I use a 1 metre test meter lead as antenna on Trio R1000 and Yaesu FT817 to receive FT8. Apple iPhone app ft8d decodes the data with phone placed next radios.

There's so many nice apps out there. My main reason to use radios is to run away from computers and modern tech :)
