent years have I had time to learn of its history.
I had, however, had the fortune to read Alan Paton and Laurenz van der Post on the indigenous peoples before finding myself seeing a fraction of what was then 'South West Africa'.
I was based in Jo'burg at the time...and knew little of where I was.
    Wasted youth has its rewards.
    I'm Irish born...we share history.
