    Thank you for the message back ! I liked the story on the 60 grill. I own a 59 F- 100 short box . I installed a rebuilt 351 Windsor stroked to 393 with AOD transmission. I enjoy the truck alot. Mine came from the factory with a large bearing 9 inch rear end and heavy leaf Springs. It will smoke the tires in 3 gears. 😎

      Thanks for your comment! I was always a fan of the art-deco era and colors like the Indian Turquoise Ford used on the late 50's and 60's vehicles. The color on the truck is a hint of a shade off the actual Indian Turquoise. Because I wanted to match the interior upholstery to the paint, we found the closest seat fabric and matched tweaked the paint ever so slightly to match. We used bright white and when we hit it with the clear coat, the colors popped huge! Yes, it was a very nice color combination.
      I'd love to find it. If anyone knows where it is, let me know

      Hey thanks Jim Olson! Good eye - you caught the grille inconsistency. Like they say, “it’s not the money, time or experience. It’s all about the story!”
      Story goes ... it had a chrome 58 grille that was stained - likely from a severe radiator eruption. Watching Craigslist, i went to check out what was listed as a 58 chrome grille only to discover it was a 60. The guy felt so bad I had driven couple of hours he offered the complete grille for $80. On the truck it looked awesome - kind of sinister. But I found a beautifully perfect restored chrome at the tri state swap meet in Denver and worked a trade for his. My 60 and stained 58 for his 58. So the final product had a true 58 chrome grille.
      I’ll update the video someday.

    Very nice thats just how i would have done it perfect right colors and everything the wheel might be to modern, so many people ruin the bed so they can slam it to the ground, not a very good look for a truck. Your truck can stll be used as a truck gently od course. Very nice job ! when are you going to do another one? I love the period correct interior.

    My wife has a 58’ F100. Inline 6. I would like to have a rebuild done. Any idea what kind of money I’ll be spending? 30k? More. I want a new engine,paint, upholstery etc. Been in the barn for 30+ years!

      Thanks for the response. Body does need some work but overall is in good condition. I figure a crate motor to replace what is there and convert to automatic transmission. But doing the work I can is definitely the answer. Thanks again!

      I've looked at the vic swaps on the front end, but welding in spacers on the frame doesnt seem like the most sturdy thing to do on your front end. Have you ever seen someone do the swap and see how well it holds up? I'm from a part of colorado where no one really restores or builds cars.

    Nice grille! Looks like a 1960 grille with parts removed... where did you get it/what did you do to it?

    • @greatamericanrodscustoms
      @greatamericanrodscustoms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you're correct - I had a 1960 grille on it for a while. It came with a factory original 1958 chrome grille, but it was badly stained. By chance, I found the 1960s grille in a small eastern Colorado town.The guy who had it thought it was a 1958. I bought it for $80 in perfect shape, though the lower grid was trashed.This past Feb at the tri-state swap (Denver), I found the chrome 1958 grille that's on it today, trading both the original and 1960 for it.

    I love thw truck whats are the wheels and tires size?

    • @greatamericanrodscustoms
      @greatamericanrodscustoms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      FRONT: Ridler 695, 20 x 8.5" wheels with Nexxan, 245/40 R20 tires
      REAR: Ridler 695, 20 X 10" wheels with Nexxan, 265/45 R20 tires
      Before I sold the truck, I was seriously looking at going back to the 15 x 7+" steelies painted white to match and chrome moons, and with higher sidewall tires. The low-profile might look good, but rides like crap.

    how much was invested to get it looking like that ? , im thinking about buying one just like yours.

    • @greatamericanrodscustoms
      @greatamericanrodscustoms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Luis! I purchased the truck in April 2011 and by May, it was completely disassembled. We completed the build in Apr 2014. I spent around $29,000, non-recoverable (so, not including new tools, shop expenses, my labor, etc). That figure covers all new parts, refurbished and replaced parts, body work, paint, interior, engine, along with any outsourced labor. It was sold on consignment from Gateway Classics Denver in Apr 2015 for $35,000. After sales costs, commissions, etc. I received $33,000.
      Spring 2020, it was sold to someone here in the Denver area who made some minor modifications, then sold it again through Gateway for somewhere around $38,000. I'm not sure where it is now, thus I'm curious where you found the one that looks like mine? I only know of one other (1959) with this same paint scheme in Wichita Kansas. They share a common look, but the other one has an LS engine v the 302 Ford in my 1958. I've also seen a very nice 1959 4x4 conversion on the internet.

      @tpalizzi thanks I knew someone had made them, I remember seeing them in my classic trucks magazine. And yes it probably was that long ago, now that I think about it. I will also do some looking. Thanks for the information really appreciate it.
      P.S. I really liked the wood floor in the box. I am planning on doing something similar with mine.

    • @ericpetz5831
      @ericpetz5831 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @tpalizzi yes NEW ENGLAND SPEED & Custom is still in business. And yes they are still making them, they're 99 dollars apiece.

    • @greatamericanrodscustoms
      @greatamericanrodscustoms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ericpetz5831 The wood bed was actually easier than I thought. The existing metal bed had more waves than the Atlantic ocean. I literally took a cutting blade on a handheld grinder and cut it out, careful to leave the cross metal. I left the corner metal in on either side of the wheel wells. We trimmed to fit a piece of exterior grade plywood, rolled on some protecting bed liner on the down-side, then put down the planks. I'll see if I can't find some of the details on the wood, router blade used to prepare the seams, stain and Helmsman polyurethane (8 coats).
