The modding community for BRC is insanely talented and very strong. So, I can definitely see that too. But maybe the JSR's modding could also be good depending on what can be done
My hopes are that the team currently working on JSR3 have a real interest in the present-day skater scene and do a genuine emulation of it in the game, rather than just taking the aesthetics of the first two JSR games and making it modern.
I think Bomb Rush Cyberfunk won't overshadow the new Jet Set Radio because all it is, the mere present of BRC, got the attention of the former developers of JSR and that's why the new JSR game is going in a new direction.
@@RisingSonic17 JSR, despite not being a huge hit but being a cult darling from the get-go, is attached to a much larger scale of classic games returning such as Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Shinobi, etc. Much as I adore BRC, I don't believe for a moment it's existence lead to any kinds of decisions; they've known for years by now that they were going to come back to those games regardless of BRC.
It was especially interesting seeing the discourse happen live in the Team Reptile/Slopcrew servers. most Bomb Rush fans certainly have passionate opinions on JSR3 one way or the other, it's a big deal for us. personally, I would've wanted them to have a more faithful reimagining of the cel shaded artstyle instead of the "crisp 3d models" modern artstyle that a lot of old franchises have converted to. I feel what you're saying about it still being a new, fresh experience that could even attract a wider audience to the game. I will say I like the parkour moves and vaulting animations and stuff, if the gameplay is smooth and controls as well as BRC, the game will succeed. Ultimately I'm along for the ride, I'll see how it looks when it comes out and most likely buy it anyways. I don't think BRC's success will overshadow it, I think JSR3's release is a separate big deal, but a lot of people who are into BRC may be going into its release with negative bias towards it already, so it might affect its reputation overall unless Sega really delivers. JSR3 will either be good and fun or it won't, BRC modding will stay on top due to the longevity potential of the scene either way. Can't 3d model your own OC into the game or play as [popular media character] in JSR3 after all
I've paid attention to a lot of the discourse in there as well and it's a lot of mixed opinions. Where again, BRC had filled that void SEGA left and don't have trust in a AAA company and those who are just happy to see Jet Set Radio return and just wanna see it succeed after a long absence. BRC has definitely scratched that itch of the classic JSR/JSRF gameplay and style that we fell in love with from those games. I think that at least gave SEGA the reassurance that people still want those kinds of games. Now that it's back in the light, they can show also that they can evolve what they did 2 decades ago. I think they made the right choice of wanting to go for a drastic change to differentiate themselves. Now if they can get the controls and physics right, make the aesthetics amazing and eye catching, have a fun crazy story with its silly cast, the music is crazy, then everything will be good. Now the eyes are even more on SEGA because of how long its been and with the overwhelming reception of BRC, a lot of people don't believe SEGA has got it anymore and they wouldn't be able to do what Team Reptile achieved. If JSR3 does end up failing, then it just ends up being a "we told you so. Back to BRC" And then of course BRC's modding scene is insanely strong and dedicated that it would also make JSR3 look even worse if it fails. Because the fans of BRC continues to evolve and make BRC even bigger than it initially was. So, expectations are high. SEGA gotta hope they can really do good on this new game. Or it'll be for naught
@@RisingSonic17 Yup good points all around. I'm actually excited to hear how the music is for the game, not that I don't love the BRC soundtrack but I think a lot of the songs lack the staying power that JSRF OST has. If the music and gameplay physics deliver, I think it could be a good game that even converts the doubters into fans.
I think it will be fine. A part of me wants BRC to overshadow JSR just because Sega doesn't do anything with the series and now all of a sudden it gets announced to be in production THE SAME WEEK BOMB RUSH CYBERFUNK GETS RELEASED, YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE SEGA, BUT ITS TOO LATE. Team Reptile did it themselves. HOWEVER i also acknowledge that games take time to create, and theres the whole business side of things which makes this even more complicated. Ultimately in an "ideal" world you ask for a game to be made and its done. But we don't live in an ideal world. There are a number of reasons why Jet Set Radio didn't get that next installment sooner, but what we did get was a very excellent alternative in the same style of Jet. One that is rich with mods, the life blood of any game really. Im happy whenever JSR decides to drop, because i know ill be styln' in BRC in the meantime. My only concern now is that the next game is as fun to play as in the past games.
Before I watch the full thing, I'm going to say no. Mainly because a lot of people that liked Jsr/Jsrf flocked to Brcf and they will just flock back to the new game that releases with open arms seeing that's the Ip they initially came from. However! If hypothetically the game was garbage for whatever reason/ and or strays too far to what's jsr, then I can see the game not being played all too often and people would just go back to Brcf. The community for that game is VERY big and the modding scene has only gotten better with time, increasing the life cycle of the game even further. Regardless the new jsr will definitely have high expectations though because of it.
Honestly I think both the jet set radio game and bomb rush cyberfunk are just gonna coexist peacefully even if the new jsr doesn't exceed some peoples expectations because of bomb rush cyberfunk hey at least jet set radio is back for real this time but hey I'm just saying.
I just really want this new JSR to succeed like i am hesitant on the changes it made and I love what BRC is and its community. But i do want this new game to prove me wrong of my doubts and be great and if not i still got BRC at the end of the day.
That's an interesting question, as for me, the fact there are now a few games coming out with the Jetset style to it that are really great, make me both less concerned about whether JetSet3 will be any good, but also more confident that it will still probably be an alright game. The other game besides Bomb Rush that has Jet Set style in this case being 'Parcel Corps'. It's technically not out yet, but it has a demo that's already imo just as good as what a demo for Bomb Rush would be. So hopefully once that comes out soon (had an initial release date for this month, which got pushed back, hoping its still a 2024 release tho).
I think if Team Reptile would do a sequel for BRC, then SEGA could end up getting a bit nervous on the prospect of BRC becoming a name that people used to associate Jet Set Radio with regarding nostalgia and the comeback of the skating punk style games. The new Jet Set Radio better do something more innovative or else Team Reptile will take care of that too.. What i´m afraid of here is that SEGA is eyeing Team Reptile for a potential acquisition.
Huge doubt on acquisition. I'm confident to even say it'll never happen. And TR did state that they won't be doing a sequel So really, all SEGA has to do to succeed is do thing just as good if not better than BRC and their prior games
As an aggressive skater that decided to fully be a Rollerblader because of how awesome and fun skating looked in Jet Grind Radio, when I saw the animations for the JSR revival reveal I was like “WTF are Sega smoking??” The animations look like absolute ASS from an aggressive inline skating standpoint, it screams “We are using fitness skaters as consultants on this game because we don’t respect real street rollerbladers enough to hire them to do our animations”.. I ABSOLUTELY can tell the Developer of BRC is actually an aggressive skater and has a new pair of rollerblades with grind marks in his frame grooves from trying tricks.
BRCF did their own thing and expanded a bit on the JSR concept. Sega cant just say "hey it plays like JSRF go wild" and when everyone over. Infact the games been dead since the early 2000s, there are a lot of people that dont even know what JSR is. I dont think it can easily just pop up abd dominate outside of some old heads. We don't get those type of skating games often anymore, so one of the main pillars of skating games making a grand return is actually a big deal, imo. Of course it just all comes down to SEGA making sure the new JSR is up to stuff for its big return
