I saw Gismonti in concert at the Montreal jazz festival a few years ago. The first part of the show was by a local pianist who is also teacher at university. It was cerebral and technical. When Gismonti started playing the piano, it took only 30 seconds, it was like if a beam of light was illuminating the place, his music touched my heart instantly, suddently, music had a soul. I will remember this forever. Music doesn’t need to be complicated, it needs heart and soul.
I fully understand what you are saying and I have no difficulty believing it. Just a question, a curiosity (but a very important point to me ): are you a musician?

A great composition and arrangement of Egberto Gismonti, a Brazilian composer of jazz, brazilian, film and classical music. Without doubt he's one of the great contemporary composers. It must have been about 1990 when "Lôro" catched my attention by hearing the version of John McLaughlin on his album "Music Spoken Here". There is also a vocal version of Delia Fischer titled "Cor de sol". Lôro is really a MASTERPIECE!
A cada versão que ouço de todas as músicas do Egberto consigo entender como a mente dele funciona; ele acha sempre um caminho novo e i esperado para cada trecho dela, vai me surpreendendo a cada instante. E outra coisa que também já percebi na criação dele, é que, um "simples" pedaço de uma música dele, passa a ser uma nova música, ele tem o poder de extrair de um trecho, uma criação totalmente diferente do que ele estava tocando na música mãe que gerou essa nova criação. Parece que cada música dele gera filhos de si mesmas. Nunca vi outro artista fazer isso. Esse Egberto é mesmo um Gênio Jina!!! Brasil e seus extremos! O país onde muitos fazem "música" ... com "letras" ... do tipo "senta senta senta ..." e um EGBERTO GISMONTI cria tanta coisa espetacular? O lixo e o luxo saídos de um mesmo país. Pena que o Egberto não influencie esses pseudos músicos e eles continuem produzindo tanto lixo e agressão para os ouvidos e para a alma.
